Adam Wylde Quits KiSS 92.5

CHUM FM promoted the heck out of a 3pm announcement today, and that got everybody guessing what was up with the Bell Media station. Were they going to announce a third member of the morning show? Was newlywed Marilyn Denis announcing her departure? What about Roger Ashby, the last on-air person who was also on Toronto's airwaves in the 1960s?

That big announcement ended up being a "refresh". To quote the Bell Media press release, "Toronto’s iconic 104.5 CHUM FM radio station evolves to listeners in Toronto and across Canada to CHUM 104.5".

Here's the new branding.

chum

But Mike, your title is "Adam Wylde Quits KiSS 92.5". What does that have to do with CHUM's refresh?

Adam Wylde has indeed quit his gig at Rogers-owned KiSS 92.5. You might still hear him on the air for a day or two, but he's gone. In fact, he's already removed all references to KiSS from his social accounts.

There's likely a non-compete that will keep him off the air for a bit, similar to what happened when his former co-host Blake Carter left KiSS 92.5 for The Move. But when that non-compete is over, he could join his mom at Bell-owned CHUM 104.5.

Think of the story... Adam joins his mom and Roger Ashby on the morning show, then when Roger and Marilyn announce their retirement to much fanfare, Adam is there to carry the torch with a new co-host. It's pretty perfect.

Unless Adam ends up at Virgin 999 and ruins everything!

When I was in journalism school several years ago I interviewed Adam Wylde several years ago when he was a new DJ. At the time he didn't publicly disclose that Marilyn Denis was his mom. Of course, one of my professors was a CHUM host. Anyways, when I asked him he said 'no comment' and then ended the interview.

Big frigging deal.."Refresh" its like when radio stations call themselves "The new 92.9 the Grand" when they have been on air for over a year.

Regarding Marilyn Dennis son going to "Refresh..just goes to show who you know and how incestuous the broadcasting business can be.

Chris said it best. This is like Wendy's announcing the new "Bacon burger" and telling us how much better it is than the last one. It's CHUM treating their listeners like they're stupid morons and imaging they buy into it. But hey, this is a business that believes that if I walk by a store with a PPM meter on and it records me as listening to CHFI then I am clearly a listener.

As for the nepotism, well that's modern radio. The bigger question should be about those who benefit from nepotism & favouritsm but who..jump ship to other stations (that are lower powered, with lower ratings...). I'd love to say who, but I won't.

About a half hour ago I passed by the the MuchMusic/Chum compound on Queen Street
West and I was excited to see that their station vehicles are already plastered in new signage.
Man, that was fast!!

Ah, I remember the radio. Those were the days. I haven't listened to the radio since the early 2000s. If you don't own a car, it's a forgotten medium.

Maybe he’s replacing Kevin Frankish on BT. Kevin used to kid about Adam replacing him. Non-compete wouldn’t even be an issue as City is another Rogers outfit.

All I know for certain at this point is that Adam quit KiSS.

So you could be right, but if someone is taking another gig in the same company, usually the departure from the first gig is more elegant. This looks like someone quitting a gig to take another one with a different company.

Adam is the only guy that can out smarmy Frankie Flowers. Ugh....

Mediocre and not funny. Fits right in with CHUM's direction.

Maybe this station can change its name to NepotismFm if any part of this scenario turns out to
be true?!? Also, anyone else think that a street-influenced cover version of Paul Simon's "Mother
and Child Reunion" would make for a great theme song?

BIG DEAL. CHUM is one of the most recognizable radio brands in the world. In that sense - it's like "Tide" doing a refresh of their brand. (Tide is considered to be the most solid brand of any in any category. They own something crazy like 57% of the detergent market.)
I started working at 1050 CHUM in 1976 for a year as a master control operator then returned as an on-air host in 1984 on both CHUMs and was there until 2003.
For CHUM FM, this is only the 3rd logo refresh that I know of - and they always used the "branding statement" "Today's Best Music" through my time there until this refresh.
Those of us who are CHUM alumni have discussed it - and apparently this idea of dropping "FM" was discussed as early as 1977. So it's been a long time coming.

Bruce Marshall - I don't see it as a big deal per se, and just like the SkyDome, no one is going to easily stop calling them CHUM FM. But to each their own!

Man, this is a tough crowd on this board.
What ever happened to wishing someone luck in their new Endeavor??
All the best to Adam. And, all the best to chum.

Not Adam Wylde but Pasting Adam's Words

Hey - kind've a big day. Today's show was my last at KiSS 92.5 and Breakfast Television.

Firstly, thank you because - honestly - your support for he show has been absolutely off the charts. It always felt like we created the show together every day. Thanks for calling, thanks for texting, thanks for being my co-host every afternoon.

I want to thank KiSS management and staff in Toronto and our syndicated markets across the country. What a great team - the best I've ever been on. They are all genuinely as great in person as they seem on-air. I also have to say the same about everyone at Breakfast Television, who are just insanely fun and talented people. It has been an outstanding 5.5 years with Rogers Media.

June 27, 2018 @ 9:08 AM

David Sorry

Congrats to David Corey for assisting in CHUM's plunging numbers and remaining employed.

Adam when you say insanely funny does that mean the crew at BT should be committed?

5.5 years. You'll be the type of dad to say "my child is 29 months old". Good luck to your spouse.

I’m guessing the previous post is coming from someone who’s been out of the industry for years, and is bitter. Sorry for your bitterness.
