Voters in Ottawa, London and Windsor .
YOU MORONS!!!

August 2, 2013 @ 9:10 AM

Ben vidal

@ Speyside: Have you ever thought that perhaps Hudak is a moron. There is a reason people don't want him in despite everything else that has happened. There has never been a more gutless uninspiring PC leader.

Stop blaming the general public and start blaming the conservative party for putting forward a lame duck.

Lets also not get ahead of ourselves and think that Doug Holyday winning last night was about people wanting the conservatives in as much as it was about about Doug Holyday himself.

I'd say today is an even more embarrassing day for Hudak than it is for Wynne.

August 2, 2013 @ 9:17 AM

Mississaug Phil

@ Ben - I agree that Hudak is not the man to lead the Conservatives to victory, but please tell me you aren't actually pulling for Wynne. Haven't the Libs stole enough of our money??

August 2, 2013 @ 9:20 AM

Mississaug Phil

Oh, and in Burlington Monday is Joseph Brant Day

August 2, 2013 @ 9:20 AM

Argie

@ Speyside

Please, the term is "developmentally challenged." That's what those voters are.

August 2, 2013 @ 9:23 AM

Ben Vidal

@ Phil: Never said I'm pulling for Wynne. I think that with each passing day it isn't the Conservatives that are gaining steam, but the NDP. Is that the government you want in power?

Wynne to her credit has been more than apologetic about things and in many circumstances been more candid about certain wrongs committed in the last while by the liberal party. Doesn't mean pulling for, just good on her.

August 2, 2013 @ 9:25 AM

Wayner

The PC machine will be ousting Mr. Hudak shortly. They could have / should have picked up more than a single riding (and barely) with the Liberals track record.

I agree, Holyday's win had nothing to do with Hudak and everything to do with Holyday.

Yesterday was a very bad day for Hudak's party.

August 2, 2013 @ 10:04 AM

AFKAI

@Argie

So what you're saying is..is that unless people voted for the person you feel is the right candidate their developmentally challenged? And here I thought democracy was about what the masses chose not what you specifically want. How arrogant.

Ben Vidal is right on the money. It's not the voters who are developmentally challenged it's the Ontario PC's. They are unable to grasp that a party that is socially conservative isn't going to win in Ontario. It's akin to a steak shop setting up in Vegan village. Ontario voters may not trust the Liberals, but they trust/like the Ontario PC's even less. Mark my words, come the next election Mr Harper is going to get his ass electorally raped in Southern Ontario.

If the Conservatives want to win in Ontario, they need to go back in time to the Bill Davis era. Of course, to a modern day Conservative, Bill Davis is a "loony leftist moron that spends too much".

Vidal is right on the money. This is a very humiliating day for Hudak. When you can't win a contest where your competition is part of one of the biggest scandals of political history well...it's your leaders fault.

August 2, 2013 @ 10:12 AM

Mississaug Phil

@ Ben - I'd take the communist party over the Libs at this point. AFKAI was right on the money that the PC's need a culture change...i fear we are headed for another round of the Libs at both a provincial and federal level.

August 2, 2013 @ 10:19 AM

Is it just me or has the weather this summer sucked? And it’s now August...

I suspected as much when each forecaster ends with the phrase "not a complete wash-out today"…

August 2, 2013 @ 10:29 AM

AFKAI = Irv

Come on Irv, just go by "Irv."

August 2, 2013 @ 10:37 AM

Mississaug Phil

@ Wayner- This summer has indeed sucked weather wise...just hoping for good weather tomorrow, taking the boy to MarineLand.

@ Argie - You could be right about AFKAI being Irv. But don't you think he has a point about the Hudak PC's needing a facelift. You know how I feel about the Libs, but I just don't think Hudak is the guy to lead this Party.

August 2, 2013 @ 10:40 AM

@Phil

This incessant bickering about political parties & their respective slants is moot.

