If you heard my chat with CFNY documentary director Matt Schichter, you heard us wondering what changes would be made to the version airing on TVO. Matt delivered a final edit of CFNY: The Spirit of Radio to the producer in February 2025, and I watched this version multiple times over the past couple of weeks.
Today, I was able to finally see the version airing on TVO tonight, and the only changes I could detect were to title cards. Some title cards were rewritten. For example, this is the title card after the Chris Sheppard segment that airs on TVO.
When Matt Schicter delivered his final 60-minute edit of the film in February, this was the Shep title card.
Chris Sheppard has seemingly disappeared. I have no idea if he is "alive and well". I hope he's both.
I've been asked what was in the 90-minute version that was cut for the 60-minute version, and here's a brief list off the top of my head:
- more Pete and Geets
- talk about the U-Knows / CASBYs
- a segment about a young Jim Carrey hosting the U-Knows
- more about the Police picnic / Canada Day festivals / Edgefests
- more Blue Rodeo (CFNY was the only station playing Outskirts)
- More Barenaked Ladies stuff, with them making Gordon with the 100k they won from CFNY
