Sorry Cheryl! I’m first! 😀

June 29, 2018 @ 8:00 AM

Beatts

Congrats LieveFamke!

Curious, what teams do YOU think will be in the world series?

June 29, 2018 @ 8:04 AM

LieveFamke

@beatts, what’s the World Series?

June 29, 2018 @ 8:06 AM

Cheryl

Well, I'm not first. I had trouble finding this open Mike. I finally found it. My Diamondbacks won last night. That's great. They shut out the Marlins. My Orioles lost again though. My Indians were off last night. The Diamondbacks and Indians are going to the World Series. I know they will. Trust me, and there will be a World Series party. I will invite Franky Lindor since he is on this blog. Is Edwin Encarnacion here as well?

June 29, 2018 @ 8:12 AM

Rick

Happy Canada everyone. It's going to be one scorcher of a weekend. Looking forward to the Argentina-France soccer match tomorrow!

Really not happy about this heat. Humidex values in the high 30's and 40's is just disgusting. Thank god for a/c.

LieveFamke only speaks soccer.

@Beatts

Did you listen to the Dart Guy episode yet? I want to know if it's as horrible as you thought it would be. It was actually a fun 1:45 in the room!

June 29, 2018 @ 9:06 AM

@TorontoMike, 100% accurate!!! Although it is very difficult to follow when we are in the US for vacation!

Two important CD releases today: The multi-disc , 31st anniversary edition of G N'R's "Appetite
For Destruction" and the (reunion) orchestral greatest hits release by the original line-up of A Flock
of Seagulls "Ascension." Sorry, Spoons fans, no Gord Deppe guitar heroics on that one!!

@TO Mike: Still working my way through the Dart Guy ep, but yes I did hear my question. Thank you!

@Beatts
Your suggestion above reminds me of that classic SCTV skit in which John Houseman (Robin W.)
reads the phone book! And Mike should totally do this while recording in an old school, working
phone booth, if one could actually be found at all!! Where would Superman changes clothes today
if he ever managed to cross over from the funny pages?!?

Just a gut feel:
Tavares will sign with the Leafs.
Josh Donaldson, Tulo & Osana will never play for the Jays again.
Mark Hunter could be the GM for the Habs going forward,

What a weird holiday, stores and LCBO are open on July 1 st, and Monday is the stat?
I can't recall past years how it was done, but I can't remember anything from last week.

June 29, 2018 @ 9:41 PM

Cheryl

What a night. Baseball really sucked. My Orioles, Indians, and Diamondbacks all lost. This really really sucks. Well, it's hard to exercise a lot when it's so hot. I don't like being out in the extreme heat, but at least we don't have to worry about snow storms and ice storms. Anyway, my World Series party will be after the World Series, maybe the weekend after so Franky Lindor can make it. Hopefully Edwin Encarnacion can come as well.

I was just verbally accosted on the Queen Streetcar by yet another
of those mental-health-deficient individuals greatly let down by our once
world class health system. This wackjob, when not aggressively shadow-
boxing with himself, started loudly berating me by repeatedly calling me out/
mocking me (not incorrectly, mind you!) as 'FAT BOY!', and then virulently
insisted that I was a 'Motherf@$cking Go@k cop' and that 'I should just
try something with him!!' Good thing that my ride was only a two stop quickie
to the library. Sad to admit, but I think that this brief hostile exchange might
turn out to be the highlight of my weekend, what with the two day closure of
the library tomorrow and Monday. P.S., the one thing going through my head
during this incident was that part in Silverchair's "Tomorrow" where Daniel Johns
sings 'Fat Boy, wait til tomorrow.' Safe to say, it's probably a good thing I kept my
mouth shut, at least until I got off the streetcar and swore a profane blue streak
at my mouthy assailant! Not that anyone would ever mistake me for an OG verbal
assassin!! Hmmm, I wonder if this is the first time Silverchair have been name-checked
on here?!?

