Gordon Lightfoot Cover Songs

musicI stumbled upon this list of the top ten Gordon Lightfoot cover songs by David Schmeichel of the Winnipeg Sun.

  1. For Lovin' Me - Peter, Paul & Mary
  2. Ribbon of Darkness - Marty Robbins
  3. Early Morning Rain - Bob Dylan
  4. Cotton Jenny - Anne Murray
  5. Early Morning Rain - Elvis Presley
  6. Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald - Rheostatics
  7. Song For a Winter's Night - Sarah McLachlan
  8. Black Day In July - Tragically Hip
  9. Sundown - Ron Sexsmith
  10. If You Could Read My Mind - Johnny Cash

By the way, "Sundown" by Gordon Lightfoot was the number one song in the U.S.A. on the day I was born. It's a fact.

I really like Gordon Lightfoot. I consider him to be better than people like Bob Dylan & others. Of all people, it was my sister who introduced me to Gordon's music. She had a best of album lying in her collection (and the rest is Culture Club, George Michael, Stevie Wonder, Belinda Carlyle, Bangles and other stuff). She hardly listens to music now, ever since she started her own family and doesn't really like Western music much, probably cause she doesn't have the time. Anyway, from her tape, I got hooked to "Wreck Of the Edmund Fitzgerald" & "Sundown", I also play those two songs on my mp3 player all the time.
