Happy Friday All.

Happy Cheryl's birthday week of celebration.

December 14, 2018 @ 8:02 AM

Cheryl Traub

I'm not first. Well, who cares. I found this one right away which is good. My Suns finally won a game. It's about time. My Habs also won, but my Coyotes lost. Well, Barfalo had to beat my Coyotes. My birthday is over now. My birthday week is coming to an end. Oh well. Good things come to an end.

December 14, 2018 @ 8:12 AM

I hope you had a good birthday week Cheryl!

And missing you Bsmntdwllr!

The Raptors are the best team in the NBA. I can't believe I just typed that sentence.

First off, thanks to everyone who posted comments of support and hoped for a speedy return, much appreciated!! I had a lot of messy personal crap goin' on in addition to my ongoing frustrations regarding my largely anonymous critics. Look, the proprietor is fan of my 'work' (can't really understand why!) and there are a brave handful of others who will admit so in print, but I can also acknowledge that there is probably a somewhat silent majority who don't feel that way and that is also fine. I would only hope that from this point on such folks are a little more original in their criticism/derision and don't hide their contempt/scorn under the dreaded anonymous handle. I post under "bsmntdwllr73" because it is an apt description of my unfortunate circumstances and it is a way for me to try and take some ownership of that. Those few personal attacks about being a leech and such were not only most uncalled for but couldn't be any further from the truth. Sure, I wish that things had turned out differently for me, but as a somewhat little-known singer(!) once sang "You Can't Always Get What You Want!!") Believe me, no one in my position ever imagined that they would end up this way. The world was supposedly once meant to be my oyster, but then again, I was really never much of a fisherman. Damn you, Captain Highliner!!

December 14, 2018 @ 11:50 AM

Muffdvr73 makes his triumphant return ! Glad to have you back.

December 14, 2018 @ 11:52 AM

Thank you, but again, really not worthy of that particular designation by even the slimmest of
margins! Now if you had lead with blueballs73, well, that one I could probably HANDLE with only
the most noblest of intentions!!!

Apparently, Mrs Eastwood has left us :(

Thanks to you as well! And here is a great book pick for you if it is not
already on your obviously keen literary radar: "The Library Book" by Susan
Orlean. Hmmm, I can't possibly even begin to imagine why I would ever
bother to recommend a tome with that particular title! Anyway, at its essence
it is an in-depth examination of a very destructive fire at the Los Angeles
Public Library in the spring of 1986 and the subsequent search (for) and lengthy
trial of its chief arson suspect. This book really resonated with me on so many
different levels, that mere words can't express my admiration for its author's
terrific prose. Her previous works include "The Orchid Thief", which served as
the basis for that great Spike Jonze film "Adaptation" in late 2002. My favourite
film from that year, and it featured a peak mid-period Nicolas Cage performance
amongst its many other cinematic delights. Hope some astute director picks up
this project as well.

LOL! That's hilarious!

At least the Ann Rohmer fixation lead to one of the best episodes of your podcast. What a great episode that was, I miss her so much on CP24 now after she came across as such a sweetheart on your show.

The only thing she appears on now is that ad for some product I can't remember.

Hopefully she comes back for a KOTJ episode in 2019.

twins from bolton

A friend & I decided tonight to have an early Xmas dinner together at a new venue in Bolton - Chucks Roadhouse which opened a few weeks ago.
What a disaster & never seen anything like it. Walked in & 2 greeters saying take a seat any where you want. 10 minutes later still no server as most are young girls waiting on tables with guys their age. Too busy socializing.
Finally I said "hello is their any body out there". Somebody came & took our drink order & we said can we order our food now & she said I will be back shortly for that. 5 min. later we got our FLAT warm beer & took our order for food, an appetizer & 2 entrees which were sent at same time 5 minutes later. No plates, napkins, cutlery, or condiments given.
The bun was stale, fries not cooked enough & burgers were not cooked enough,
Told server when I paid about everything & she said I apologize but we are still in learning mode.
So much for Chucks Roadhouse in Bolton as you will be probably closed shortly.
I'm not an A@@hole about this but if I get food poisoning tonight, Look our Chuck.

