Consumers Distributing Catalogue

consumersWe had a great discussion a few years ago about Consumers Distributing. Consumers Distributing is where I'd go, armed with my Consumers Distributing catalogue, with my wishlist circled.

Inevitably, most of what I'd want would be out of stock, but once in a while that coveted Citizen boom box would actually be there.

Here's a great find from Retrontario for fellow fans of the old Consumers Distributing outlets.

I bought my mom the Bread Warmer for Christmas when I was about 10. Hiked it on the TTC to the Plaza across from the Golden Mile in Scarborough with my friend to pick it out. Of course it was out of stock which about 75% of the items in the catalogue seemed to be LOL.
Thanks for the memory Mike.

My Dad had a dilemma in 1988 (when I was 14) as to what to get me for Christmas. He and his wife headed to the Consumers Distributing in London to try to figure it out. They came up with the idea to get all the girls a bear. There were 5 of us so that was the easiest gift as there were many choices. I was lucky enough to get the North Pole 88 Nicki Bear in a bag with his little bow tie and Christmas hat on. The bear sat on my bed as decoration and one night I actually slept with it. That was 24 years ago! I have slept with a Nicki Bear ever since. I have had to search high and low but I have found 4 Nicky Bears since then.(The latest one I found yesterday) Let me tell you the people in the hospital thought I was a little weird that the bear that I HAD to have at the hospital was for me and not my newborn babies! I miss the store and the time spent looking at the catalogue. Our neighbourhood store is now a Rogers....not so much fun.
