Finished binge watching Making of a Murderer. I'm not sure what to think of it all - what to believe. I cant decide if Steven/Brendan are guilty - or even if they had anything to do with it at all. Either way - both of them were screwed by the police. No shock there. I'm not very trusting of the police. My heart broke for Steven's parents.

As a one-time foreman for a jury, what struck me is that 12 of 12 jurors in both trials felt the accused was "guilty beyond a reasonable doubt".

For poor Brendan, that's laughable. The only evidence is that so-called confession coerced out of a "slow" kid.

At least with Steven there is physical evidence, although a great deal of doubt shrouding it all. Great documentary... made me quite angry.

I'm jealous of your jury duty - I have never been notified.
After watching I, of course, did some googling and I thought it was interesting that the documentary maker left out the fact that Steven had called the photographer three times that day, twice using star 67 to hide his phone number. She had also made a previous complaint to her boss that Steven had come to the door in a towel.
The whole situation was like a shit show - if something could go wrong it DID go wrong. For instance the lab tech mixing in her own DNA.
I am leaning towards Steven being innocent and Brendan - I'm not sure. I keep changing my mind though.

just as an aside - a question on the legal system in general. Aren't the prosecution and the judge sorta/kinda paid from the same purse making them sorta/kinda on the same team?

I heard one of Steven's lawyers talking about the star 67 calls, and he explained that after serving 18 years for a rape he didn't commit, Steven was understandably paranoid about his privacy. He always used star 67, and he wanted that specific photographer because she had been there before.

All very interesting....

As for judges, they're supposed to be impartial, we just have to hope they are.. and when they aren't, that the appeals process corrects the wrong. Unfortunately, as this doc shows, the system can really, really suck.

Happy New Year all! Had dinner with my cousin and his wife , in bed at 2.30am, I am not built for that time anymore, felt sluggish like a hangover, but without the booze to cause it.

Habs are back on track. They won yesterday so they will be back on track. My Coyotes play today so that's good. Curling regionals are on this weekend. This is the worst regionals there is. No Kean and no trainer. Kean will go to Challenge Round though, but my trainer isn't going. There is still a chance for Kean. They'll win Challenge round and go to the Provincials and Brier. Happy New Year.

Mike,

Maybe post that link as a separate entry. It's a pretty sparse Open Mike this week.

Hardly any comments now , except Cheryl daily sports forecast which I could probably write B4 she does as same old same old.

Junior Team lose & going home for 1st time in this tourney only win 1 game & lose 2 & 1 in overtime. At least Canada won Spengler Cup.

Happy New Year everyone

If Cheryl was the only one commenting on Open Mikes, I'd likely still keep them going.

My Coyotes lost. Makes me mad. They had a 3 to 2 lead in the third period, but Edmonton scores to tie the game and then win in a shootout. This really sucks. My Nets won, but my Suns lost. Well, my Ravens play their last game today in Cincinnati. I want them to win, but they won't make the playoffs. My Cardinals will make the playoffs though. Not sure if challenge round is next weekend or the weekend after, but it is some time. Kean will win challenge round and go to Provincials and win Provincials. Too bad my trainer isn't going to challenge round.

January 3, 2016 @ 7:19 AM

Monday Cheryl

Well my Habs and Coyotes did not play last night. My Ravens lost it sucks but my Cardinals won it's great my Cardinals will win everything.I still have no idea when the challenge round is and I still know my trainer is not going. He should go he has the best team and he would win.

Monday Cheryl: love it!

My Ravens and Cardinals both lost yesterday. It sucks. My Suns also lost. I am losing so much. I'm tired of losing. Anyway, my trainer isn't going to Challenge Round. The only hope my trainer has is to win Major League which is still on Tuesday nights. Kean is going to win Challenge Round and go to Provincials and the brier.

World Junior Championship: If Blackwood's our best U20 goalie, we definitely have a goaltending crisis.

World Jihadist Championship: Iran vs. Saudi Arabia.....geez, who do we cheer for? Hopefully both sides lose, if that's possible.

Well, my Coyotes won. That's great. Anyway, my Nets lost though. Habs will be rested and ready to win tonight. I got more junk mail yesterday. They are telling me to get a hearing test, take advantage of this opportunity. I am not doing it now. I don't feel I need to do it now. I know it's free, but it's painful to go to these appointments. Anyway, I don't know how they got my name and address, but they did. I hate getting junk mail of any kind. I really do. At least it wasn't from Rogers or Bell.

January 5, 2016 @ 9:15 AM

Cheryl

Habs lost again. It was close, but a loss. What's wrong with them? Why can't they win anymore? Well, they are back home tonight so that should turn it around winning at home. No junk mail today I hope. I don't know where these people get my address, but they get it from somewhere. Just quit sending me junk mail. Seems like most mail I actually get is junk mail.

January 6, 2016 @ 10:54 AM

How about those Habs?

January 6, 2016 @ 11:08 AM

Cheryl

Habs won last night. It's about time. My Nets lost. They go and lose to the Raptors. This really sucks. Anyway, at least my Habs are back on track. Now they will play like they know they can and win the cup.

Bill Carroll is leaving KFI probably returning to Canada, could be interesting for Toronto radio.

Good tip!

Here's Bill Carroll's farewell message to listeners of his KFI radio show: http://m.kfiam640.com/articles/local-news-465708/bill-carroll-says-farewell-after-six-14254294

He's moving "closer to home", but says that's not necessarily Toronto.