Politics in Canada is broken. Cooperation & serving the best INTERESTS of the country is gone. New Order has a CD called "Power Corruption and Lies". That best describes modern politics. The supporters of each of these parties are robot partisans seem to be unwilling or unable to actually look at things objectively. Look at the Senate? The corruption continues to deepen yet we never hear those robot partisans speak out against their OWN when they get caught with hand in cookie jar. Take Brazeau, we heard all types of wonderful things from him until he was arrested. Now, you hear nothing but what is VERY LOUD is that you don't hear any criticism. The whole system is like some country club of old men patting each other on the back. Shit, the whole system is like what you'd see on SOWNY.

Here's a real life example. I know a guy who is a very strong Harper supporter. He loathes the Ontario Liberals. He is forever telling me how they buried the province in debt. Yet, I showed him two charts, one with Ontario debt, the other with Federal Debt. Both lines run the same course..a sudden drop off as the economy slowed & a rapid increase in debt. He'll tell me that Ontario's economic issues are the fault of the Liberals. When I ask him about Canada's massive increase in debt he says "well we had a huge recession". He could never admit that his party was at the helm when national debt increased 120 billion dollars.

Or how about here in BC. We recently had an election and the Liberals won. The liberal party leader Christy Clark lost her seat. What did she do? Well she had one of her minions STEP DOWN from his seat (in a strongly liberal area) and called a by-election. If you got a second chance, why didn't everyone else? It's demonstrable proof that almost all politicians are complete scumbags.

If the addict up the street from me walks into 7-11 and steals a candy bar, they'll be arrested, charged & likely spend time in jail. When a politician or senator steals money their punishment is paying it back. If they can't pay it back they ask their party who coughs up taxpayer $$ to help a brother out. Bullshit

What this country needs is to rise up & make politicians and their robot partisan followers cower in fear. And that revolution should not about about party politics, it should be about honesty, integrity and transparency.

@markosaar Ya, I know that. I've run comment systems myself in the past (I gave up when weeding out trolls became a full time job), and BlogTO's is probably the weakest I've seen in a long time. It's a shame. When the trolls are away, there can be good discussions there.

Well, cooler weather is easier to work out in. When it's hot, it's so humid and sticky. It's okay if I don't have to do very much, but not if I have to do very much. I'm exercising inside all workout long in the winter so it's nice to have these cooler days. Not the rain though. It's supposed to rain today and I'm having a barbecue tonight so it better not rain. Otherwise I won't know what to do.

Not a great day. The new system at work is giving me a headache. Lots of little things keep cropping up. Wish I could retire, but I can't afford it. Diamondbacks keep losing. They suck. Oh well, it's only baseball. My Habs and coyotes will do a lot better.

August 2, 2013 @ 11:21 AM

Wow, a guy got shot because of a video that has never existed. I can relate. About 3 weeks ago, after doing technical reconn on the Tooth Fairy for a coming raid, I had the same thing happen. All I heard was the rumble of a Harley & then saw the tooth fairies tat's (they say "gimme the loot" on his stomach). Next thing you know, motherfucker opens fire with a Tec9 shattering the windows of my car. I hit the gas and got out of there.

It's really scary being physically assaulted over something that doesn't exist. lol

http://www.torontosun.com/2013/08/02/man-stabbed-over-alleged-rob-ford-crack-video

TORONTO - Blood was spilled over the alleged Rob Ford crack cocaine video.

Mohamed Siad, 27, was stabbed while in custody because other gang members wrongly blamed him for the heat coming down on them in Project Traveller because of the alleged crack video, the Sun has learned. But Siad hasn’t stopped shopping around the video since being swept up on 25 charges as part of the Project Traveller investigation - he tried to use it as a get-out-of-jail-free card.

Sources told the Sun he was trying to cut a deal with the prosecution to hand over the tape in exchange for a plea bargain on his Project Traveller charges. According to sources, the prosecution refused any deal with Siad because they felt they couldn’t corroborate, barring a witness that was there at the time, that Ford was smoking crack in the video.

