Al The Royal Pain

Mike, good podcast.

Audio compression and data compression are two different things. You can still have a raw audio file with audio compression. Basically, audio compression compresses the dynamics of the audio making the really quiet parts louder and the really loud parts quieter. It's a very common thing to do to keep things within a certain level. But you should be careful, there is such as thing as too much compression. It sounds like you have a good level of compression set. I'm listening through my computer speakers and everything is nice and clear. Even Rosie, who can sometimes be a little too quiet came across loud and clear.

I've started listening to Zach's podcast as a result of your appearance. It's pretty good.

@ Toronto Mike,

I'm listening to this episode at work on my Calrec console and have it on the meters - you have constant levels of around -20 to -16 dbfs and peaks of -12 to -10. Looks good, sounds good and the final compression settings are great. You don't sound like an accordion which @ Al The Royal Pain mentioned. Live music is a whole different kettle as you are dealing with higher ballistics and a greater noise floor - but he is totally right.

I promise I will bring you the cables to get your music fader. It will be my wedding gift to you.

Rosie has never sounded better :)

Cliché Man

When push comes to shove, it's as easy as 1-2-3.

I haven't listen to the podcast but when I saw Erica Ehm's name mentioned I had to comment.

I could say she's as dumb as a stump but that would be unfair to all stumps.

@ Rosie

Put it on the list.

Is it the "Bolland takes Stanley Cup to Mimico bar" story?

July 4, 2013 @ 4:31 PM

No it has to do with a stick two years ago.
