What to say about David Marsden... firstly, he was Dave Mickie on CKEY. Then, after a spell in Montreal, he returned to Toronto as David Marsden on CHUM-FM. You'd never know David Marsden was Dave Mickie as their styles were polar opposites.

I had all the time in the world for David Marsden. I loved his energy, his stories, and his philosophy when it came to radio. He first visited me 11 years ago for a lengthy deep dive into his career. That was episode 106 and you can hear it here.

I was lucky enough to be in attendance last night as The Tragically Hip, Feist, Paul Dean and Mike Reno from Loverboy and Roch Voisine were inducted tinto the 2026 Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame.

It was a truly wonderful night with great performances, moving speeches, and stars galore. I saw performances by City and Colour, Finneas, Our Lady Peace, Wilco's Jeff Tweedy, Allison Russell, Amanda Marshall, Charlotte Cornfield, and Roch Voisine himself.

Paul Dean apologized on behalf of Mike Reno, who wasn't at the ceremony. But I found it curious that no member of The Tragically Hip referenced the fact drummer Johnny Fay wasn't there.

It was interesting seeing the West End Phoenix event at the Palais Royale on Friday night, and this event at Massey Hall Saturday night. The WEP event had more of a cool, indie vibe, and the Massey Hall event felt bigger and more corporate. Also interesting to me was the fact Friday night's event was hosted by Ron MacLean and Saturday night's event was hosted by George Stroumboulopoulos. Strombo replaced Ron as Hockey Night in Canada host, before he was replaced by Ron. What a small world.

By the way, I chatted up two musicians at both events, and they're two of my all-time favourite FOTMs: Tom Wilson and Tara Slone.

Last night, at the Palais Royale during the 10th anniversary celebration for the West End Phoenix, Tara Slone covered High School Confidential by Rough Trade. This song features the legendary line from Carole Pope about creaming her jeans. Scandalous!

Just before "It makes me cream my jeans when she comes my way" Carole sings "What's her perfume? Tigress by Fabergé".

As discussed recently with Dave LeBlanc, the Fabergé Perfumes Building was located at 30 Queen Elizabeth Blvd. The building opened in 1950 and won architectural awards. Here's how it looked.

If that building looks family, it's because today's it's the location of Great Lakes Brewery.

And that's how Carole Pope connects with Great Lakes Brewery. Here's Tara Slone singing that line in that iconic song.

At the end of today's Day 6 on CBC Radio, Brent Bambury announced he's chosen to retire from CBC after over 47 years.

Many remember Brent best from his years hosting Brave New Waves, Midday or Go. I once had Brent visit with Ralph Benmergui because people often confused the two because of their similar CBC Radio journeys.
