Maple Leafs 1, Mighty Ducks 5
Back in high school, I bought Led Zeppelin IV for "Black Dog", "Rock And Roll" and "Stairway to Heaven", but I stayed for the melodic tones of "Going to California". Going to California didn't fare well for the Leafs last night. Lets hope things improve tonight in L.A.
As Sports Illustrated celebrates their 50th anniversary, they can boast about having printed 2,548 covers. Of the 2,548 covers, not a single one involves the blue and white. You'd think a Maple Leaf would make appear on the cover once by accident. It's not an anti-Toronto thing. The Raptors have appeared on a couple of covers, the Blue Jays have been featured seven times and George Chuvalo has made three. I find it unbelievable that one of the most beloved and prestigious franchises in NHL history can be completely ignored by SI in this manner. Over the past 50 years, the Leafs have won four Stanley Cups. This completely dispells the theory of the Sports Illustrated Jinx. No covers and still a 37 year drought!