It isn’t clear who has possession of the video or if it still exists.

The issue with the civil service isn't really the issue with unions so much. It's the atmosphere that's created in the civil service.

The public repeatedly demands that civil servants have their salaries cut & that they make too much money. The public incorrectly assumes civil servants "are getting rich". Now, the guy that cleans the bathrooms in the government probably makes some pretty good money compared to his peers in private industry. But when you get into the professional & leadership side of things the salaries are not comparable. Private industry pays more.

The result is that if you're a superstar you are NOT going to go work for the government. Take for example information technology. Would someone that's a skilled technologist want to go work for the government? To go work in a place that uses 6 year old equipment? To go to a place where changing a policy requires months of meetings and discussion? Not likely. Now if you want to get rich off the government you need a political friend inside that can "grease things up for you".

Politics is even worse. Politics doesn't attract visionaries. It attracts people who have an agenda. The old boys club in the Conservatives isn't any different than the old boys club in the NDP. It's very rare to find a politician with vision. Off hand the only one I can think of is Naheed Nenshi, the mayor of Calgary. You certainly can't find vision at Queens Park or in Ottawa.

Politics is an incestuous little circle jerk.

August 2, 2013 @ 2:05 PM

Argie

@ AF
I actually agree with most of what you wrote except Rob Ford has vision and Nenshi is just another politician. I agree he's smart and seems like a nice guy, but he simply says the things people want to hear. In terms of getting things done - he's just another empty suit.

August 2, 2013 @ 2:15 PM

August 2, 2013 @ 2:35 PM

I disagree with you on Naheed Nenshi.

Nenshi is just another politician?. A brown politician who is Muslim in a traditionally conservative city is a "status quo" politician? The same politician who advocates "building up, not out" in a city renowned for urban sprawl (as big as New York with 1/10 the population). A guy who stayed up nearly 2 days during the floods creating while Twitter created #nap4nenshi as a hashtag? Meanwhile other politicians did fabulous helping out photo ops then sped away in a government vehicle. I should add that Trudeau actually came to High River and busted a gut cleaning up. Trudeau going into High River is like fucking Trick Daddy showing up at a KKK convention.

Ford is a typical politician. He campaigned using a tired slogan about some mysterious gravy train. You're a numbers guy Argie, surely you would question his creative math on his so called savings (yet to be realized).

There is only one reason you have the opinion you do Argie. You are a "robot partisan". Your opinions are not objective, they are subjective. You automatically default to 'right wing conservative" in your choices.

Not so long ago you said that I often claimed I was "right wing" but I was not. But I am an advocate of the free market Argie. I also believe that a generous portion of society is in charge of it's own destiny. I don't buy into any politics, left or right. You are the proverbial "lap dog" in politics. I'm not. I support none of it at all. Canadian politics is:

angry white quebecor
pretty white quebecor
angry white toronto guy

Interesting entry from Warren Kinsella today.

http://warrenkinsella.com/2013/08/the-rob-ford-crack-video-the-truth/

Quote:

“A Crown attorney on the Project Traveller case, Paul Renwick, would not answer questions.

Daniel Brown, Siad’s lawyer, said in an email that ethical and professional obligations prevent him from speaking about anything he may have learned during his time as counsel. “Likewise, my conversations with prosecutors about any of my clients would be protected by the same solicitor-client privilege.”

“Unlike myself, the Toronto Police are not bound by privilege and would be in the best position to answer questions about what evidence is in their possession,” Brown said.

Brown also noted that while he is still the counsel of record for Siad, he is planning to make an application to remove himself from the case, for unspecified reasons.”

There is a thing called Crown Disclosure. The Crown Disclosure rule is that Crown must disclose all material information that is in its possession or control, even if the evidence isn’t going to be called at trial or is inculpatory or exculpatory.

Here’s what I know:

• Siad possessed the video.
• The police got the video when they arrested him, using a search warrant.
• The Crown office was then given the video.
• The Crown disclosed the video to lawyer Brown. He has it.

