New Personalities Wanted at CFRB

radioI don't listen to CFRB 1010. I recently visited CFRB and sat in on Jim Richards' show, a guy I actually find to be quite funny, but I can't say I ever listen to the Astral station.

Today, Astral let go 12 people at CFRB. Among those let go are on air personalities, including Paul and Carol Mott, Michael Coren and Jacqui Delaney, news staffers, including newscaster Kris McCusker, and producers.

Paul and Carol Mott, a husband and wife radio team known as The Motts, are the only personalities on that list I had ever listened to. Many years ago I used to listen to them on CFRB. It seems like they've been there forever.

CFRB is in the market for new personalities. Know any willing to work in radio?

Astral Radio did the same earlier this month at CJAD in Montreal.

Maybe a Humble and Fred Reunion?

Burlington Andy

How many times has Coren been fired from CFRB? Three, Four?

I find the man intelligent and he has a wicked sense of humour. Didn't he have a morning show on 640 years ago?

As for the Motts, about time.

Don't listen to 'rb either, anymore. Bill C is a self absorbed A-hole, and I can't take John Moore with his 'holier than thou' attitude. Jimmie R. is good, he needs to move over to 640.

Wow. I am pretty surprised they let Coren go. I disagree with a lot of his views, but he hosted an intelligent show.

I don't care for the Motts.

I heard John Tory hosting for the John Moore show and man, he made a poor politician and he makes a worse radio show host. Why can't this guy pick a career he is good at?

August 28, 2009 @ 8:26 AM

Its too bad they got rid of Coren - John Moore should have been let go.

He's the most annoying, arrogant liberal on the radio today. I just wish he would come clean with his listeners and admit he's................ how do I say this..... on the wrong team.

August 28, 2009 @ 8:59 AM

I don't get the Coren firing at all. He was really good.....John Moore should have been let go. OMG...I sound like Argie!

Just because you disagree with someone's politics doesn't mean they should be fired. If we only listen to one side then how can we actually form a proper opinion?

And your homophobia is getting old. Who gives a crap anyway?

August 28, 2009 @ 9:27 AM

Andrew (needs a more distinct name)

Opps, I spelled Argie wrong.

August 28, 2009 @ 9:27 AM

I think the MOtts are a great on air match. Other ding dongs cannot hold a honest conversation and actually bring up topics that hit home. So I am gunna start a pitition to bring them back.

August 28, 2009 @ 9:40 AM

Hey Andrew,

I don't have a problem with his politics - he's a libertarian, albeit a lefty libertarian but I do agree with him on some issues.

Its his arrogance and open hatred to anything conservative that annoys me. I love how he pouts down talk radio and the people who call in while collecting a check from a talk radio station!!! If you don't go along with him on the whole global warming con-job you're an uneducated idiot.

But Andrew, why do you and some of the others are so quick to play the famous 'homophobia' card? Its as tired and lame as the race card. I just can't stand him and the fact he may be a puffster, makes its all kind of funny.

August 28, 2009 @ 9:40 AM

Andrew and Argie show?

Uh gee Argie...sound's like you're a "puffster" too, therefore your posts are even funnier. Seriously...what does this have anything to do with John. You might not like him, but you listen. THAT'S what good radio does. They couldn't give a crap whether you agree with him or not. If everyone agreed with the host, he wouldn't have a job as the show would be boring as hell. I think John's one of the best hosts on the air today...because he puts up SOLID arguments. I don't always agree with him, but he backs up his arguments with FACTS that are researchable. Coren, doesn't.

August 28, 2009 @ 12:22 PM

Andrew (needs a more distinct name)

You brought up his alleged sexuality which is irrelevant to the conversation.

I think he is a pompous ass with all his references to Scotch and very elite things.

He doesn't hate all things conservative though. He was a big defender of Mulroney during the whole attack job the CBC did on him with the inquest. He is also no fan of Dalton McGuinty and I am sure would support his fall.

August 28, 2009 @ 2:09 PM

ndrew - Mulroney was a conservative in name only. He was also a crook to boot.

I also dont care what Moore is is. From the personal info he's given his listeners, I know he's not someone I would want to know.

August 28, 2009 @ 3:06 PM

No loss in the firing of Michael Coren - seems he's totally out of touch with reality.

August 28, 2009 @ 4:50 PM

hey if anyone is interested and want to say hi to Paul and Carol mott i found this posting of their email address they say they would like to hear from their fans... its

August 28, 2009 @ 10:45 PM

Toronto Mike

It's unlikely an @cfrb address will still work if you're trying to contact Paul and Carol Mott.

They have a twitter account at but I don't know if it's theirs or Astral's.

August 28, 2009 @ 10:49 PM

The motts have always been tiring to listen to.

The bald guys were actually quite interesting to listen to, but when Tarek Fatah replaced Stephen it became very silly. I'm surprised they fired Michael and kept Tarek, Tarek should have been let go.

John Moore I find quite funny, his opionions are always very well thought out and defended, and his politics usually don't follow party lines, he has some Conservative and Liberal values.

If John Moore was fired, CFRB would lose me as a regular listener. He's one of the best personalities on the station.

