Anecdotally, it seems most gravitate to those first 7 albums. That's not to say there weren't big radio hits for TTH in the 2000s, but things were starting to taper off commercially. If I told you to kick out a The Tragically Hip jam, it probably wouldn't be from We Are The Same, Now for Plan A or Man Machine Poem.
But this post is about a song that appears on We Are the Same, one of the Bob Rock productions. It's easy to skip the Bob Rock era, especially after watching the 4-episode docuseries The Tragically Hip: No Dress Rehearsal. But there it is, track #6, clocking in at an epic 9:27.
Are you going through something?
We're all going though something. The older I get, the more this line resonates with me. Everyone you meet is going through something. I'm going through something. Gord reminds us he's going through something, too.
Don't you wanna see how it ends?
Yes. Yes I do.
And Athabasca depends.