Will the video come out anytime soon? I don’t know.

But what I do know is this: the video is in the hands of many people, now. And it has been seen by many more. And it shows Rob Ford smoking what appears to be crack cocaine.

It is real.

You just described Irv/AF. He certainly isn't right wing or conservative.

August 2, 2013 @ 3:07 PM

AFKAI

Where did I say everything was "the white man's fault". If I was to do so, I'd be implicating myself too (being a white male).

Argie, allow me to explain to you what "angry white male" means. It's a term that is defines a certain segment of white males (often older) who are persistently negative & tend to have simplistic answers to complex causes. They blame everyone on everyone else. It's NOT a slag toward all white men just as when the term "nigga" is used in a rap song, it's not a derogatory term towards black people. In the world of IT Security & Hacking the term "fag" is often used to describe people. If I call someone a moralfag or a newfag I'm not implying their gay. It's just a term. That's just what angry white man is.

And you Argie are an angry white man. Dave Williams much more so.

As for Ontario being 'broke', if I happened to be the leader of the Ontario PC party and said that, you'd nod your head in agreement. As for your comments about Nenshi, it's hard to take anything you say without a grain of salt. You've made it crystal clear what you think of muslims.

August 2, 2013 @ 3:08 PM

Argie

@ AF
You're wrong on every point you made. Try again.

Do you not think males of a different colour than white aren't angry or simplistic? You and many other media clones can get away with knocking "white men". After all, they're only white and men. They would never have a term called "angry white women" would they? Nor would you see "angry brown male" written anywhere. So go ahead Irv be like everyone else. Despite what you think, you're just like the other sheep out there.

You really are becoming a bore - you need new shtick.

The reason the PC's lost the bi-elections is partly due to it's leader Tim Hudak but also how our economy has changed in the last 12 years. More it is now controlled by the public sector like education, health, and police and the Liberals control the purse strings. It's very difficult if your Tim Hudak to say he wants to privatize the LCBO when Wynne gives raises to it's workers 2 months ago. Who are you going to vote for?
Logic doesn't even play a part in the salaries of many public sector workers. Crime is going down and house fires have become a rare occurrence but both police and firefighters received huge pay increases in the last decade.
Sadly hardly anyone mentions the debt in this province which has reached $275 billion and the 3rd largest budget expenditure. Almost all it the direct result of this kind of vote buying. It's conceivable that Ontario debt will reach 1 trillion in our lifetime.
Hudak isn't scary that is.

Glen, the real problem with Ontario is that it's major trading partner, the United States, has entered what appears to be perpetual economic stagnation. Ontario trades heavily with the USA and that business partner has failed. It failed as a province (business, government & people) to diversify itself. I recall the debates in university about how Ontario should diversify. It didn't & look what's happened. The very same thing could happen to Alberta, which is a one trick pony with oil not a lot of people really like.

Right wing types will often claim that it's right wing policies that are pro business. Saskatchewan is used as an example. The province voted in a right wing government & suddenly it became an economic powerhouse. But that was entirely due to the rapid price increase of potash AND, more importantly, hydraulic fracking. As fracking technology improved, it opened up drilling in South Saskatchewan (The Bakken). Within a short time, Sask was producing as much conventional oil as Alberta was. And that resource commanded a pretty high price.

The path to prosperity is not via government, it's through wealth creation. You get that via manufacturing. You get that via resources. And you get that by developing and selling technology. Ontario focused on manufacturing which is in steep decline. Toronto Mike has been to Germany. It's a highly skilled country with a robust economy yet it's socialist. The United States is the opposite yet it's economy has been mired in the mud since 2006. Until someone in Ontario understand this, nothing will change & Ontario will continue to rot away. Toronto and area started being a "warehouse" economy when I was going to University. Nothing has changed.

I don't disagree with many of your points.

