Do you think Robyn Doolittle is just a little bit grateful for Rob Ford and his antics?

February 7, 2014 @ 9:34 AM

Toronto Mike Verified as the defacto Toronto Mike

Robyn Doolittle, when she covered Ford's drunken appearance at the Garrison Ball, stumbled upon a career-changing story. At that time, she had no idea what Rob Ford was truly hiding, but that led to seeing the crack video which led to everything else... if you step back and look at Rob Ford and that entire family as a whole, it's stranger than fiction.

She got in on the ground floor of Crazy Town and worked it better than everyone else. Now I need to see her on the Daily Show... I fell asleep before it aired.

I've lost all respect for the Fords and I'm starting to lose respect for the Toronto Star and some of its reporters

Next Friday my band is playing at the South Shore Bar & Grill Etobicoke. Here are the details:

If you don't have any V-Day plans, come on out. I would love to meet some of the posters from here!

Argie

Doolittle is an ambulance chaser. She's nice looking so she'll probably wind up with a TV gig when all's said and done. It certainly won't be because of her brain matter.

February 7, 2014 @ 9:45 AM

Corey

The Taliban have captured a military service dog (claiming it's US, but it may actually be UK). I can't help but feel bad for the dog, partially because I know dogs aren't exactly loved in the Islam faith and likely isn't being treated with the best care, but also because it looks so damn scared, and would have no idea what's happening. It's interesting that I've become almost immune to the ongoing reports of violence against humans there, but this tugs at the heartstrings.

That argument loses all weight with me when you remember HE'S THE MAYOR OF TORONTO.

February 7, 2014 @ 9:57 AM

As I said before, pre Super Bowl.
The media has been falling all over themselves hyping and fear mongering the Sochi Olympics.
Terrorist threats, poor conditions, unfinished hotels, roads etc. etc. Blah blah blah.
The media is a joke.
The games will be a success in spite of the media.
Let the opening begin. GO CANADA GO!

February 7, 2014 @ 10:09 AM

McNulty

Argie,

How is Robyn stupid? Has her reporting been inaccurate? Has she said dumb things? Or is it that she is a good looking woman and therefore can’t possibly be intelligent too?

And yeah, she’s an ambulance chaser. She gets tipped off on the mayor of the largest city in Canada smoking crack and follows the story. What a hack! Most journalists would have never followed that story.

February 7, 2014 @ 10:11 AM

Argie

@McNulty
The only way I can judge her intelligence is to hear her speak. From various interviews she sounds like a grade 10 student (i.e. her vocab, her inflections and poor syntax).

Her constant fixation with Ford to the point of even reporting unsubstantiated stories are why I call her an ambulance chaser.

If she followed our Premier as much, I'm sure there would be some interesting stores to tell. But she won't because she works for the Star.

February 7, 2014 @ 10:22 AM

Argie

Oops, that's "stories" not stores.

February 7, 2014 @ 10:22 AM

McNulty

What stories have been unsubstantiated? Everything has come out true and if she was making things up the Fords would be suing her.

As for following around the Premier, if she was on Queens Park and not City Hall and she got a tip that Wynne smoked crack, you honestly think she would bury it? That’s some tin hat theory. You do know the Star broke the ORNG story, right?

@McNulty

At this point, I think we should just completely ignore the Ford defenders.

Two things are true regarding those who believe Ford is the victim of a media conspiracy:

1. They don't live in Toronto
2. They just want to watch the world burn

@Argie

When I watch Robyn Doolittle speak, I think the exact opposite. She comes across as a very poised, well-spoken, intelligent woman.

February 7, 2014 @ 10:35 AM

McNulty

@ Mike

You should try and get Robyn on your podcast. Have Argie as a guest interviewer and see if he has the balls to make the same allegations in person.

Just don't sell it as tell-all! (Too soon?)

February 7, 2014 @ 10:48 AM

Cheryl

How about those Habs. They won last night even though they were outshot. Carey Price is an amazing goalie. Team Canada will win because PK Subban and Carey Price are there. Unfortunately the Leafs won last night. That sucks. Oh well. Enough about Rob Ford. I don't like the guy, I never did. He won't change. He is just covering things up by saying he is getting help. Oh well, who cares about him.

