A Unique Tale of Tool Live In The Sand

Earlier this month in Punta Cana, Tool played the inaugural Live In The Sand festival where they promised they'd deliver "two unique sets." If you asked me what the means, I'd assume it means no song would be performed twice over the two days. In actuality, four songs were played both nights.

March 7

  1. "Stinkfist"
  2. "Fear Inoculum"
  3. "Rosetta Stoned"
  4. "Pneuma"
  5. "Jambi"
  6. "Schism"
  7. "The Grudge"
  8. "The Flood"
  9. "Invincible"
  10. "Vicarious" (first time since 2020)

March 8

  1. "Fear Inoculum"
  2. "Ænema"
  3. "Rosetta Stoned"
  4. "Pneuma"
  5. "Jambi"
  6. "Descending"
  7. "Chocolate Chip Trip"
  8. "Intolerance"
  9. "Swamp Song"

Some Tool fans are considering suing the band for false advertising. This got me thinking about the time I bought tickets for a show that promised one thing but wasn't that at all, but in my case, it was a huge bonus.

Way back in 2012 I attended a Public Enemy concert that was promoted as Public Enemy playing It Takes A Nation Of Millions To Hold Us Back in its entirety. In actuality, Public Enemy played everything you'd ever want from the band, including most of Fear of a Black Planet.

I'm sure Tool's lawyers will argue "unique" setlists merely refers to the order, but we all know the inference is no-repeats. Repeating 4 songs in Punta Cana is bullshit.
