Ben Wagner and Dan Shulman Calling Jays Games on the Radio this Summer

When Jerry Howarth announced his retirement from calling play-by-play for Blue Jays games on the radio, we had a spirited discussion about who would replace him. Click over and read the comments for a refresher. I stated that Dan Shulman was in the city and the ideal replacement, and if he wanted the gig, it was his for the taking.

Today, Rogers announced that Buffalo Bisons play-by-play man Ben Wagner and Dan Shulman are replacing Jerry Howarth. Mike Wilner continues to be a part of the broadcast team and will host Blue Jays Talk throughout the 2018 season.

Dan Shulman is also getting his own podcast, because why not?! Everyone else has one! Dan, if you're out there, it's time for you to appear on Toronto Mike'd.

Now let's play ball...

Very cute video!! I occasionally listen to parts of Jays' games on the radio and it will certainly
be strange at first not to hear Jerry Howarth's enthusiastic and friendly voice, but it sounds
like the broadcast will remain strong.

Jerry's warm voice will be dearly missed this season. Listening to him call a game was always a pleasure.

I've yet to hear a second of Ben Wagner so will reserve judgement until I hear him work some games. The positive reaction to his hiring on social media suggests he's a good man for the job. Also happy that 590 is using a rotating cast of colour analysts for this season - best to give a few guys some chops and see who emerges out of the pack as a clear long-term replacement.

More Dan Shulman - both via radio and podcast form - is a great thing for fans of this team. He is simply the best in the business.

Wagner grows on you.
Shulman is very solid; a great choice, and a no brainer.

As I've done over these past couple of seasons, I will still switch games off when its time for Wilner's contribution.

Was hoping Elliott Price would re-consider, maybe as time passes,....
