Too Much Of Anything Makes You An Addict

Star Wars

James is absolutely obsessed with all things Star Wars.  As I type this, he's watching Episode IV for the billionth time this month.  He's full of questions, and all are about Star Wars characters and their galaxy.  He's always handing me my light saber and challenging me to a battle.  It's dominating his little mind these days.

For a period of time in the late 70s and early 80s there wasn't a birthday party I attended that didn't have a Star Wars theme.  Usually, a VCR was rented so we could watch our favourite movie.  I had Star Wars posters in my room, Star Wars figurines and the coolest model of the Millenium Falcon.  Still, I don't think I lived and breathed this particular world of fantasy until I had a four year old boy.

It's freaky how well he knows the story.  He's memorized the dialogue from episodes 4, 5 and 6 and he'll call me on it if I quote a scene incorrectly.  I just asked him if he's obsessed with Star Wars and he said "no".  He's obsessed with Star Wars, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi.

The tape has been rewound and I can hear John Williams' score booming the background.  It's time to go back a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away with my son and there ain't nothing wrong with that.