I am just giving you a hard time. It's Friday and I've never seen such defense on a topic here before. You may need to call them Boon Nation!

February 7, 2014 @ 11:00 AM

Corey

Arrrghhh!!!! I was honestly hoping to steer clear of anything Ford this Open Mike, hence my dog story. But then Mike had to go and say Ford defenders don't live in Toronto. WTF? Unless your definition of Toronto is the downtown areas (in which case, you don't get to voice your opinion either, Mike), you're not paying attention. I assume making this statement will get me labelled as a part of Ford nation because that's what tends to happen here, but I'm a actually just a realist.

@ Argie - Dolittle was a guest on the Daily Show last night. If your right-wing sensibilities can stand watching Jon Stweart interview someone for 10 min, you should watch it.

She came off as very poised, well spoken, and she didn't rise to the bait when Stewart started making non-germane comments about Ford. She stuck to the issues and not the rumours or insinuations surrounding out "Mayor" (and yes, I am using Dr. Evil-esque finger quotes when referring to this guy as a Mayor)

You're issues arise, I'd imagine, form the fact that she isn't a right wing, middle class, heterosexual, man....

But please don't sink to the lowest denominator by calling her an airhead just because she's young and a woman. I'd rather have her representing what people in Toronto are like that the Ford Boys.

February 7, 2014 @ 11:30 AM

Philly-Bob

@ Corey - Unfortunately...I'm thinking that Dog is in for a very short, very painful remainder of it's life.

February 7, 2014 @ 11:32 AM

Argie

"And Putin is the worst of the worst."
Really? Worse than that chubby N Korea dude who looks like a lesbian? Or maybe worse than an al Qaeda leader?

FYI, in Iran they hang gay people. I don't believe that's the case in Russia.

February 7, 2014 @ 11:32 AM

Don't Shoot Me

Correction: Argie is the worst of the worst. Homophobic and misogynist.

February 7, 2014 @ 11:38 AM

Speysidephil

I have to agree with Argie here, Doolittle doesn't exactly come across as the brightest woman on the planet, but then again she is a journalist working for the Star. That doesn't exactly go in her favour.

February 7, 2014 @ 11:49 AM

Argie

"But please don't sink to the lowest denominator by calling her an airhead just because she's young and a woman"

Sorry Phil but that's a stupid assumption on your part. I gave my reasons (in detail above) as to why I believe she's an airhead. It has nothing to do with her being a female. For christsake, get a clue.

February 7, 2014 @ 11:54 AM

Argie

@Don't shoot me
The truth hurts doesn't it.

February 7, 2014 @ 11:56 AM

Rob

@Argie

I don't know much about her, therefore, I have no dog in this race.

That being said, you claim you judge her on how she speaks...if you applied the same logic to Ford you'd be off that train years ago. No logical person would claim Ford speaks more intelligent than a high school graduate nor claim he is an honest man.

Why did Ford get a pass from you for so long?

February 7, 2014 @ 12:09 PM

Argie

@Rob
That's a fair question. I've never been impressed with Ford's speaking abilities. His lack of will power is troubling and he's certainly not someone I would choose to hang around with.

However, I agree with most of his polices and when you look at the contenders (previous and current), he's the only logical choice. I also admire how he stands up to slimy public sector unions and over zealous activists. He gets bonus points for that!

Re: Robyn Doolittle

I don't know her, I've never met her, but I have seen her in several interviews and for the life of me I can't see why you'd think her speaking style makes her sound unintelligent. I don't care that she works for the Star, the Sun or the National Enquirer, she sounds great.

Here she is recently on Q:

Judge for yourself. If you're hating on her speaking style, you're being insanely picky.

I just watched Doolittle's appearance on the Daily Shoe (thecomedynetwork.ca). She was very good. Nice rapport, well spoken. A bit of a natural, I'd say. Argues right, she'll move to TV.

Why is the media trying to sabotage these Winter Oylmpics? The Cold War is over.

Obama & Harper can snub Russia but they would bend over if Israel came calling.

Its too bad we as a human specie could not travel on our own to all parts of the world & get a real life perspective as opposed to the video & message plastered in mainstream media.