September 1, 2009 @ 1:33 PM

If they are on the firing kick they should have started with that jackass Ryan Doyle

September 2, 2009 @ 11:40 PM

Well I just called CFRB and I asked what happened to Paul and Carol Mott. You know the STUPID answer I got was to listen to CFRB at 7:08am and they will tell you everything. WTF...I told them I already Googled it and know that they were fired. Now you know it's pretty bad at CFRB when they won't tell you. Can't they at least be honest with people. IDOTS!!!! They just lost alot of listeners. They also told me that they have good talk show hosts working there. I said like who? They told me Jim Richards. I just laughed....I told them I am the same age as Jim and I would make a better talk show host than him. They told me to listen at 7:08am....I said I would only if they are going to tell me that Paul and Carol Mott are coming back. They told me no that would never happen. They also told me what we read on the internet and hear in the media are rumors. BS....I told them too bad everyone has to find out somewhere else other than the radio station. That really says alot for CFRB. Was a long time listener...too bad not anymore!!!!

September 23, 2009 @ 3:45 AM

I loved listening to the Motts. I think this was a mistake to let them go.

The letting go of Micheal Coren the most painfully honest talk show host out there and keeping Ryan Dole who sounds just like a screaming teenager is just beyond me and I'm sure will reflect in your ratings.

September 26, 2009 @ 10:01 PM

I won't miss the Motts..but I'm devastated about John Moore leaving the 4pm time slot. I won't listen to Tory.

October 2, 2009 @ 12:29 PM

I'm with you Wayne about Ryan Doyle..he's so immature and sulky and I saw him on TV and he looks just the way he sounds !!!! LOL

I am going absolutely stir crazy without the Motts. Please, someone hire them soon!! I can't take it anymore. I always enjoyed their thought-provoking discussions when seriousness was called for and their banter back and forth when being light was appropriate.

I have been a loyal CFRB fan since 1994 when I was a student in residence and listened to almost all the shows all summer. Have seen many changes since then and am saddened to see that they let the Motts go - between them and the original bald guys, the banter and back and forth made for good listening, as it presented both sides of an argument. I agree that John Moore tends to be condescending towards anyone who doesn't agree with his liberal views. And yes, Ryan Doyle is annoying. Jim Richards grew on me. Michael Coren, they should have kept. Not sure what to think of John Tory just yet...and overall I have mixed feelings about these changes.

October 14, 2009 @ 10:51 PM

Look people, hosts are purposely provocative and are trying to get you 'going'.
I'm just saying they need people to disagree and make a debate.
If they always took the easy or popular position there would be no show. So if you don't like their stated position, well, they're probably doing what they are paid to do, getting you involved.

October 16, 2009 @ 11:06 AM

With out the Motts I've closed out 1010 on my station saver.

November 9, 2009 @ 10:57 AM

Dont understand the hate on for John Moore. He's quick, funny and informative - Motts on the otherhand suck. 20yrs too late to see them go.

About time they got rid of Paul and Carol Mott--I couldn't stand his constant berating and condescending attitude and her allowing the arguing to continue. Same with Michael Coren and Bill Carroll. All of them sound like someone pissed in their cornflakes. The only worthwhile people on CFRB are John Moore (incredible and intellectual wit--SO GLAD he's the new morning guy), Jim Richards (funny and more funny), and Ryan Doyle (realist). Thanks for bumping out the duds.

January 3, 2010 @ 4:03 PM

I really miss John Moore at 4:00 p.m. - I looked forward to his intelligent informative style as well as his strong views - a great host! He is now on too early for me to be able to listen to him.
Bill Carroll is simply too angry.
John Tory is too nice, wishy-washy and boring.
Jim Richards is interesting and funny and is the only host that I now enjoy listening to in the afternoon.
I enjoyed the Motts - it was a change from listening to angry male hosts.
Now, I only listen to Jim Richards and then I change the station.

January 14, 2010 @ 1:28 PM

The Motts were cool.
Bill is a really good host weather you agree with him or not he can talk!
Jim i like but cant listen he sounds stoned and has ADD.
Ryan need to get runned over.
Coren??? michael Coren.. hates anyone one who doesnt believe jesus was resurrected and cant stand gays!!! i think ARGIE should blow michael!!!

February 23, 2010 @ 11:29 PM

ill tell you why Michael Coren got fired..
and i guote!...

"i find homosexuality laughable"

"gays can get married yet you cant smoke in a car with a child"

"polygamy makes more sense then gay marriage"

lol does he not realize how many respectful gay men and women may work above him at astral media? does he not realize we live in Canada and it was 2009?? Yet believing that Moses split the sea NOW THATS A FACT??what a loser. i was not surprised he was fired a shame though he was a clever fella at times!

The bast way to make show how stupid the gay life is is to show people pictures of AIDS patients but also to pray them political correct socially engineering is very evil .AIDS cant be made glamourous -there is no such thing as safe sex remember this

July 14, 2010 @ 6:10 PM

I have a blog of yours commenting aboutc cfrb. Do you still do that? I listen to that station alot. If you do, could you send it to me? My dad and I found it very interesting.

Ryan Doyle does NOT LIVE in the real world. He actually is damaging society by continually defending the idea that money doesn't actually have any meaning and everyone should have an easy time to live. NEVER does he criticize the government, in their role in making oiur lives expensive, because it would blow out the foundation of his clearly leftist ideology. Leftist in the DUMB way too; not the wise, idealistic way but the propagandist jump through hoops to get attention way. When i hear his voice I want to vomit. Grow a pair you fucking dumbass. If you were running the province there would be only Government and nothing else because businesses would not be able to afford all the things you'd want them to pay for. One by oine they would close, and guess who loses if business close?
