Grandma, 1915-2014

My grandmother passed away today.  She was 98 years old. We were quite close and I'm so sorry to see her go.  She's left me with a ton of memories, but here's what I'll remember most. Her Sense of Humour My grandma was wicked funny.  For as long as I

The Baby Turns 6

Six years ago today, the baby of the family was born. She's certainly no baby today.  She's far more mature and organized than me already, full of interesting insight and impressive observations. They really do grow up too quickly.  Here's my Michelle at about six months of age. And here

I have a question for the ladies out there, and those who have daughters.  When did you get yours or your daughter's ears pierced? I know lots of people who get their daughter's ears pierced when they're mere months old.  My daughter turns six next week, and she decided she

End of an Era: I'm Beaverless

I just got back from taking my daughter to her last Beavers meeting of the year.  It's actually her last Beavers meeting ever.  After being a trail blazer for a year, my daughter has decided there are just too many boys in Beavers and she'd rather join Sparks next year.

Fresh Meat and Chocolate Jesus

The oldest kids in the family are about to turn six, so we were in need of fresh meat.  Little Nate recently arrived to give family gatherings a little extra oomph, and yesterday we all chilled with the little man at my mom's place. He's like a shiny new toy

Happy St. Patrick's Day, Grandma

I was always very close to my grandmother.  I remember a pre-teen version of myself timidly approaching the elderly woman behind the counter of the Irish Store and asking if she had a print of the Doors of Dublin.  My younger brother Ryan was there too and our plan was

Michelle's Girls

A year and a half ago, I posted Michelle's Fields of dolls.  She's changed things up, and now has a row of her girls she tucks in each night. Here she is, taking care of her girls. And here they are, all tucked in and ready for bed.

One Championship Down, One To Go...

I awoke this morning with an eerily calm feeling.  When I woke up James, I told him about my feeling.  I just felt good about the day ahead... as if good things were going to happen. James was playing for the Swansea Hockey Association Novice Division Championship of the world.