December 14, 2018 @ 8:54 PM

Rob J

I landed here to comment on another issue, but saw your Yelp-like Chuck's review and just wanted to counter it by saying that when my extended family invaded the Chuck's Roadhouse in Ingersoll (trust me, it's a place), we had outstanding service and everyone was more than satisfied with the food and drinks. But I hear you, in that there are few things worse than a lousy sit-down restaurant visit!

December 14, 2018 @ 9:03 PM

Just saw 1 of my all time fave movies.
"how to do thank a person from taking crayons to perfume".
What movie is it - a quiz.

My Cavs lost again last night, but my Coyotes managed to win in overtime although they were losing through most of the game. My Nets managed to win. At least my Cavs won on my birthday. Well, now that my birthday week is over, there's this thing called Christmas. It's too fricken commercialized. There's no such thing as Santa Claus. No man can go down a chimney. That's just a bunch of hogwash. I don't have problems with the baby it's cold outside song except that I just don't like it, but no reason for it to be banned.

December 15, 2018 @ 7:14 AM

So the bashing of Christmas starts. A day which makes millions and millions of children happy around the globe gets bashed cause someone starves for attention, and sadly gets it !

December 15, 2018 @ 10:03 PM

Jeez, Jeff Blair still won't vote for Mike Mussina for the MLB Hall of Fame, and it has to be his ongoing temper tantrum over Moose "showing up" Gaston at the 1993 All Star Game. As long as writer-voters hold these types of grudges, the voting process is flawed. Also no Edgar Martinez or Curt Schilling. He only voted for 5 players...if Blair only sees 5 Hall of Famers on the list of 35 choices (you can for for 10 max), he's not to be taken very seriously.

December 15, 2018 @ 11:16 PM

My Browns won last night. Yes, the game was on last night and they won by a point, but at least they won. I told you the Browns are the best. They're winning the Superbowl. My Habs also won although they were losing. My Suns won their second in a row. Well, today is filled with sports. I have my Coyotes, Nets, Cavs as well as my Ravens and Cardinals. Lots of sports today. There really is no Santa. Face it, it's parents who fill the stockings. That's what it is.

Hard to believe Cheryl the Grinch doesn't believe in Santa Claus even after receiving her demanded birthday money from the mail with them on strike.

Not the Green Giant, but perhaps the Incredible Hulk? In the new Marvel Cinematic Universe

H.o.E. - Grinchy 101. My mom has always called the neighbours if something bothers her.

I love seeing kids play, all I ask is they stay safe and don't hit our cars, or play around our cars (which they did this summer but I talked to them about it).

December 17, 2018 @ 10:20 AM

So the new Mary Poppins sequel opens on Wednesday and it got me to thinking about the nude and
naughty onscreen past of one of its co-stars, Emily Mortimer. In both 2002's "Lovely And Amazing" and 2003's "Young Adam" very little was left to the imagination, so it's probably gonna be a little
bit distracting (for me) watching her as an all-grown-up, fully-clothed Jane Banks!! Very much akin
to the manner in which Ewan McGregor used to literally let it all hang-out in nearly ever non-Star Wars prequel flick (including "Young Adam"!) back in the day, and then wound up starring as adult "Christopher Robin" this past summer. I guess Disney executives are a lot more permissive and forgiving than Uncle Walt was back in the day?!? P.S., hope this flick turns out to be more like
"Batman Returns" and less like that dreadful Christ parable "Superman Returns"!!

I read that the average Ontario shopper will spend $800 over the Christmas season.

That seems really low to me, maybe people are embarrassed to admit how much they really spend.

December 17, 2018 @ 2:54 PM

Rob J

@Urooj Islam
The low total may not include pre-orders for Raptors and Leafs’ championship merchandise.