McLean & Mansbridge were an embarassment to the opening ceremonies. It seems like they are being dictated to cover a certain negative agenda.

@ Il Duce: Is that the defence you are going to take in your second paragraph or are you being sarcastic. Nobody makes Ford open his mouth and spew out garbage. He does that all himself.

If he doesn't like the negative feedback when he says something stupid then he should probably have his lips stapled shut and eat through a straw.

It's a hard knock life when a consummate bully must then have his followers cry foul when others stand up to him.

@Argie: Yes Robyn Doolittle should be interviewed by Michael Coren. He's probably foaming at the mouth for an opportunity to try and bring in some ratings on his otherwise terrible show.

He would no doubt try to vilify her and make her look stupid because that's how small a man he is. At this point In Doolittle's career and after what she has reported why would she need to go through that? What she has reported and written really can't be refuted any longer. Not by the lying Mayor nor all the right wing cronies looking for more than 5 viewers over at Sun News.

Again, this isn't how it works. The mayor doesn't fly these flags. In fact, the mayor can't even make a request.

The request comes from a not-for-profit and is approved by the City Manager.

It looks like the Ontario LIberals will give $400 million to Chrysler to invest on a mini van plant in Windsor. I guess there's an election coming up.

I have one question for those who support this.

What happens when Chrysler or GM in the future ask the Ontario taxpayer to subsidize 50% of the wages and benefits of the workers to keep the job here? Do you give it to them?
It's not as far fetched as it may sound if we are basically giving them a 1/2 a billion to one car company. As a matter of fact it's coming sooner than you think.

Why fly the Rainbow flag just as an opposition to Russia's values.

This is probably the 1st time I've agreed with Ford. Take it down.

For the love of god, Ford doesn't even represent the official stance of the federal conservatives party as John Baird has spoken out against Russia anti-gay laws. IMO a great way to officially show a protest of it is flying the pride flag during Olympics. It's amazing that Ford Nation is taking the conservatives right back to a third-place party. This seems to be all a distraction on Fords' part, he normally does this foolishness when a big story is about to come out, he is either trying to take Doolittle out of the news-cycle or something coming out this weekend. His faux outrage about the Canadian flag being replaced (btw it wasn't) it just trying to distract.

@McNulty, As for Doolittle, I also find the negative reaction to her to be so odd. She did her job, she did her job correctly. That story was there for anybody to grab, and she the person who took the chance and risk and got rewarded for it. It seems to me that Ford nation is insulted that of all things A WOMAN was the only person brave enough to stand up to Ford and his thugs and report it. Seriously one of the big untold stories out there for me is that this story was out there, the video was shopped around, and nobody else had the guts or the journalism integrity to try to follow it.

BTW she did visit Sun news (not sure she did an interview but did have a pic tweeted out by Batra) I also find Coren to be a fair interviewer/conservative, I think her interview with him would good (see not all right-wingers are a-holes in my mind) I still wonder what exactly does Ford nation think the job of the media is? Ford Nation sounds more like something out of Putin Russia with the "follow the leader" "silence the media" agenda they have. It is so f-up that a group of people would rather follow a leader who is a proven liar and go silence an independent media sources out there. I'd always side with a critical media even if "my guy" is in power.

Mike, I think you interviewing Doolittle would be great, I'd especially like to hear if she followed up or knew about the Rinse situation.

February 7, 2014 @ 8:48 PM

Nigel Trousershrapnel

@Tron,
I still don't think it's fair (or accurate) to paint Ford supporters with the same brush. Different people support him for different reasons. You can dismiss them, but you can't ignore them. Those who fail to learn from the past are destined to repeat it.
The left leaning side of the equation has to figure out why these people support a "proven liar", then give them, the disenfranchised voter (your Ford Nation), a viable option in the October election. Failing that there is the distinct possibility that we will be having this discussion again this same time next year. As McNulty so wisely said, the battle is unwinnable, if both sides can only see there side of the argument.
So my advice to you (for what it's worth) would be to try and understand the why. And try to stay away from the "any sane person" or "a-holes" verbiage. Tends to inhibit open and honest conversation.

@ Teunis - While I agree with your premise, your delivery sucks. Argie is not a fucking idiot. He's actually pretty learned and well spoken. The man knows his shit.

