I stopped watching Two and a half Men after Charlie Sheen left, but my curiosity got the best of me and I thought I would watch the finale. What a horrible finale.

I guest posted yesterday ("Gigs") about good and bad jobs i've had growing up, and a lot of you posted your own too. Great stuff. This Guest posted about working somewhere for 3 days, and it reminded me of 3 whole other jobs I completely forgot about..

*Swensen's Ice Cream store (i don't think they called it was a wasn't the 1920's) - it was the one that used to be located in the eaton centre - lasted 2 shifts. Terrible. And really really bright in there.

*Rink Rat - you know, the guy who moves the nets out of the way when the zamboni floods and the ice at rinks.

I'll save the worst for last..

One time I responded to an ad for a delivery guy for an "audio distribution company". That ad was a little misleading. In a nutshell, I was one of those guys who would yell at you while you're driving to pull over, because I've got some speakers in the back of my van that have "fallen off the back of a truck". It was unbelievably bad, and I lasted exactly 5 hours. I still can't believe people would actually stop and have a look.

I have never seen an episode of Two and a Half Men.

I did see 3 episodes of Big Bang Theory on a plane, though.

February 20, 2015 @ 9:42 AM

I wish someone would tell CBS that they're the only ones still filming in front of a studio audience. Its so freaking lame - so pre-2000.

February 20, 2015 @ 9:45 AM

My Habs lost last night. They lost in a shootout. I hate shootouts. They're a way to lose games. Anyway, they'll win tomorrow I hope and my Coyotes will win tomorrow I hope. My trainer lost the semifinal in Major League on Tuesday so they are done. No more Prebble. I really wanted them to go to the final, but they didn't win. Oh well, either Kean or Menard will win the Brier and I'm really looking forward to the Brier.

February 20, 2015 @ 9:46 AM

2 1/2 men was best between season 2 & 6. The cast gelled very well & they were all masters at their outlandish characters. It was getting old by the time Sheen left

TBT was good the first few years but when they started adding GF's for all the cast the humour lost it's "bazinga". I"m surprised you don't watch it given that BNL wrote the theme song.

February 20, 2015 @ 9:50 AM

I don't believe you have only one pair of jeans.

Let's see your hand.

I call.

I had another pair and my wife said it was too short. I'm pretty sure I chucked those.

I sincerely believe I'm currently down to one pair which I shall wear tomorrow when I present at Podcamp Toronto at 2pm.

February 20, 2015 @ 10:05 AM

Big Bang Theory wasn't too bad for the first 3 seasons and then it turned into Friends. Unwatchable now.

February 20, 2015 @ 10:17 AM

I tried watching 2.5 men and i couldn't stand more than 5 minutes. I realize it's very subjective, but to me it was unfunny, on-the-nose and I just find that standard 3 camera sit-com production style out of date. It might seem strange that approach to shooting it would bother me but it just does, similar to how the cookie-cutter reality tv model annoys the hell out of me too.

February 20, 2015 @ 10:18 AM

Lost complete interest in 2 and a half men. It had some great moments, but then flat lined. The loss of Charlie Sheen coupled with the brother being morphed into this farce of a character I couldn't watch it.

I equate the transformation of the brother Allan to that of Roseanne's sister Jacky on the show Roseanne? First couple of seasons her sister was normal and then by the end they had turned her into this schizophrenic monster. Is there a reason they do this to characters? Do audiences enjoy that the characters they started watching morph into these almost cartoonish versions?

I still enjoy The Big Bang Theory. I would say earlier seasons made me laugh out loud. Now I chuckle here or there.

According to the address for this Open Mike, it's #66. That sounds low to me.

I used to name Open Mikes different names each time. Like Family Day Weekend Open Mike or Leafs Playoff Drive Open Mike.

This is just the 66th entry with the name "Friday Open Mike".

I went to the Hip show at the ACC Last Night. LOVED it. I knew i would but the last two shows I saw had Iffy sound and i did have some concerns. Other than Rob Baker being slightly lower than i would have prefered in the mix sometimes it was fantastic.

