What Do We Call This Decade?

calendarYes, 2007 went by awfully quickly, but I'm more concerned with how we're burning through this decade. How can we be hitting 2008 already? Didn't we just say goodbye to the 90s? 2008 is awfully late in this decade and I still don't know what we're calling it.

Do we call this decade the zeros? I don't think so. Is it the oh-oh's? Nah... Do we go old school and call it the aughts? I doubt that'll catch on.

We should name this sucker while we're still in it. In 2011 we're going to want to look back at this decade and it'll need a nickname.

It feels like it's just begun but my calendar suggests it's winding down. Time flies when you're bashing Bush, praising Google and throwing away your incandescent light bulbs.

I had this conversation with my friends back in the 90s. To this day they laughed at my suggestion that it would be called "aught". I admit it was a little silly, but they doubted the existance of the word and phrase.

I think we will just use "oh"-year. In the future I think this decade will be defined by Bush, 911 and growing distrust of the government.

In early 2006 I actually had a tagline for this site that read "Your Twenty Aught Six Fix".

Here are some suggestions:
* The Double Oh's
* The Aughts
* The First Decade
* 9/11 Decade
* The Oh's

I like the aught's its short right to the point and you know what it refers to.
You are soo right Mike, this decade is flying by. Life flies by. My question is, how will music of this decade be viewed?

Im all for the Aughts. My other thought has been what are we going to think when it comes to the music of this decade? I think we just lump it in with the 90's and kiss it goodbye.

Musically, I say this decade belongs to Canada.

* Broken Social Scene
* Arcade Fire
* Feist
* Stars
* Metric
* The New Pornographers

Of course, I'm a tad biased. ;-)
