Niel Scobie just tipped me off to a fun fact I did not know. The first hip hop single in Canadian music history is Ladies Delight by Mr. Q.
Mr. Q was Jay W. McGee. I write "was" because sadly Jay McGee died of COVID on January 8, 2021.
There's some great detail here, including the fact Ladies Delight was released way back in 1979, well before Michie Mee, Maestro Fresh Wes or Dream Warriors.
