I'm always impressed when my wife just whips up a dress or something. I struggle to sew on a button.

She's 25 weeks pregnant, and made a great dress for a holiday party we attended. Here's her handywork.

If you're curious how she did it, she documented it here: http://www.torontomommy.com/holiday-maternity-dress/

Happy Holidays. My Habs lost again. Now they can't seem to win a game. My Coyotes lost again. Not good. I got my tooth fixed. My tooth broke Wednesday night. Anyway, he patched it up yesterday. The crack in the tooth was way down to the roots so he said I could lose the tooth. That would suck if that happened. A crown is not possible because the crack was too far down to the roots. Fortunately it's at the back so if I did lose the tooth, it wouldn't show like if it was a front tooth, it would show. Anyway, my trainer lost on Tuesday pretty big. Oh well, they will win zones. My trainer will go to the Provincials and Brier. It will happen. Howard or Jacobs won't be there. Kean and my trainer will both be in provincials and then my trainer beats Kean in the final to go to the Brier.

Hi Mike...all the best for the holidays to you and yours.

What are your predictions for the Toronto sports radio market in 2016?

It just feels like major change is near for both the Fan and TSN Radio; some of it unprecedented.

December 18, 2015 @ 9:28 AM

Toronto Mike Verified as the defacto Toronto Mike

@Neal

Same to you!

My prediction for 2016 is that little will change.

Bell Media will keep TSN Radio propped up, regardless of how many are actually listening.

Rogers will keep the status quo at The Fan 590. They're committed to Blundell, and won't give up on him that easily. Despite the "Bob is bored" talk, PTS will continue to sail as is.

The status quo will rule in 2016.

We can all point to this comment and laugh when I'm proven completely wrong by February 2016. :)

The Adele "Hello" song has burned out and the other tracks sound all the same. She ain't no Amy. . .

December 18, 2015 @ 9:33 AM

Toronto Mike Verified as the defacto Toronto Mike

My thoughts on Adele.

Lovely voice... it's truly great. This is why you can't help but appreciate a song like Someone Like You or Rolling in the Deep.

Initially, I didn't really like Hello, but after hearing it a few dozen times, I thought "she's got a great voice". So I didn't mind hearing it another few hundred times.

I have never actively sought an Adele song. It's just not my cup of tea, but she seems personable and humble and has a stellar voice, so I have nothing bad to say about her.

Correction re: Adele

I see all across the news that the Pope has declared mother theresa's second miracle, bringing her that much closer to sainthood.

Embarrassing.

December 18, 2015 @ 10:12 AM

@Ryan G

This sainthood racket is essentially the Catholic Hall of Fame. Will Mother T be inducted? Ramp up the PR machine!

At least the sports hall of fames are based on actually happenings. I mean, Ken Griffey Jr. actually did record 630 homers. This is a fact.

December 18, 2015 @ 10:19 AM

Yes! Sainthood is like a league's hall of fame! It's the Catholic Hall of Fame!

@Mike
So all of the wonderful things Mother Teresa did throughout her life didn't really "happen"? You know, her service to the poor, the marginalized, the discarded in India and other third work countries.

You don't have to believe in God, saints or miracles but there's no denying the good she brought to the world. No one else in our lifetime is even close. No one!

December 18, 2015 @ 10:45 AM

Ryan G / hobogauntlet.blogspot.ca

If the pope reached out to me and said listen..all this stuff's real, i''d just ask him to prove it and i'll convert on the spot. But I want some good 'ol fashioned fireworks..maybe he could throw some shit around with his mind or let me sit in on an exorcism with some bona fide Linda Blair kinda goods.

I dated a girl in high school who told me she was psychic. I told her i really wanted to believe but i'd like her to demonstrate her abilities. She could not so I stepped up to the plate for shits' n giggles. In her apartment she had a crucifix on her wall. One day i turned it upside down when she wasn't in the room and then just waited for the big moment.

It was glorious.

I'm saying the miracles didn't happen. We both know that...

December 18, 2015 @ 10:46 AM

@Mike
Fair enough.

Re: Adele
I kind of agree, no doubt she's got a great voice and I could have her music on in the background but there's no way I could sit through a 2 hour concert of her belting out the tunes.

December 18, 2015 @ 11:02 AM

When in doubt, always use the Scientific Method. Mother Teresa is just as controversial as many other "saints", look up the wiki for details.

How does one stay away from hearing about the SW plot before seeing it? Staying away from the internet entirely, not reading the news, is not an option.

