The Cosmic Ballet Continues...

The Cosmic Ballet Continues

Tonight there will be a total eclipse of the moon.  A lunar eclipse happens when the moon passes through the shadow of the Earth, which stretches far out into space. For this event to occur, Earth must be precisely aligned between the sun and the moon.  The eclipse officially begins at 20:06 EST, when the moon edges into the penumbral shadow. The moon will start to dim, but ever so slightly.

Here's the timeline for observation...

21:14: Moon enters Earth's dark umbral shadow
22:23: Totality begins
23:04: Mid-eclipse
23:45: Totality ends
00:54: Moon leaves the umbra

Enjoy the show.  The next one isn't until March 3, 2007.
