Make the final... Vic Rauter, Canada's Voice of Curling, will retire following the World Men’s Curling Championship in Ogden, Utah.
Vic Rauter was a very early hire by TSN in 1985, but as you'll hear in episode 168 of Toronto Mike'd, he was approached by TSN’s vice president of production Jim Thompson who wondered if he knew curling.
In that epic #deepdive into Vic Rauter's media career, you'll also learn the origin of his "make the final" catch phrase and hear about his interaction with Ron Burgundy, the many sports he's called and his thoughts on the unfortunate corporatization of sports media.
Vic Rauter was also a huge fan of 1050 CHUM when it was a top 40 heavyweight in this city, so it was a true delight when he returned to kick out the jams with me. You must hear this episode 343 of Toronto Mike'd.
I thoroughly enjoyed my chats with Vic over the years, and I congratulate him on retirement and wish him many happy experiences after over four decades at TSN.