December 18, 2015 @ 11:53 AM

Mother Teresa was by all accounts imperfect but not titanically nightmarish. Unlike some of the rapist, murdering motherfuckers they want to canonize.

Some miracles do happen. Just ask Al Michaels & the 1980 USA Olympic Hockey team.

Merry Christmas to all.

December 18, 2015 @ 5:24 PM

Every time I hear Ken Reid on PTS, I believe in miracles. After Bob asked the big-boy questions to the Carolina Panthers play by play guy, Reid's main points were how much he liked the guy's name and accent.

My Suns won last night, but my Nets lost. Habs are well overdue for a win. Hopefully tonight. Now they can't seem to win a game. Oh well. Not sure what zone Kean is in. I thought they were in zone 6, as they usually have been, but they're not there. My trainer is in zone 7. My trainer will win for sure. My trainer is going to the brier so means one week in February without my trainer and one week or more in March when he is at the Brier. That's just the way it's going to be. Howard doesn't have it anymore and that's a good thing.

So my Galaxy S4 went tits and is in the repair shop.

I had everything backed up except for my whatsapp chats with my niece. Grrr. The info is not on my sd card so I am hoping there was an auto backup on the internal memory -- IF the old phone comes back to me. My warranty covers one replacement if needed.

I hoping it's just a short, as it was either not turning on, turning on with the Samsung logo then dying, or powering up for a few minutes then dying. Same issue with two batteries and the problems started without warning.

Dined at the Cosmo Wildfire in September.
I ordered a New York strip, medium. When I cut into it, no pink anywhere.
Friends ordered the salmon and raved about it.
Their pricing/portion ratio was ok. Service was ok, nothing special and I though a bit on the slow side for not being busy.
I'd go back but it wouldn't be my choice to go, so for me it would be, "been there, done that, lets go somewhere else".

I had lunch there yesterday. I had ribs and fries and some chocolate dessert thing. It was all pretty good, except the size of the dessert was miniscule. I didn't even look at the prices because it was all being expensed.

McGuinty's former Chief and Deputy Chief of staff have been charged with breach of trust,
mischief in relation to data, and misuse of a computer system to commit the offense of mischief.

As far as I'm concerned, those charges are meaningless unless the Crown can establish a direct link to McGuinty, and they all end up in jail.

Awfully smug of Wynne to claim vindication since she wasn't charged.
Same to be said for McGuinty since his lawyer is making similar statements.

The two staffers charged are pawns, simply taking the fall on behalf of the party.
They get a slap on the wrist, a fine, and then the party will take care of them.

Nothing honourable about politicians or politics, all levels, all parties.

Holy Smokes!

Monica's outfit is beautiful - and, she made it. Wow. I love it.

I noticed a great family photo on your Twitter feed - taken by (and for?) the Toronto Star?

I have yet to figure out how this Patron thing works. I want to support you - of course.

Working on three big deadlines for Monday - I can barely see straight.

Tomorrow I will start and finish a 2,000 word essay about community work. Fingers crossed I recall MLA style like it's my day job.

I've been popping in - and out - but mostly out over the past while. Where did things sort out in the discussion around the frequency of Open Mike's?

December 19, 2015 @ 7:56 PM

Toronto Mike Verified as the defacto Toronto Mike

@Liz

Yes, a Toronto Star photojournalist was over on Thursday to snap the family. Nothing to do with this project but something entirely different for the paper on New Year's Day.

I'll keep these Open Mikes going every Friday. If they start to only get 10 or so comments, I'll consider making them less frequent or ending them completely. But for now, every Friday.

Good luck with the essay!

So other than size, what's the difference between the IPhone 6 and IPhone 6+? My mom just got the 6S+, and that thing is fucking huge! How the hell are you supposed to put it in your pocket?

Well, my Habs lost again. What's wrong with them? It's not good, that's for sure. My Coyotes won though. Anyway, I finally found out what zone Kean is in. They are in zone 12. They lost two games so they are done. My trainer lost a game really bad and won one really big so anything could happen. No, not anything. They will win today and go to regionals and provincials and the Brier. Hopefully my Ravens win today, but so many injuries. They're a mess. Hopefully my Cardinals will win.

December 20, 2015 @ 11:15 AM

Christmas gifts for co-workers & those that depend on you for making commission.
That's my job, pricing jobs for salespeople for their salaries.
1 of the top salespeople at our company who I work extra hrs., cut costing so he can "make a buck". His salary is more than 2 1/2 times mine.