What he is, is stuck somewhere in 1975 when the only person whose opinion mattered was white men of a certain age and income. He can't deal with people living a different lifestyle than the one he deems appropriate, and gets quite bent out of shape when exceptions are made for them, despite the fact that for all of modern history, the only people exceptions were made for were white men of a certain age and income.

It is unfortunate, but it is my hope that continued exposure to the more moderate opinions on this site will change him, because if you keep him off of the subject of Ford, Gays or Muslims, he's actually pretty interesting and entertaining..

I PVR'd the opening ceremonies and watched them with my wife last night. Some really visually spectacular moments - I thought they blew ours from Vancouver away. While I was watching and listening to the speeches that focussed on celebrating diversity and tolerance for all etc., I realized how fucking stupid this flag controversy at City Hall is. We get so wrapped up in our symbols, don't we? I personally couldn't care less if the rainbow flag flew at City Hall 365 days a year, because it just doesn't matter. Getting all puffed up about how we should support our gay athletes by flying this flag is equally meaningless. Like Putin's advisors are going to call an emergency session because Toronto's flying a rainbow flag. It's not going to change anything.
The time to take real action was long ago. Sochi should not have been awarded these games in the first place, and it should have been made very clear to the world that they were denied because of Russia's stance on gay rights. That would have meant something. Even after that, if we really care so much about this issue, Canada could have taken the lead and boycotted these games. That would have meant something. That time has past. We've gone into the games with our eyes fully open, and decided to play along, so the time for political bitching and distractions is over. Shut up and enjoy the games.

Yikes,

Tried to watch the Q interview with Robin Dolittle and couldn't get past 2 minutes. A) I would never use the word attractive to describe her, mind you I never saw the value is labeling women in media by their looks anyway. B) If she ends up on TV, I'd never watch, boring, I see what @Argie means about the cadence and she just sounded 100% unprepared and a little unprofessional. Maybe it's her youth, I have no idea how old she is.

I live in Toronto and if the same circus ran for Mayor again, I'd vote for Mayor Ford again. Does that make me a Ford defender, whatevs.

WRT *any* journalist following up on the Ornge or Gas Plant scandals, it not a matter of who "broke" the story, it's the follow through. If one, just 1 reporter put 10% of the effort in to either of those scandals that went in to the Ford witch hunt, it would be rare to see Mayor Ford on the front page of the paper. Not saying that it should get attention, just that it would be dwarfed by the fact that Ontarian's have been screwed over to the tune of Billions of dollars with NO upside.

Mayor Ford has done things in the city that the majority of voters like and wanted, former Premier McGutless can not make that claim. Mayor Ford has not personally benefited from his scandal, former Premier McGutless has.

If people want a with hunt, they will eventually find a witch, I would just like to see them spend some of their day job on obvious things like the Billions of dollars the we as tax payers have lost out on due to obvious and deliberate deception and then gutless escapism.

@TOMike,

Calgary is NOT flaying the gay pride flag and no protests are planned there, nor in Edmonton according to this article: http://www.thestar.com/news/canada/2014/02/06/canadian_cities_to_fly_gay_pride_flags_in_olympic_protest.html

They also mention several other cities Mayors "ordered" the flag flown, why do they get such "power" when it's the City Manager in Toronto?

As much as I like the idea of flying the Olympic flag to show support of all athletes, it is against the Olympic rules. See: http://registration.olympic.org/en/faq/detail/id/24

The Olympics are about athletics and should not be politicized in my opinion. Leave the Olympic and gay pride flags out of it and simply support our and the other participating countries athletes in achieving their goals.

Now where do I request that the COC request their flag be raised at City Hall?

No apologist here and I never said Mayor Ford was a saint, I just voted for the best of a very bad bunch of circus clowns, freaks and side shows. Give me a better choice and I'll choose it.

If anyone thinks the City of Toronto lost any credibility in all of this, they are way off base. Where we lose credibility is in the circus of clowns, freaks and side shows that want to be Mayor. That's what needs to change and I have no idea how to fix that unfortunately. Have a quick look at the City of Washington DC. Their Mayor was arrested on Federal charges for drug use, spent 6 months in prison and was reelected. What do you think the world wide population thinks of Washington DC? The same they always have. Marion Berry didn't change that one bit.

