The Canadian Songwriterss Hall of Fame will have new inductees on September 26. Massey Hall is where you'll want to be to witness the Tragically Hip, Roch Voisine, Leslie Feist and singer Mike Reno and guitarist Paul Dean from Loverboy.
I've been thinking a lot lately about the Canadian indie rock explosion of the early 2000s. Broken Social Scene, Feist, Metric, Stars, Arcade Fire, Wolf Parade, the Deers, Hot Hot Heat, the New Pornographers... so much great music, so it's fab to see Leslie Feist honoured.
The Tragically Hip were always destined for the hall of fame, so this is as good a time as any. It's just too bad it couldn't have happened while Gord was still with us. Speaking of TTH, I'll be in Hamilton on Friday night to see It's A Good Life If You Don't Weaken, a new musical set to the band's music.
I've long sought Mike Reno as a guest on Toronto Mike'd. The man was part of Tears Are Not Enough for goodness sake! Songs like Turn Me Loose, The Kid Is Hot Tonite, and Working For The Weekend were everywhere when I was growing up.
Roch Voisine, however, is a blind spot for yours truly, but Quebec has always had their own industry. It's a name I've always known, just don't ask me to name a song.