Although i'm forced to concede that I'm as tired a hell today and that i think the pot heads behind me were smoking way too much weed .

And that would be me getting old :(

There was a time I never missed a local Hip show. I haven't seen them since Canada Day 2011.

I love The Hip live. Maybe I'll see them next time they come around.

Fun fact: Only one song has been performed every time I've seen The Hip live.... and that's At The Hundredth Meridian.

This is a fascinating look at SNL and the story behind the the recent 40th Anniversary Celebrity Jeopardy skit.
I love Norm MacDonald's comments about Eddie Murphy and Mike Myers. Imagine the egos on that day...

Crowdfunding just raised over $100,000 for Elijah's funeral. I hope the balance over $20,000 goes to a reputable children's charity. Otherwise, some really evil people are going to see the death of a toddler as a money-making proposition. There seem to be such people, unfortunately.

When public rinks are forced to close in February when it's still below freezing out, it's a stern reminder that this city continues to have a revenue problem, not a spending problem.

February 20, 2015 @ 3:11 PM

Maybe it's too cold for the rink rats to do full shifts - labour laws? Or do you know it's about lack of funding?

February 20, 2015 @ 4:21 PM

This Sunday was chosen as the shut-down date to save money. It has nothing to do with this deep freeze.

lol. Patrick Martin is a wit.

February 20, 2015 @ 4:27 PM

@Mike - Oh, I didn't know that. That is truly ridiculous!!! I think they took way too long last summer to open the pools too. Let's just pay an extra $2 a year on our property taxes to keep these things going.

@this guest - Who says Federal politicians aren't funny? That was exactly the news story I needed yesterday, after Elijah that is.

February 20, 2015 @ 4:45 PM

Has there been an update on that young man in a wheelchair who fell and died in front of his home last week?

The first thought that crossed my mind was he had been drinking which caused him to fall. I could be wrong. The story was he had been out with his friends that night. He paid for a taxi to drive him home and sadly he fell and froze to death in front of his home.

Has an autopsy been done yet?

I didn't like the taxi driver being partially blamed for his death. What if this man had told the driver he didn't need any help getting into his home and to go? How was he dressed that night?

February 20, 2015 @ 5:19 PM

Really MIKE Toronto doesn't have a spending problem?
What about millions spent on the Homeless Industry.
What about the thousands wasted at the TCHB.
Oh I guess it's not a spending problem but it sure is waste .
And before you jump all over me about the homeless, yes money needs to be allocated, but it's a growth industry with no end in sight, there needs to be other ideas, solutions coming from the politicians. The more money you throw at it the bigger it's going to get.

If you have a recent Lenovo laptop you may have a serious issue

February 20, 2015 @ 5:58 PM

@Irv I read about that recently. It's serious.

February 20, 2015 @ 6:04 PM

If any of you have a recent model computer from Lenovo you may be infected with something called Superfish. The media has identified it as "malware" but after some research I would say it's beyond standard malware.

This software apparently installed the equivalent of a "root CA" on your machine which allows it pull off a man in the middle. This means it can & does compromise any SSL/TLS connection. You use a SSL connection to securely connect to your bank, Facebook, etc. If you see https:// that's SSL/TLS. Without boring you with encryption technologies, it means this malware could have collected your passwords & read all data even if it was encrypted.

Https:// is a detection tool

1-0 Carolina. TV turned off.

February 20, 2015 @ 7:31 PM

Forgot to mention, TV off, time for Dylan.
Or maybe a little Tom Petty.

February 20, 2015 @ 7:45 PM

Nothing to say. Just seeing what the site is like on my phone.

February 20, 2015 @ 7:49 PM

Sloppy 3rds
Avery, Phaneuf & rumor as it??

Awesome game for Raptors. Leafs great game too - the last on the Titanic & trying to swim to shore in the cold water with no boat, life jacket or direction to reach land.