I was left a card on my chair Friday during lunch when I was out & opened it when I got back.
This is a person who I have worked with for over 10 years & for the last 3-4 years have bought his 2 young kids Xmas gifts. Last year nothing - not even a card or "thanks for all your work".

The card said "it was my most successful year thanks to you (me) & appreciate all your hard work - Happy Holidays" - a $10.00 gift card from Timmies. I know, don't look a gift horse in the mouth, but WHY BOTHER. I would have rather him donate $ to a charity of his choice like other do.

Was I wrong writing this??

@twins from bolton

I'm sure there's more to the story, but if I got a card from a colleague that says they appreciated my hard work with a $10 Tim Hortons gift card, I'd get a coffee and some donuts for the kids and wouldn't have a negative thought about it.

I don't give colleagues Christmas gifts, or even cards for that matter. So a $10 card sounds "above and beyond" to me.

December 20, 2015 @ 8:20 PM

@twins from bolton

Don't let it get you down. But I agree with you -- just give the money to charity.

I've been in jobs where I wasn't appreciated until I was gone so I do understand. YOU know your own work ethic and YOU know your value as a person. A bit of recognition would be a nice bit of icing, but YOU know.

Merry Christmas, my friend.

December 20, 2015 @ 8:22 PM

Cheryl

Well, my trainer lost the B semifinal. Means that they didn't make it either. I was hoping my trainer and Kean would be in Provincials, but they won't. My Cardinals won yesterday, but my Ravens lost again. my Nets and Suns both lost. Hopefully my Habs will break out of their slump and win tonight. They need to do that. As for Christmas gifts, I work at home self employed. I don't have to worry about buying gifts for co-workers. I remember having to draw names out of a hat when I went out to work. I hated it because I ended up getting crap I didn't need and I had a hard time knowing what to buy. This is why I don't like Christmas. Well, December 26, it's all over. Can't wait until December 26 comes along.

December 21, 2015 @ 9:49 AM

@ Blind Dave

Thanks for your comment.
I'm not down about it just surprised. Why bother.

Actually today another salesperson gave all of us cards for XMAS & inside was to donate on a website on behalf of him to charity of our choice, with 4 charities listed. It was legit as many got tax receipts emailed right away with the charity & his name as as donor.

I'd rather see this than a gift card or a box of 2 year old chocolates.

Habs lost again. I don't know what's wrong with them. They are losing lots. When will they win again and the Leafs are winning. My Nets won though for a change. My Suns lost though. Anyway, December 26 will be here in four days. Good.

December 22, 2015 @ 9:57 AM

Cheryl

What a morning. I heard beeping. I didn't know what it was so called security. The security guard didn't know what it was. Then he left. I realized there was water dripping. Well, the maintenance guy came. The water was in the smoke detector making it go off so I had to get a new smoke detector. Anyway, no other damage, but the leak was coming from a toilet in the apartment above me. Anyway, it really sucked for sure. My Habs lost. Oh well, they have to turn it around. My Coyotes won though so that's good.

December 23, 2015 @ 11:32 AM

Cheryl

My Nets and Suns both lost last night. That is not a good thing. Anyway, apparently what happened yesterday morning was the toilet above me overflowed because someone got sick. That is not something I heard of. How can vomit clob a toilet. I want to know that. Anyway, less than two days and it will be December 26. No more Christmas and then hockey will be back. That's a good thing and my Habs will turn it around. They have to.

Mother Teresa Update

Excerpt from Eamonn McCann article in the Irish Times.com

What model of society does the Albanian nun exemplify? Twenty years ago, in January 1996, writing for Hot Press, I phoned the Los Angeles district attorney’s office to check whether there had been progress in persuading Mother Teresa to hand back a million dollars stolen from the poor. Not a lot, assistant district attorney Paul Turley told me.
Front for fraud
The money had been filched from the pockets of pensioners and small savers by the notorious conman, Charles Keating, head of what turned out to be a front for fraud, Lincoln Savings and Loan.

Keating had siphoned $225 million from the accounts of thousands of victims, and had bunged a million of this loot to Mother Teresa. (The closest Irish equivalents of US savings and loan associations are credit unions.)

Four years earlier, in 1992, Turley had appealed to Teresa: “If you contact me, I will put you in direct contact with the rightful owners of the property now in your possession.” Any developments since, I wondered?

“She has ignored us,” Turley told me. “We have honestly given up on this. It is obvious she is determined to keep it.”

Sentenced to 10 years, Keating may have taken comfort from contemplation of the crucifix on the wall of his cell personally blessed by Pope John Paul and delivered by a messenger from Mother Teresa.
