Ever since I moved to south Etobicoke 13 years ago, I've been getting better and better at cottaging in the city.
Here in Toronto we are blessed with some fantastic bike trails where you can forget you're in Canada's largest city. Throw in some quiet beaches and tremendous kayaking routes, and you've got yourself a cottage experience without leaving your hood.

Today is a hot one. It's hot enough that they cancelled my youngest's walk to an outdoor pool and my 3rd born's soccer practice. Environment Canada tells me it will feel like 46°C at 5pm. That's hot.
But by the lake, I went for my long bike ride before 9am when there was a lovely breeze and the heat hadn't set in. Then, a short ride to the Humber River and a lovely 11km paddle of the river before biking home in time to watch France vs. Spain in the World Cup semi-final.
I didn't swim, but rode and paddled by many swimmers taking a dip in Lake Ontario. I considered joining them, but I'll save my swims for Lake Huron next week.