February 20, 2015 @ 10:25 PM

My Nets won. That was the only good thing that happened last night. Too bad the Raptors had to win as well. Well, yes, Rinks are closing. It sucks. That means my trainer can't take me skating. Some sponsors paid to keep some of them open, but not Rosedale Park, too bad. Anyway, my Habs will get out of their slump and win tonight. They better. Good that the Leafs lost.

Off to the snow belt today.

@ speysidePhil, what Dylan were you listening to?
I like listening while I drive. Maybe
Tempest and Planet Waves.
It's a Planet Waves sort of day. I have no
real reason for saying that. Somebody
probably said that once and I copied it.

Really enjoyed reading about all
those gigs people had. My god Irv
you have had the experiences.

Blackberry just updated my OS on my BBZ10, now I am struggling with getting my emails with Bellnet and Sympatico working. First world problem but all was working fine, until this update. They changed the interface and screens too which being an older tech user just befuddles me. Going to be wasting the day getting this sorted out it seems.

Come to room 201 at Ryerson's 80 Gould Street at 2pm today to hear me share stories from 13 years of blogging and 3 years of podcasting.

February 21, 2015 @ 10:57 AM

Blind Dave

For as much as the Leafs may try to tank, you know darned well they'll screw that up as well. At some point they'll go on a five game winning (or points) streak, take themselves out of any real running for Connor McDavid, and the team that finishes one or two places below them will luck out in the lottery. Either that or they'll choose the one player in the top five or six that doesn't blossom into an NHL player (read: they'll ruin the poor kid).

It's bloody cold on the prairies today. And tomorrow.

Anyone heard any good indie or rock music that's come out this year?

February 21, 2015 @ 1:55 PM

Well, looks like my rink isn't closing after all. Some sponsors are keeping it open for another month, but it's so bloody fricken cold out there. Anyway, how about those Habs. They won. Max Pacioretty had two goals. It's great they won again, but my Coyotes lost and my Suns lost. That sucks. Too bad the Leafs had to win, but the Raptors lost. Six more days until the Brier. I can't wait. Just wait and Andrew will be wrong. Kean or Menard will win it and I'll win the pool.

February 22, 2015 @ 8:01 AM

@TO Mike

I've never heard you speak publicly, but your podcasting skills have gone through the roof so I have no doubt you made an excellent presentation to a "live" (as opposed to???) audience.

February 22, 2015 @ 12:28 PM

@ Mike they played At The Hundredth Meridian!

Of Course it was the 20th anniversary of Fully Completely tour so they would have LOL.

I haven't seen them nearly often enough when they have been local which is one reason I went to this show.

I got a vibe at the show that makes me wonder if they are going pack it in . Nothing was said of course but Gord sort of emphasized certain words and the whole idea of touring a twenty year old album makes me wonder.

So you may have missed your chance,I hope not though . I'd go again any time.

February 22, 2015 @ 2:18 PM

Are you going to bike for The Ride For Cancer this year?

February 22, 2015 @ 2:24 PM

And they will say that this was Rex Murphy's finest hour.

The CBC freelancer just issued the nation its ultimate call to arms, challenging Canadians to fight Stephen Harper's new anti-terrorism bill clause by clause, and word by word -- and to refuse to cede an inch of freedom beyond what is needed.

"Every clause should be fought over," Murphy said on CBC's The National Thursday night. "Every potential advance on the liberty of the citizen should be examined as to its ultimate necessity."

Holy fuck. When Elvis has 110 podcasts in the can, I'll go on his 111th episode and gladly weigh the fuck in on what he's done. While doing that, I'll make a REAL point of highlighting what I didn't bother listening to - just because.

Elvis is another C-word - a contrarian fuck. That being said, I'm pretty sure I'd like 'Elvis' in real life. In spite of himself.

February 23, 2015 @ 12:02 AM

Not a whole lot happened in sports yesterday, but my Coyotes play tonight in New Jersey. Coyotes better win. My Habs are in St. Louis tomorrow. Another Habs win I hope. Now five more days until the Brier. I really can't wait. Kean or Menard will win the Brier. I can just feel it happening. I want my money so they'll win.
