Dick Van Dyke is turning 100 this week. Hopefully this post doesn't jinx him. Just kidding, jixes don't exist!
A few years ago Dick was making the media round promoting a book with tips for living a long life. The big one was to keep moving. I'm big on this one.
I like to keep moving. At a concert, I like to stand. When I have to be somewhere, I vastly prefer biking or walking there, if possible. I want to mow my own lawns, rake my own leaves, shovel my own snow. I want to move.
There's a sentiment I remember from the film Up In The Air. This idea that if you keep moving, death can't catch ya. In this film (and moreso in the book) it's referring to flights, but the spirit is the same. So long as you're moving, you're living, as opposed to dying.
Be a Dick. Keep moving.