--Pete

February 8, 2014 @ 2:56 PM

@McNulty
I totally believe in free speech - for everyone. I dint believe in indoctrination as we've seen with the educational system in Ontario. McGuinty under the the pressure of Wynne and that perv (who's name escapes me)wanted 7 and 8 yr olds to learn about anal sex, masturbation, and God knows what else. Thankfully the ever malleable Premier gave int to the unions and parent groups and kibosh-ed the motion.

This is essentially what Putin and his govt are trying to prevent. You can still be gay and proud of it in Russia - you just can't have it shoved down the throats of ever school child. I'm good with that.

Again as a reasonable person, I believe everyone should be able to live in peace and safety have the same rights. Russia is not Iran, Saudi Arabia or most islamic countries. In Russia, no one is being imprisoned or executed for being gay. I hope you're smart enough to see the difference.

So the hyper-sensitive wanks can go ahead and call me names. Unlike certain groups today, I can take it.

February 8, 2014 @ 3:07 PM

Tron

@Pete, you are kind of all over the place. DC reputation did take a hit with Berry, you yourself name-dropped him as the city is forever known as the city that elected a crack smoker. Second, if you don't want to be called an apologist, don't use words like "witch-hunt" when describing Ford situation. A witch hunt is blaming a person/group for something they have nothing to do with (bad harvest = must be witches) but witches don't exist so they are being blamed for something they had nothing to do with. Ford DID SMOKE CRACK, was called on it, denied and was proven to be a liar. That's not a witch-hunt, that's the truth. Something Ford has no idea what it is.

Claiming that Ford does what citizen want is also BS. Ford hasn't had an approval rating over 50% since the summer of 2011. He went form 60% to the 40s in his first year & has sat there since. Ford did waste money, getting his football buddies on the payroll. Coming to work at noon & leaving at 4 and half the time signing bobblehead or pretending to workout or coaching football or whatever time-waster he does. Skipping work cause he's home with a hangover or peeing at a park or exchanging packages with drug dealers. His billion dollar subway that will drain operating costs for 30 years. Even when he went cheap on tree pruning that came back to bit us after the ice storm.

@Nigel,Big believer in "learn from history" quote. Ford didn't win because of Ford Nation, he won because he got moderates to buy into his message. I have always said in 2010 Ford easily ran the best campaign, his handlers deserve major credit, they kept this buffoon on message and he didn't get distracted. Ford didn't really get involved with things like this, he stayed with "gravy train" message. Also candidate Ford was very different than Councilor Rob Ford. He didn't do as much "anti-gay/downtown/streetcar/ everybody that doesn't agree with me 100% rants like he did as councilor and mayor. He was much more positive when he ran for Mayor. Then his true colors shown and his appeal dropped.

Learn from history, why do you think the federal Conservatives aren't really pushing the social agenda issue? It's not because Harper loves gays. It's because their smart, he's got the bible thumpers voting for him anyway either way. If he goes strong on the "moral" issue it will turn of moderates, that why he didn't do it (smart move, won a majority) On the other hand look at the provincial Conservatives who had a 20-point lead in the last election and for some odd reason started going pandering to the hard-right religious groups and going after stuff like gay-straight alliance and sure made the extreme part of his party happy but kind freaked out the moderates.

February 8, 2014 @ 4:28 PM

@Argie,

Nope, you've completely lost me here. You're a complete fucking idiot if you honestly believe Russia is simply preventing the teaching of anal sex and masturbation and whatever other random "gay" shit you imagine. They've effectively and practically legalised vigilante street "justice" of beating down gay people on their streets. The police turn a blind eye to it. I don't know of any examples of outright murder, but I wouldn't be surprised if that has occurred too.

I cannot believe you condone this in any way, or hold Russia to such a high regard that they would split hairs in this way.

Putin effectively declared gay people persona non grata in Russia, whatever the bill is technically called.