December 17, 2018 @ 3:05 PM

And perhaps some long-term, installment payments for one made-to-order 2019 World Series
Party Chief Wahoo cake?!? Hopefully this long-promised event will finally happen late next October
or early November. Consider this a belated simple Chewbacca (sorry, Chanukkah) wish for an
otherwise largely-holiday-unaffiliated former Hebrew school dropout!!

First time I saw Emily Blunt was in a little-known British film called "My Summer Of Love" back in
the summer of 2005. And, yes, she also managed to doff her bikini top for some much-appreciated
sunbathing in said flick!! So sue me for noticing, but I was still a very long way from the often ancillary joys of coupledom way back then

December 17, 2018 @ 4:54 PM

After today's Mark Daly retrospective podcast, It should be fun to see how many people in the comments pretend that the most they heard Mark Daly's voice wasn't during the infamous Friday Night Baby Blue softcore films on City TV.

December 17, 2018 @ 5:15 PM

Urooj Islam

Holy crap, I never realized how young Mark Dailey was when he passed away, only 57!

That's almost 10 years younger than the average Toronto commenter.

December 17, 2018 @ 5:22 PM

Going on 46 (next May), so very happy to help bring the alleged average commenter age down just a
wee bit!! P.S., my age might also be higher than my current IQ score, and it is definitely stronger than
my most-troubling EQ rating.

December 17, 2018 @ 5:28 PM

@Urooj Islam

I sometimes wonder about the age of some TM commenters. The passionate defenders of terrestrial radio and its random-vanilla personalities always strike me as elderly.

Not ashamed to admit I'll be 49 this Sunday (Festivus, so the annual TM-Elvis tradition serves as a great present).

December 17, 2018 @ 5:43 PM

@Rob J
Despite all the other options available, I still have a soft-spot in my crusty Luddite heart
for terrestrial radio, especially when it is done correctly (ears of the beholder at this point,
perhaps!). Sadly not too much of that easily found these days. Oh, and happy birthday in

December 17, 2018 @ 5:48 PM

Rob J

To each his own, of course, and thank you.

December 17, 2018 @ 5:51 PM

@Rob J
Oh, you were totally correct with your previous observation/comment. My continued interest in
terrestrial radio basically comes down to the limited amount of foreground programming still
airing in spots (Alan Cross, Jeff Woods, etc.). Musical selection and most of the commentary
is otherwise severely lacking...

December 17, 2018 @ 5:55 PM

Well, very disgusting game last night. My Habs were rested and ready to play. Well, didn't seem like it. Bruins beat them and shut them down. Habs kept turning the damn puck over. Not good. My Suns did win though. Great win by my Suns. My Cavs and Nets will win tonight as well as my Coyotes. Real treat on Thursday. My Habs play my Coyotes. Those are the teams in the finals. Habs and Coyotes will make it. I know they will.

@Rob J

What a great day to have your birthday on, the same day as the best Toronto Mike'd show of the year. Hopefully elvis gives you a birthday shoutout.

I am soon to be 32, definitely part of the last generation raised on local radio and TV personalities. I feel out of place, both on this site and amongst my peers because I feel like such an outlier by caring about this stuff at my age. Ha.

December 18, 2018 @ 11:58 AM

Jody Thornton

Well the other day, I made mention of Sondra Locke passing away (sad to see there was no mention of it here, oh well - maybe it's age. I'm 48, soon to be 49 in April)

Of somewhat bigger notoriety, Penny Marshall of Laverne and Shirley fame has also died today.

December 18, 2018 @ 2:14 PM

Rob J

@Urooj Islam

At least you have the advantage of being a fan of the local teams as a way to feel a kinship with others. But yeah, I don't doubt you're one of the younger 'regulars'. When we've all joined Penny Marshall in the great beyond, you'll still be commenting away!

December 18, 2018 @ 4:10 PM

Toronto go for 100 (NOT) with 94 homicides this year already a record & still 13 days left in 2018.

Most people count down to get to Jan. 1. Andrew counts up. If he even pretended to have sympathy for the victims and their families in his posts instead of braying disingenuously about raw numbers without any context, I'd give him some credit.

