Humble and Fred's Big Announcement

Humble and Fred's Big AnnouncementSome of you are fans of Humble and Fred's podcast (now at 50 episodes!) and will be interested in this sweet slice of Humble and Fred news.

Humble and Fred have a major announcement to make with regards to a multi-media conglomerate. I've seen the agreement, and it's pretty awesome for a couple of guys who couldn't get a gig on terrestrial radio and decided to roll their own. I'm damn proud I get to help with the rolling and got in on the ground floor.

I'll let Humble and Fred unveil the specifics, something they intend to do in the next couple of weeks. Rest assured it doesn't mean the end of their podcasts, merely a new beginning, and they'll continue to own their content and do their own thing.

hf

Feel free to guess what they'll be announcing. That's always fun.

sirius / xm?

C'mon guys, let's do this together.

There are only so many options:

1. Bell Media
2. Rogers
3. Astral
4. Corus
5. Shaw
6. Quebecor
7. CBC
8. Sirus / XM

That's pretty much it, right?

#4 seems awfully unlikely considering the history, and #3 seems hard to believe.

My money is on #1 or #2... with a maybe to #8.

I think it has to be a Sirius/XM gig. That's really the only avenue where they can continue to truly do their thing. There's lots of stuff on the podcast people love that wouldn't fly on terrestrial radio. Sirius/XM though? Different story.

CQ

They are going to podcast Live from Edgefest this summer? ;)

@CQ

Very funny. I'm more likely to podcast live from Edgefest this summer than they are.

@Justorbs

At the risk of making this guessing game too easy, I'm going to let everyone know it's not Sirius / XM.

@Tony

One of your list of eight is correct. You can eliminate #4 and #8. That narrows it down to 6 companies...

It's Bell or Rogers, since they buy everything I care about.

Maybe it's Bell *and* Rogers!

Jacob

Quebecor realized they own a comedy channel and gave them a spot on Sun News?

Awesome news. I can't wait to hear the official announcement!

I that case I'm thinking it's Astral. They've been giving Humble and Fred a lot of airtime with Moore and on that weekend show. Auditioning perhaps?

Rob

I'm torn between astral and the CBC. Both have had a fair bit of content on the shows ive listened to up to now. The CBC has lots of online content though........ So scratch astral and put me down for CBC.

Hopefully they are retiring.

Does that mean all the volunteer people behind the scenes will be collecting a pay cheque.

Of everyone on the list, Sirius/XM would have been the best one in allowing freedom of expression. Too bad that was knocked off the list.

@Sammi

They'll have freedom of expression. The podcast will remain uncensored.

This exciting deal with the multi-media conglomerate is a huge step in the right direction for the show, but it doesn't get us paid. I don't expect a penny from it.

Mike--- hopefully there will be a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow so you guys can reap the benefits of your hard work and time into this venture.

If you are a regular listener of the podcasts, you get a pretty good idea it is some type of gig with Rogers. Although they appear weekly on an Astral station (1010), they have been very complimentary towards Rogers lately.

Im going to take a guess, its something to do with Iphones/Ipads.....or vonage they have been tight with vonage since the beginning of the podcasts.

Could be Rogers..

They've been pushing a daily podcast of theirs lately (Marek vs Wyshinski)..

Maybe they're looking to expand on that..

Money is on Astral, considering they've launched a new 'comedy' station (Funny 1410 London) and rumour has it they'll slowly be rebranding a handful of their other AM properties over to that format.

Don

#3 for sure. A ready-to-go show that's a perfect fit for The 'Funny' stations, and can be run off-peak on the stations that aren't flipping to Funny (ie: 1010 overnight)

Wow, when's the last time funny and radio went together? They really are pioneers.

January 3, 2012 @ 7:08 AM

WTF

Delta Bingo on Thursdays?

I hear the big game is played via link in halls across Ontario.

Talk about yer multi-media!

Rogers will broadcast the recording of the podcast. Much like Sportsnet does with Prime Time Sports or Hockey Central.

My $0.02

At this rate we will all be dead by the time they announce it.

Hell, they might be dead by then.

Considering they're going to be on BT tomorrow (on the Rogers-owned citytv), I'd say this has to be with Rogers.

Finally both have decided to undergo a full sexual orientation transition to female.

It will be so much easier on all of us. Trust me.
