I've got to know prolific film producer Avi Federgreen pretty well in 2025, working with him on his excellent UNLEASHED: A Producer's Guide to Indie Film podcast. In passing, he mentioned he has finally made his directorial debut, directing a film called Home Free. When I learned it was playing at Canadian Film Fest, I had to buy a ticket and bike to Scotiabank Theatre to check it out.

Home Free blew me away. Seriously. What a beautiful story and tremendous cast. Art Hindle, Jill Frappier, Michelle Nolden, Tara Spencer-Nairn, and Natalie Brown are all excellent.
As good as Home Free is, and it's very good, I think the story of how it was made might be just as good, and I can't wait to get Avi Federgreen on Toronto Mike'd to talk about it.
This is Avi's magnus opus.