December 18, 2018 @ 7:15 PM

@Rob J
I guess U didn't read my last line on my post. Totally Disgusting & Shameful.

Something Toronto is not proud of.

December 18, 2018 @ 8:46 PM

Toronto Mike Verified as the defacto Toronto Mike

@Rob J

In my experience, those kinds of murder count downs come from people who were born and raised in Toronto, decided to move their family to the suburbs, and seek validation they made the right decision.

December 18, 2018 @ 9:03 PM

Rob J

That makes perfect sense. It's an incredibly safe city by population and those who keep harping on it have to turn a blind eye to murders literally everywhere else in the country. My parents in Niagara only watch CTV News at 6:00 and they think the city is drowning in a river of blood.

December 18, 2018 @ 10:09 PM

Thank God Cheryl didn't pick GTA murders as one of her favourite teams.

December 18, 2018 @ 10:38 PM

I think she generally roots for teams outside of the 416 telephone area code. (I wish there was a shorter way to say that last part! Oh well).

December 18, 2018 @ 11:41 PM

Well, my Cavs and Nets both won last night. That's great. My Cavs won by only a point and my Nets won by five points. If my Cavs don't make the playoffs, my Nets will. My Coyotes lost though. That's no good at all. They lost, but tomorrow is the real treat. My Habs at my Coyotes. Make it go to overtime. My Habs and Coyotes will be in the finals. I think my Habs are long overdue for a cup.

December 19, 2018 @ 7:07 AM

"Thank God Cheryl didn't pick GTA murders as one of her favourite teams."

This is why Urooj is my favorite. Brings it. Every day :)

December 19, 2018 @ 8:19 AM

Wouldn't it be more correct to label them as the "GTA Murderers"?!? And perhaps Drake
should have his 'talented' squad of ghostwriters conjure up a 'tune' 'bout this most
harrowing situation? After all, more than a couple of extended members from his over-hyped
posse lost their lives to less than random gunfire this year. #chalkoutlinesinthe6ix!! (Totally meant
with disappointed sarcasm and not spiteful glee despite appearances and previous track record.)

December 19, 2018 @ 9:44 AM

Question from an inexperienced non-gambler: Do games that go into overtime have any
real bearing on any eventual winning payout(s)? Please note: I don't watch any sporting events, I only watch the occasional movies and television shows about them!

December 19, 2018 @ 9:49 AM

Rob J

I doubt we want to start ranking our favourite commenters. It’ll end the same way the “All in the Family” episode did in which they all played the board game ‘Group Therapy’

December 19, 2018 @ 9:59 AM

@Rob J
Well, based on the (too!) frequent criticism and derision aimed in my general direction, I truly don't
think that I need to really worry about posting very high on any hypothetical list in that regard!

December 19, 2018 @ 10:06 AM

Sadly I did notice the critical comments, but I also read many many more from the TM Universe sending support and positivity your way. I hope you took those sentiments to heart!

December 19, 2018 @ 11:09 AM

December 19, 2018 @ 6:01 PM

Just finished watching "Into the Spider-Verse" and it is indeed the Spider-Person(!!) flick I've been
waiting (for) since 1978 to enjoy!! Not exactly as true to canon as the Fox TV cartoon version in the mid-nineties or the extensive comic crossovers of the past few years, but well worth the money and time spent. Haven't really enjoyed any cinematic Spidey material since the second one in 2004. The two Andrew Garfield attempts were putrid and while Tom Holland hit it out of the park in that third Captain America flick, didn't at all care for the ABC Afterschool Special vibe of last year's "Homecoming" reboot. Friendly tip to all those who are planning to watch it during the festive season: Stay for the entire credits as there is an additional sequel set-up scene afterwards. At my screening only a handful of folks remained at the end. They must be new to how these superhero flicks work. Fingers crossed that Aquaman won't be as horrible as its early reviews made it out to be. Fat chance on that score!!!