@Tron: I think Hudak and the Ontario PC's are learning from history a little too late. They are trying to put some distance between themselves and the Right to Work gibberish he was promoting months ago. Just as Tory tripped and fell on the religious schools issue, you don't present what looks like an anti-worker platform when 1000's have lost good jobs in the last year. Hope Hudak learns as Ontario can't afford the Liberals for another 4 years, given the interest on Ontario's deficit is almost 10 Billion a year and the 3rd largest expenditure in the budget.
Did a reality check quick calculation: If the government was to amortize the current debt (at low interest rates) over 25 years the cost would be in the range of +$16 billion a year. i'm not going to defend Argie. I don't know Argie - maybe he really does hate homosexuals, but nothing I've read here would lead me to believe that.
In my experience (and it's extremely apparent in the little microcosm that we call torontomike.com) it's often those who are self-described "liberals" that are the quickest to judge, and intolerant of perceived dissent. There are no shades of grey (even our host Mike speaks in absolutes) - you either completely agree or you're a homophobe, or a "denier" or a racist or whatever derogatory label applies to the topic at hand, end of discussion.

I've had to delete several Argie comments in which he equates homosexuality with inferiority or "wussy".

Argie likes to dance on the line, because when he goes over the line, I snip it. There's zero tolerance here with regards to judgement based on sexual preference, skin colour or gender.

February 10, 2014 @ 9:28 AM

Argie

....but lots of tolerance for negative comments about religion - of course there being one exception. Right Mike?

@Argie

I knew you'd bring up religion. I'm not cool with bashing someone for something they can't change. For example, the fact they're black or Asian or a woman or gay.

Religion is different. I happen to believe all religion is bullshit, and I wrote mainly about Roman Catholicism for one very good reason: I was raised Catholic, it's my personal experience and it's what I know.

What I've never done, it grossly generalize with a statement like this: All catholics are pedophiles. If someone wrote that, I'd snip it.

February 10, 2014 @ 9:43 AM

Argie

@Mike
Fair enough. Going by Corey's definition I'm not a "homophobe' - not that it matters any.

Its funny neither Ben, Mike or any of the other over-sensitive liberals can't come up with a definition. It has to be a fair minded, common sense guy like Corey.

Why don't you take this opportunity to clear the air. What do you think of homosexuals and homosexuality?

February 10, 2014 @ 9:57 AM

Ben Vidal

@ Corey: For someone who is usually level headed I can't understand you right now. First off Argie makes a completely false and outright lie about what Putin is doing in Russia with people in non traditional relationships. I think when Putin stated that all gays are welcome to the Olympics as long as they stay away from children is where you get the idea what their view point is. Numerous videos have surfaced where straight Russians setup gay Russians on proposed meetups. Only to have the Gay Russian show up and be beaten or humiliated by gang of thugs.

Equal rights for all including gay people does not equal propaganda. Was the struggles that African Americans went through for equal rights propaganda? Should it have been stemmed? Awareness for all is what people like Argie on the right fear. As Mike said Argie continually dances on the line on purpose. Which is why I know he isn't stupid.

@Argie: The proposed Ontario curriculum wasn't to teach 7 and 8 year olds about masturbation and anal sex. Please do some research, you challenged Markosaar to, I think you should heed your own advice.

As for Argie thinking I'm over-sensitive he needs to get his head checked. People in my life would tell me that's the last thing I am. Then again disagree with Argie on one of his extreme views and you automatically become oversensitive.

February 10, 2014 @ 10:31 AM

Argie

@Ben
"as long as they stay away from children "
That's a complete false translation of what he said.

The Russian law restricts all sexual propaganda (gay, straight, with animals, whatever). Its only the gay activists and their annoying enablers like yourself who seem to have an issue with it.

I don't want my children being forced fed any kind of sexual propaganda. To me that's reasonable. You don't care because you don't have children. Maybe that will change when you do.

@Argie

Here's the exact translation. Ben's not far off...

'We aren't banning anything, we aren't rounding up anyone, we have no criminal punishment for such relations unlike many other countries. One can feel relaxed and at ease, but please leave the children in peace.'

- Russian President Vladimir Putin

February 10, 2014 @ 10:49 AM

Argie

" please leave the children in peace"
Meaning, they don't want children being preached to about anything related to sexuality. Again, I agree with that.

You and the mainstream media have to relax and don't take everything Putin says as an attack against the gays. I'm no fan of Putin but he's right here. Sorry if that makes me a homophobe or whatever label you wan to attach to me. I don't care.

