What Are Mediumistic Abilities

A medium is a person trained in tapping from nonphysical energy to understand and bridge the gap between the living and the deceased in the physical world. The term ‘medium’ is often used interchangeably with ‘psychics’, but there are major differences between them. To simply put it, all mediums are psychic, but not all psychics are mediums.

The main difference is that while a psychic utilizes the energy from the physical world in understanding certain aspects of life, a medium can use energies of both dimensions (physical and nonphysical). This provides them with more insight from the other side compared to a common medium, which often tends to be unreliable.

If you want to have a basic idea about mediums and their abilities, this article will give you a basic rundown of everything you need to know.

Clairvoyance

Clairvoyance is the oldest and most commonly known medium skill that most people know about. Also known as ‘clear seeing,’ clairvoyance is an ability that has been recorded across most cultures across human history. This is the medium's ability to see anything that is not physically present in the material world. Clairvoyance has also seen a growing interest in ESP.

Occult and spiritual experts often refer to this as the ‘mind’s eye,’ and such seeing abilities may include visions, premonitions, or encounters with spirits. This art was almost lost after the Renaissance age took off in Italy in the mid 15th century, but was brought back by the Society for Psychical Research in London back in 1882 after which it spread all over Europe again.

Clairaudience

Also known as ‘clear hearing,’ clairaudience is the ability to hear voices of spirits or deceased persons and is often used by both mediums and psychics. Some mediums even claim to have conversations with spirit beings like any typical exchange between individuals, which many consider questionable as the characteristics of a clairaudience often match those of people with schizophrenia.

However, mediums can quickly erase doubts if they demonstrate the ability to know a particular piece of information about their client from a deceased spirit. Clairaudience mediums also tend to be more sensitive to spiritual signs than normal individuals.

Clairsentience

Clairaudience can be best described as telepathic communication with the dead. The term is also known as ‘clear feeling’ by many experts and is described as the ability to sense both the physical and mental attributes of a spirit’s presence.

The medium might feel the presence of a spirit through touch, smell, temperature change, etc., as evidenced in sessions conducted by different spiritual and psychic organizations like Kasamba. Clairsentient individuals often receive messages from deceased souls fairly straightforwardly with minimal wording and phrasing.

Claircognizance

Claircognizance is the ability to intuit things about people and the future with some help from spirits. This ability is also known as ‘clear knowing” and is the ability to know something without receiving it through a normal or psychic sense. Most mediums refer to this as an intuitive way of ‘just knowing.’

The ability of claircognizance differs from the other medium abilities because it is directly transmitted into a medium’s brain before any other of the five human senses processes spiritual energy or presence. Claircognizance allows individuals to sense good or bad things about the people they interact with much like hypersensitive animals like dogs and cats.

Clairgustance

Clairgustance is probably the rarest of all medium abilities and probably the least useful unless you possess it yourself. Known as ‘clear tasting,’ it can receive taste impressions from a spirit. While this is not a popular attribute associated with mediums, some experts have indicated receiving messages from food sources or other items they have tasted.

Even if clairgustance does provide messages from spirits of the deceased, it’s probably the least useful of all the medium abilities due to its nature. Nevertheless, it still is classified as a medium ability. The ability of clairgustance isn’t limited to food only- it can also be triggered by objects, places, and people as well.
