Indiecast Podcast Shuttered

Every quarter, I record a special episode of Toronto Mike'd I call FOTMCast. The name FOTMCast was inspired by a podcast from UPROXX entitled Indiecast. I'm so out of the loop when it comes to new music, I try to keep up with the current indie music scene by listening to Steven Hyden and Ian Cohen shoot the shit for an hour. Once in a while, they even talk about Canadian artists.

From the UPROXX site, here's the official description:

INDIECAST is a weekly show from UPROXX Indie Mixtape where Hyden and Cohen discuss the biggest news and names in modern indie, as well as look back to moments that established the indie rock canon.

Today, Steven Hyden posted on Bluesky that Indiecast was done. Here's the big news:

PROFESSIONAL NEWS: This Friday (Dec. 19) will be the final episode of Indiecast for the foreseeable future. Uproxx has discontinued production of the podcast I’ve hosted w/ Ian Cohen for just over five years as part of an overall downsizing of my role with the company.

I'll continue to work and write there, though not as much as before (and for less money). I wrote about my future plans (which I'm excited about) for my newsletter, to which you should subscribe, now more than ever. tinyurl.com/ynj2wu9k

I produce podcasts for a living, and I can tell you the cost of having two people chatting about a subject for 60 minutes minutes is pretty low. I can only assume this cancellation is more tied to a parting of ways with Hyden and less the production cost of the podcast.

If Ian Cohen and Steven Hyden want to Zoom with me once a week to tell me what I need to know about the indie scene, I'd really appreciate it. Heck, I'll stick it in the Toronto Mike'd feed for the world to enjoy.