All I need to know is this.

After Charles Hamelin won gold for Canada today, he shared a big public kiss with his girlfriend.

Had he shared a big public kiss with his boyfriend, he'd have been booted out of Russia.

February 10, 2014 @ 11:04 AM

Argie

@mike
I'm willing to bet you anything that if it was with his boyfriend at these games, they wouldn't be "booted out of Russia" as you put it."

Of course the North American MSM (you included) would consider it the biggest thing since the Berlin Wall came down.

Would you be okay if Charles Hamelin shared a big kiss with his boyfriend after winning gold? Would you be okay if your kids saw it?

February 10, 2014 @ 11:17 AM

Argie

@Mike
I feel like I'm one of those accused communist's during the Senator McCarthy hearings....

My honest answer is yes it would be awkward with my kids watching. I would have to explain it (they're all under 6 currently). Does that make me worse than Hitler?

If you're okay with your kids seeing a man and woman kiss like that, but not a man and man, you're teaching them that there's something wrong with homosexuality.

I wish you wouldn't teach them that.

February 10, 2014 @ 11:36 AM

Argie

@Mike
Before you get all angry at me, my 5 yr old will usually ask "why are those people kissing on the lips" when she sees it.

As for your comment: "you're teaching them that there's something wrong with homosexuality", there's no need to get into that. I don't have the time today. You and some of the others here will only get angry and wish death on me if I'm honest. Sorry. Have a good day.

I'm the guy who reads all your comments, remember? I know you think there's something wrong with homosexuality. Based on your other comments about being a staunch Catholic it's likely because you deem the act as immoral and a sin.

I'm teaching my kids that gay people are born gay and there's absolutely nothing wrong with it.

@Corey

This fact explains Argie's homophobia.

February 10, 2014 @ 11:54 AM

Argie

@Mike
True Catholics also believe heterosexual sex outside of marriage is a sin. Baptists believe dancing, gambling and booze are wrong and sinful.

February 10, 2014 @ 12:04 PM

Toronto Mike Verified as the defacto Toronto Mike

@Argie

As silly as that all is, one chooses to have sex outside of marriage, dance, gamble or drink alcohol.

One does not choose to be gay.

February 10, 2014 @ 12:06 PM

Argie

@Mike
OK, this is where you've slipped up. The RC church does not consider same-sex attraction a sin. However, to act on it, is.

I already know what you're going to counter with. But go ahead anyway. Seriously though, I really should get back to work.

By denouncing homosexual relations as a sin, you're on the wrong side of history. This is civil rights, as far as I'm concerned. I won't host such hate.

February 10, 2014 @ 12:30 PM

markosaar

Does Argie's entire opinion of homosexuality really reduce down solely to scripture?

February 10, 2014 @ 1:19 PM

McNulty

Why do you engage him? You know where he stands on homosexuality. He can’t stand it. He abhors it. You can’t reason with him about it. He will spew his almost hate speech and then say, “What me?” He has intolerance and it directly conflicts with his claim of Christianity. He doesn’t do unto others. Where’s the love for fellow man? It is conditional?

No debate will convince him otherwise.

February 10, 2014 @ 2:26 PM

Argie

@McNulty
You really should learn how to read. It may take a while, but when you do, re-read my posts.

Yes, Argie, veiled insults at my literacy levels is a great way to deflect your intolerance you gay people. I've been reading your hate for years. No insult will hide those facts. I've even read some of the ones Mike deleted. I have a long memory, Argie. The wishing AIDS on a gay comment spoke volumes about your level of tolerance.

Well, my trainer is excited about his brother going to the Brier. He would have gone if the Brier was in Ontario or Quebec, but it is in BC. Anyway, I'm more excited about the Brier than the Olympics. It's so nice to have change and I wonder who will win. I want either Currie or Balsdon to win. Actually it was Bice, but Greg Balsdon was injured so Bice was skipping. Now it's Balsdon for the Brier. I hope either Currie or Balsdon win. No more Howard. My trainer's last major league game is Wednesday. He very well could win Major League. That would be awesome. Anyway, without hockey, I'll talk about curling.