@dale

Hmm. Agree with you on the Jays about Josh, Tulo & Osuna. Could even be a major house cleaning but I do not have much faith in the current management to do it properly.

As for Tavares, I'd say Lightning or stay with NYI if Lou can convince him they will turn it around. He wants to win, so it would be a punch in the gut to see him in Boston, but that too is a possibility.

Mark Hunter with the Habs? I'd never thought of that. Can he speak Quebecois? If so, it could happen.

Happy Canada Day everyone. Stay safe!

The Federal Holidays Act says:

July 1, not being a Sunday, is a legal holiday and shall be kept and observed as such throughout Canada under the name of "Canada Day".

When July 1 is a Sunday, July 2 is a legal holiday and shall be kept and observed as such throughout Canada under the name of "Canada Day"

I work in retail and I think a lot of customers are going to be confused. They're going to be calling us tomorrow assuming we're closed but asking if we're open and then they're going to be showing up on Monday assuming we're open but we'll be closed.

I also don't remember it happening in past years but apparently it has!

Baseball sucked last night. My Indians, Orioles, and Diamondbacks all lost. They better all win today. Losing twice in a row is no good. So Bob Seger is on this blog as well. Why are so many celebrities popping up on this blog. Franky, please let my Indians win. They need to win. Happy Canada Day. Oh Canada should be left the way it was. Take God out of it and put that extra Oh Canada back in. Star-spangled Banner does not have God in it, at least not in the first verse which is what everyone sings anyway. Nobody sings second and third verses of national anthems.

Very slow Sunday in sports,I don't think anything really went on. Oh The BlueJays lost.

July 2, 2018 @ 6:08 AM

Cheryl

Yes, lots went on in sports. My Indians won. Franky Lindor hit another homer. Edwin Encarnacion hit another one. This is awesome. Mike Clevinger pitched a real gem. My Orioles also won. Two homers by Mark Trumbo, goody. My Diamondbacks lost though. As for LeBron, why does he need so much fricken money? I'm still going to like my Cavs. I can't be a Laker fan. I really can't. They're also in the same division as my Suns. That won't work. Habs and Coyotes will be in the finals, not the Leafs. I still say Indians and Diamondbacks to the World Series. World Series party will be the first Saturday after the World Series.

I'm not much of a baseball fan, but I saw there is day game today and thought about going. But after seeing the roof will be closed,
Twitter.com/IstheDomeOpen
I'll stay away. The thought of being inside that dome with its dull gray roof closed on a summer day is not entertaining. It looks like there is a 40% chance of rain, although it was closed the last two days because they said it was too hot.

I also haven't paid much attention to hockey for about the last 25 years. I got to the Woodbine Park tribute band thing just before 1pm when the second band was about to start, and some guy from Q107 walked onto the stage and said Tavares had signed with the Leafs, and they said it again before the next band. I left at about 4:45pm when the Led Zeppelin tribute band had finished, partly because there was an annoying meth-head (or whatever it is that can make someone hugely hyperactive) guy around me dressed in what looked a little like pyjamas, who couldn't stop yelling, dancing, jumping, and running around, which was really something for him to have kept going for as long as he did on a hot day.

July 2, 2018 @ 11:30 AM

Urooj Islam

It was nice to see some Canadian flags over the last few days instead of flags of random countries due to the World Cup that I couldn't identify.

Hope everyone is having a solid Canada day long weekend.

July 2, 2018 @ 12:23 PM

H.o.E.

Amid all the generic red Canada Dollarama/Walmart, Hockey Canada and Blue Jays clothing, yesterday I saw a Canada Rugby shirt and three people in Soccer Canada jerseys or shirts. In Hamilton just over three weeks ago at a Canada/Germany women's game, almost all of the sold-out (or very close to it) crowd was in red and most of them in actual Soccer Canada jerseys or shirts. I don't remember seeing that before. Not too many years ago, any international game at (the old) Varsity Stadium would have almost the entire crowd there for the other country.

