When Shock G passed away, I spoke with Bob Willette about our mutual admiration for Sex Packets on a Pandemic Friday episode with Stu and Cam.
Sex Packets was the first Digital Underground album and Doowutchyalike was the first single from that album. I bought the 12-inch single, which still lives on in the TMDS basement studio.
There are lyrics from Doowutchyalike that I've been dropping since I first heard the song in 1989. For example:
- I just dropped the line "on the serious tip" in a conversation, prompting this very article, and that's a reference to Doowutchyalike
- If one of my kids is hungry, I'll say "Now if you're hungry, get yourself something to eat" and then I'll typically follow that up with "And if you're dirty, then go take a bath."
- Anything foot related get a "Don't doowutchyalike, go see a foot doctor tonight!"
