High Stakes Playoff Payoff

I recently wrote about how my interest in sports is waning. In actuality, it's my interest in low-stakes sport that has plummeted. I just don't want to deal with a 162 game regular season Blue Jays schedule, but I'm still quite interested in playoff baseball.

Today I tuned into my first full Jays game of the season, another drubbing of the Yankees in the ALDS. It actually got silly, with the Jays up 12-0 at one point. But what was more impressive than the offensive outburst (Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hit the fist grand slam in Blue Jays postseason history) was the performance by young Trey Yesavage in his fourth career big-league start. It was as masterful a start as I've ever seen in all my years of watching the Jays in the playoffs. I was speechless.

Young Yesavage had ice in his veins and seemed so composed as he mowed down the Yankees, recording a franchise record 11 strikeouts over 5 1/3 no-hit and scoreless innings.

The game was thrilling, and it didn't feel like I missed a beat skipping almost all of the previous 163 games. Here's hoping we complete the sweep on Tuesday night.