Tonight is the big treat. My Habs at my Coyotes. It will be close and go into overtime. Habs are due for a cup though. My two favourite teams are going to do battle. It's going to be fantastic.

December 20, 2018 @ 7:18 AM

No mention of the Habs blowing it last night Cheryl ? :)

December 20, 2018 @ 8:16 AM

Raps won by a small margin, and a last two minutes foul. But you know what, I will take it cause those refs were WILDIN' on some bullllllshit calls. And nothing for Norm being elbowed in the face.

December 20, 2018 @ 9:07 AM

I'll try to give it that old non-college (dropuout!!) try, but I'm completely useless when it comes
to using my tablet despite repeated tutorials from several different people! Plus, I'm an absolute
klutz and very clumsy when it comes to accessing and utilizing the virtual keyboard. Real shame
that I totally missed out on that whole Blackberry phenomenon, 'cause from afar I always admired its
raised keyboard!! Gee, I sure do miss the days of the Etch-A-Sketch and the Abacus!

December 20, 2018 @ 9:51 AM

With some helpful assistance from TM, I was able to hear the bonus, unnumbered episode
regarding a recent Dean Blundell podcast attack on our most humble content provider. Never
having been a fan of Blundolt, can't say that I was at all surprised by anything that came out of his
mouth. His Ed mcMahon-aping fartcatching sidekick was slightly more in range of a true human
being (guesswork on my part, as I'm from off-world!), but this fellow Zeke(?) largely-served to enable
his buddy's constant barrage of bravado and bullshit. LAME!! Pretty sure (as TM also remarked!) that
Dean LITERALLY needs to look up the word LITERALLY immediately!! Maybe also check in on HYPOCRISY as well. Well worth seeking out before it eventually(?) disappears. And in the immortal
words of those classic Bay Bloor Radio ads, "IF YOU MISS IT, YOU MISS IT!!!"

December 20, 2018 @ 10:55 AM

bsmntdwllr73 - this episode is exactly why i suggested the tablet. maybe in time you'd get used to it, they do have keyboards that can plug in or maybe you could find a stylus???

i am in agreement with your analysis of the episode, and Zeke tried to reframe it but by the end that didn't help much. I know exactly why Mike did the episode and while it may not be my style, it makes a lot of sense to address it.

December 20, 2018 @ 12:46 PM

How does this hack Blundell keep getting hired. Listening to your podcast with clips from his, he’s clearly the same guy whose ego far outweighs his talent. How Tod is still on the air is a mystery for another time.

December 20, 2018 @ 1:17 PM

Blundell's a fucking dirtbag.

Always has been.

His professional and personal failures are just karma gleefully playing along.

December 20, 2018 @ 2:35 PM

I emailed TM privately as I thought he wanted to keep the episode on the down-low, but since others have weighed in, I give Mike permission to post it here, if he wants. Needless to say, it echoes the above sentiments.

weighing in as well... I really don't think you can blame alcohol at all. He is definitely not a 'changed' man.
I don't think it is even worth trying to rebut any of his 'comments'. I truly hope H+F don't have him on their show given the shit said about them. Not really sure why H was gushing on about him.

Daren Millard is writing/podcasting for Dean Blundell's website? What the heck?

I was wondering where he went, I thought he was moving to Vegas to join the Golden Knights TV crew or something.

Whoa, are Leaf media/fans even allowed to pretend to cheerlead for other teams?? As an NHL Gamecentre Live subscriber, the most important job requirement league-wide (with a few exceptions) is full and abiding homeristic jingoism.

I heard that VGK rumour, too. Not true, apparently. I believe Sportsnet just let him go... If he's aligning himself with that brand, things must be pretty desperate.

Yeah, maybe that Vegas rumour was something his agent or he himself leaked out hoping something else hockey media related would pop up?

Like you said, after he ended up with Blundell, it was obvious Sportsnet fired him because who in the world would leave Sportsnet to work for a fly by night operation like Dean Blundell dot com?