July 2, 2018 @ 1:57 PM

Jason from Sudbury

Question: When they have the roof closed at the Dome, do they have the a/c on? Always wondered about that. But even with the a/c on, its probably still hot as fuck in there because of all of the people and body heat.

The whole "fear Toronto" thing is just typical of Toronto and it's narrow minded inward view of Canada. Toronto..unable to see beyond Hwy 7 and Hwy 10.

Try Surrey. 207 injured by guns in 3 years. An RCMP solve rate of like 10% because the general population won't speak up. Population 500,000. Or Try Winnipeg. Or Saskatoon. Or Regina. Or Edmonton. Any any number of prairie towns with crime rates that put Toronto to shame.

As is typical with the media they do a great job emphasizing the "bad" ignoring how rare it actually is. The media sells the spin because it sells...especially to the wealthy white folk who fled the city to the suburbs. It helps sell papers and reaffirms their fears. *yawn*.

Classic Ontario. Detroit has a gun problem. Surrey has a gun problem. Chicago has a gun problem. Toronto does not.

You're unstable and need help, but you won't find it here. Your years of polluting my blog are over. If you ever comment again, I will delete it without reading it. If you send me an email, I will delete it without reading it.

how to turn my inactive tablet on, and on that fateful day, I will make what will be the first of many
feeble attempts at logging on to the crappy Wi-Fi signal of one of the many dingy, crackhead-
heavy Parkdale coffee shops!! Until that actually happens, here is a list of 5 potential songs that
might make good background music for any upcoming battle(s) with your relentless nemesis(!!)

#1. "Two Tribes"-Frankie Goes to Hollywood
#2. "Armageddon"-Prism
#3. "You've Got Another Thing Coming"-Judas Priest

I genuinely think gun crime is going to be bad this summer, but I also believe it'll be men of colour being harassed and carded and wrongfully detained because of it :'( - Tory is already calling for police, extra back up all that stuff he assumes will help.

I don't feel any less safe, but it has crossed my mind that I could be the victim of a random occurence, just like many others have been. So everyone in general, stay safe.

@ bsmntdwllr73

Maybe its to compete with CP24? You can't tell me that Roger Petersen is making a lot less money than Kevin Frankish.

I have a couple theories as to why Roger Petersen was made co-host of BT. I always thought that Petersen was Gord Martineau's heir apparent but then Rogers decided to not have 1 sole anchor for their newscasts so there goes Petersen's promotion as essentially the station's main anchor.

Rogers has also taken great pride in Ginella Massa being the first woman in hijab to anchor a major Canadian newscast, I personally think she's a great anchor. Obviously I think Rogers wanted to make history by keeping Massa as an anchor.

So first Petersen was likely supposed to become the station's main anchor but that doesn't come to fruition and then Massa essentially takes over for him at 11pm. Where do you put him? They could have let him go as well but I'm sure he was promised for years that he'd essentially have a bigger role with the station and likely didn't look elsewhere knowing a bigger opportunity awaited him at City. Co-host of BT seems like the most logical place to put him.

July 4, 2018 @ 11:48 AM

bsmntdwllr73

@Aidan
Very good points on your end. A couple of years ago (late 2015) Roger Petersen
took part in a Live Eye from the Scotiabank movie theatre downtown (Star Wars:
Force Awakens preview screening) and I heard him express doubts about his
future role at CityTV. Obviously he's managed to hold on for that something
bigger until now!!

I somewhat wonder if moving Roger is an answer to CP24 recently adding George Lagogianes to their morning show? They are in competition, even if Kevin tried to downplay how much during Mike's podcast, and it would make sense since CP24 is currently higher rated than BT.

I just hope Roger makes it a fun show again and less about social justice and virtue signaling that is has been over the last few years. I'm not meaning get rid of it but enough with the alienating a chunk of your audience because you're trying to appease your twitter followers.