Let's start by diversifying the economy by allowing private health care. I don't want to get rid of our public health system but monopolies don't work for the patient or the taxpayer. The single largest expenditure in this province is health. The cost of which is increasing every single year at unsustainable levels. Allowing private firms to provide services like MRI's or CAT scans is a good place to start. People are already crossing the Rainbow Bridge down here in the Niagara Region to pay for a quick MRI in Buffalo. Keep the money here in Ontario.

But Glen is private health care really the solution? The solution to our health care issues is simple. It's called living well.

Take a look around at this society. 60% of us are either overweight or obese. While we've mostly quit smoking, we now ingest all types of processed food made with GMO crops. Type 2 Diabetes, which costs us like $15 billion a year & it's mostly preventable, is rampant. It's entirely hypocritical to blame the health care system for failures while we ourselves fail our own bodies. I was a young kid in the 70's. If you look at my classroom picture there is maybe 1 fat kid. Today, 1/3 of the class is fast. And that doesn't add in the growing number of autistic kids. What happens to these kids in the future? What does the health care system do?

When it comes to politics I've never heard a single politician (outside of a Green Party member) mention "well maybe if we lived healthier it might cost us less". The reason there is runaway spending isn't because of hospital waste it's because of OUR WAIST.

But all of this requires serious structural change. The answer "just work out more" isn't the answer. It requires serious structural change. Let's talk about a serious focus on fitness & healthy living. Let's talk about a food system that focuses on health. Let's talk about schools that sell healthy food instead of fast food. They sell that shit because we cut back the education budget, yet we just end up spending it all (and more) in the health care budget.

As for the Ontario Liberal government, they leave me in awe. What a bunch of fucking crooks. When I read about the deleted emails I snorted. Most people just think they pressed delete and it was gone. But it's WAY more than that. All that email is not only backed up it's archived & stored offsite *usually*. Someone directly commanded their IT department to nuke that stuff.

Ontario politicians are like a broke ass dude who lives pay to pay borrowing from the Cash Store. His solution to his problems isn't to get a new job or more income. It's to buy a small coffee instead of a large. That's EXACTLY where Ontario is..all 3 leaders have no vision and no plan.

It's almost as if Irvine and Glen have united in some symbiotic relationship where they can feed off of each other. Weird.

Didn't want to extend the political debate but AFKAI's last post makes some great points. All 3 parties don't want to go too deep in their platform, as they all see how Mike Harris has been vilified, over Ipperwash, Common Sense revolution etc. So easy to be like many parents are with their kids today, be their buddy and never have to deliver a hard life lesson, like saying no to every groups whim or demand. Nearly beat the dashboard to death when i heard the Working Families commercials the past few days. The public service unions still know who their daddy (or momma) is in the Liberal party, even if they thought the Liberals were being nasty to them in their union negotiations.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but just did a straw poll of research for one of our US suppliers, who are thinking of selling a line of equipment to the Canadian market that must be Electronic Medical Record (EMR) compatible, and discovered on my poll of my contacts that even after all the E Health Scandal and wastage of at least a billion dollars, that there is not one platform/system in use for the province's hospitals?? London Health Sciences uses a US system called Centaur, Ottawa Hospitals uses Telus Medical, and Sunnybrook uses another system. So what was the Billion dollars spent on? Muffins and snacks? If each hospital needs a custom interface, either the end user will pay, or the supplier will opt to not supply the Canadian market. Makes you want to join the cash only or Itex barter economy.

@Corey. Glen and I have a symbiotic relationship because he agreed with a point I made? That's akin to a dude who has a girl smile at him on the street & he's sure she wants to marry him.

@Rick C: That fact that there are multiple systems across hospitals in Ont demonstrates there is no plan. It's like HR using Mac's, Finance using Windows & IT using Linux. It's madness.

PS. It's not the cash only economy dude, it's the bitcoin economy ;-). If you'd like to donate to me, I have a wallet.

I heard Kevin O'Leary talking about Bit Coin the other day, first I ever heard of it. I am not to technologically cutting edge.

