The Closest I'll Get To Seeing Janis Joplin in Toronto

music

Janis Joplin passed away on October 4, 1970, almost four years before I was born.  I own Pearl and her Greatest Hits, but to truly appreciate Janis Joplin you had to be there.  I remember taking a pop culture history course at U of T and the professor attempting to convey the raw sexuality and importance of that distinctive voice.

Festival Express was a legendary 1970 tour across Canada by some of the world's biggest rock bands, including The Grateful Dead, Janis Joplin, and The Band.  It stopped at the CNE Grandstand in Toronto on June 27 and 28 that year before moving on to Winnipeg Stadium.

This is the closest I'm going to get to seeing Janis Joplin play my city.  Here she is in Toronto singing "Cry Baby".
