I'm so sick of Rogers.
Earlier today I read yet another Rogers press release, this one about Wednesday night NHL games.
Prime Video and Rogers Communications today announced a 12-year agreement for Prime Video in Canada to exclusively broadcast Wednesday night regular-season national NHL games in English and French, beginning with the 2026-2027 season.
Prime Video also acquires exclusive rights to select Stanley Cup Playoff series in Canada, comprised of two First Round playoff series and one Second Round series per year. This full lineup includes at least 26 national regular-season NHL games, beginning on Wednesday, September 30, available only on Prime Video in Canada at no additional cost to Prime members.
As I type, I do reluctantly subscribe to Rogers Sportsnet, but I'm not at all interested in Prime Video. So if Leafs games ever end up on Wednesday Night Hockey, you'll have to let me know what's happening.
Or not. My appetite for regular season NHL, even Leafs games, is already miniscule. Did I mention Rogers doesn't only own the NHL broadcast rights in this country, but they also own the NHL Leafs? I add that qualifier, because they do not own the CBL Leafs, which explains why I'll be at Christie Pits tomorrow night to soak in some baseball without exhausting my credit card.
But it's not just the NHL Leafs being controlled by Rogers. It's also the Blue Jays, Raptors, TFC and Argos, not to mention minor league affiliates Toronto Marlies, Raptors 905, and Toronto FC II. Rogers, it seems, has zero interest in women's leagues.
If you're still listening to commercial terrestrial radio, you might tune in Kiss 92.5 or CHFI, or on the AM dial 680 News or The Fan 590. All four are Rogers-owned. On television, in addition to Sportsnet, you have Citytv and OMNI.
Meanwhile, if you're catching a concert at the dome or the new stadium at Downsview Park, you're at either the Rogers Centre or Rogers Stadium. And we haven't even touched on Rogers's bread and butter, the internet, cable and mobile phone telecommunications offering.
There's a whole lotta Rogers going on in this city, and I'm pretty sick of it.
In fact, I'm seeing red.