@gump, and others who are sick of reading certain user's posts: a reminder that there's a Greasemonkey script for that. I just updated it so that it's pre-set to hide argie and irvine.

If you're like me and feel that their comments contribute nothing but petty bile, hate and discourse to an otherwise wonderful conversation, go ahead and install Greasemonkey and the script. The comment section becomes such a nicer place to be.

Well Lorne, one could easily circumvent your recommended software. Shit with a copy of Kali Linux and a good VPN...oh wait I better not say that.

@RickC

Bitcoin is an interesting currency. It's an open source currency developed by a guy about 4 years ago. There are 21 million bitcoins in circulation. There will never be more. What's cool is that it's actually a real currency, unlike our current monetary system which runs on fiat currency. The value of money actually has no value. It's set by a central bank instead of the market

The Feds don't like bitcoin. It's too easy to use it in the underground in places like Silk Road. I use it for VPN services & other tech stuff. It's entire anonymous.

@Doris: If someone really wants to sockpuppet spam the blog, then oh well. But then that's stepping over a line of acceptable behaviour, and it'd be up to Mike for now.

Yes, hockey in 60 days. I can't wait. My Habs are going to beat your Leafs. You'll see. Now all there is is baseball. Oh well, Diamondbacks won last night, but they still suck though. They're not consistent.

@Irvine - re: the symbiotic comment, I guess I'm just blown away that someone would enable you to post your eye-glazing screeds. Maybe it's just me.

Hey where have the nice people like Blind Dave been lately? Could use some of that amongst all of the self-important lecturing, humblebrags and "Recognize me! Admire me! Validate me!" posts.

It is you Corey. If you objectively step back from your posts you'll see that most of them are MEANT to be incendiary toward me. Case in point is the post above. Someone agreed with me & suddenly we're joined at the hip perhaps with some evil attempt to destroy. As for the "lecturing" it's lecturing because you don't like my opinions. In short, you don't like me & you resent me being on this forum. You've implied repeatedly that I'm the cause for the incessant bickering in this forum. Yet, that bickering was even MORE heated when I wasn't around. Dave got blocked not me.

I often get the feeling you're simply trying to troll me solely to get a rise out of me. Honestly brother, you're not going to. In my professional life I see shit that sometimes wakes me up at night in a cold sweat scared of the dark. You calling me moron or idiot doesn't come close.

You leave me alone dude and I'll not retort. .

And hey Argie and Corey seeing we constantly talk about terrorism, here's one for you. The link below is from "GangstersOut" blog, a criminal blog which focuses on the biker gang problems of the Lower Mainland. The blogger also questions police and the RCMP at times. Whoever he is, he's well versed in law & the underworld in this area. And he's well hidden. It takes a VERY brave soul to make some of the comments he does about any of the bike gangs. I'm sure he's from Surrey.

The post is about the terror plot re: pressure cookers on the Canada Day celebrations in Victoria. What's very interesting is someone screen capped that the suspect had already been charged in March of this year. If you aren't aware, all BC court records are published online.

Here’s an interesting point. A blog reader sends in this screen cap of the online court data base and said look at the dates. March 2 2013 John Stewart Nuttall was charged with conspiracy to commit an indictable offense. There are three charges under the same file number. March 2 2013 he was also charged with knowingly facilitate a terrorist activity. That charge was back in March 2013. Which makes this whole Canada Day bombing plot bullsh*t. June 25 he was charged with possession of explosive substance (Which CSIS gave him) but the initial terrorist charge was back on March 2nd. Suspiciously, this file number has now been removed from the online court database. Now you just see his other past record.

I meant what I said. the LThe Leafs really won't make the playoffs. It will be good to see another Habs cup. That will be wonderful. Just wait. I don't listen to that new Indi Rock. They don't play Bob Seger or John Mellencamp. Never heard of lots of the groups they play.

I happened to be at a gathering of "ex-pats" (Vancouver/Victoria/Halifax/St. John's/Cape Breton) last night that couldn't say enough good about Toronto. I was blushing.
