My Father's Day Gift From Canadian Tire

I'm pretty sure we haven't hit Father's Day yet, because my kids haven't said a word about it, but I've already received a pretty kick ass Father's Day gift.  It arrived this afternoon from Canadian Tire.

Since I was more than happy to give one of you a $199 lithium-ion grass trimmer / edger (details unveiled June 15), Canadian Tire was nice enough to send me a gift I truly needed.  Hop in my time machine and I'll explain more...

My wife and I moved into our first place together in the summer of 1996.  It was an apartment near Yonge and Bloor, and one of my first purchases in the new place was a socket set with screwdrivers and a few other essential tools.  This thing was kept in a grey plastic case and was on sale for $34.99 at the nearby Canadian Tire.  I've been using that set ever since, even though it's now missing a few pieces and a few other pieces are damaged.  I really needed a new one.

And now, thanks to Canadian Tire, I have one.  And not just any socket set, I'm the proud owner of a shiny new Stanley 149-piece Professional Grade Black Socket Set. This set not only looks cool, but it includes a quick-release ratcheting combo wrench set, six combination wrenches and ten bits.  It really is awesome.

I'm off to find something to repair.
