Happy Friday! Not only is today the last day of school for my son, but it is the day my daughter is due to come out of the depths of the Peruvian amazon to the town of Iquitos where there is wifi. It has been a long 2 weeks without contact, cannot wait!

(Oh…and first!)

I miss having a last day of school.

Wow! You must be both excited and nervous.

@Lyle Lanley

Me too.

Yesterday was the last day of school for my kids. They're pretty damn excited. I miss that feeling, too.

That's a cool trip!

The Toronto Raptors selected University of Utah guard Delon Wright with the 20th overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft. The club also acquired a protected future first-round draft choice (originally belonging to the Los Angeles Clippers) and the draft rights to the 46th overall selection, UCLA guard Norman Powell, from the Milwaukee Bucks in exchange for guard Greivis Vasquez.

Awesome news! I hope she is happy, healthy, and had a great time!
My son is winding up Grade 10 today with his last exam this morning. I do recall the feeling and he can't wait. He has a car this year and a bit more freedom so that means a lot to him too. He drove his sister home last night (we had our granddaughter for the evening) and he is accepting the privilege/responsibility duo very well.

So who do the Leafs choose (read: ruin) in the draft? I'm leaning towards Marner but Strome and Hannafin would be good choices too. I understand this is a long process rather than a quick fix, and I agree this is the route they should take, but at 51 I do wonder if I'll ever see a highly competitive team again in my lifetime.

It is gorgeous out here on the Prairies. We had a looooong spring and a cool early summer but the heat has finally arrived. Yay!!!

I'm still working out on our treadmill (bought one in January) and for the first time in over a decade I am under 180 lbs! I was over 200 lbs three years ago and mentioned here that I was so disgusted I went on a @Toronto Mike style (modified) diet. I got the weight down to 185 but hovered and couldn't get it any lower. My little home mini-gym with tread and hand weights has been a blessing. And yes, I do it 4-5 times a week and there is no dust on any of the equipment. I am very pleased.

@Blind Dave

It looks like the Coyotes will pick Strome. The Leafs have him ranked #5, anyway.

I think the Leafs will take Marner, but I've felt that since we landed the fourth pick. It's possible they go with Hanafin, but Marner is more likely.

The Toronto Mike diet is awful simple, but guaranteed to work. It's all portion control. Stop eating junk food and instead of 4 slices of pizza, try 2. And don't drink your calories, water is your friend!

Congrats on the weight loss! The last time I was under 200lbs I was fresh out of high school,

We're playing @ Sgt. Pepper's in Aurora tonight. Is this the night I finally meet Argie in person? What do you say Argie? Come out for a beer? First one's on me.

Out of the last 4 units of media entertainment I've consumed, I couldn't get through 3, and only remained in 1 due to being held emotional hostage.

The Purge 2: I didn't mind the first one. The sequel began smart enough and built onto an already creepy premise, but it soon spiralled into a hot mess of Mad Max fused with a zombie film.

Jurassic World: I wrote a post on my blog about this. Ninety-eight percent of the big scenes were in the seventy-five trailers you could not unsee anywhere. Characters were 1 dimensional and I
actually said out loud "oh jesus come on!" during a particularly nauseating scene. See, we all grew up with this film so we're held hostage. Slap the word Jurassic on a movie about donkey piss and we'll go see it.

Kingsman: Secret Service - I like Colin Firth - he had the early Michael Caine thing going on, but this turned into The Matrix, and I hate the fucking Matrix.

True Detective, S2,Ep1: Tried hard to be cerebral but was not cerebral. Just confusing. Can't get past the guy from DodgeBall attempting dramatic acting.

On a related note, if you watch Diners, Drive Ins and Dives, and then watch You Gotta Eat Here, you'll realize the producers of the latter have raped and pillaged the producers of the former. The only difference is you have an obnoxious American frat boy with a bit of charm in one, and a nerdy but polite Canadian with a bit of charm in the other.

I'm way behind on movies. I haven't watched a movie since I caught up on all the films nominated for Oscars.

I'm waiting for the True Detective season to wrap before purging on them. I sure hope it improves.

Tomorrow I'm taking the kids to see the new Mythbusters exhibit at the Science Centre. We're also going to catch an IMAX film about humpback whales.

Don Cherry thinks we'll pick Hanafin.

My Orioles won yesterday afternoon. It was close though 8 to 6. Matt Wieters hit a two-run homer. Jimmy Paredes did not play. Great win, but I miss my Jimmy Paredes. I hope he will play tonight. My Diamondbacks lost though 6 to 4. That was no good. They have to turn it around.

Good on the Supreme Court of the United States for their ruling today that makes same-sex marriage legal in all 50 states.

Long overdue...

I'm going to have to bow down to the experts on the leafs staff but I can't help wonder why they rate Strome at 5? . I think a big centre is one of the most important players this team needs .

Now half way through posting this i went and looked at Marner again and noticed that he is listed as a C/RW which i somehow missed. If he can play centre maybe I'm a little more interested. And he does sound like he's got a good head on his shoulders in terms of hockey sense. I guess I'm looking at his size and wondering if he's big enough .

Last day yesterday for my daughter. It's not our week so i'm not sure how excited she was LOL But i do know she brought home a great report card that has consistently improved over the course of this year. We think she suffered from being in a split 3/4 class last year as a grade 4. Her teacher was too focused on the stupid standardized tests for grade 3 and let the grade 4's skate by a bit. The first report in the fall was quite the wakeup call. she worked her ass off though and finished up nicely. Grade 6 next year and then off to a grade 7-12 school . she want's to continue in the French school board so the year after next she will basically be in high school. I'm not certain my heart will handle the stress of worrying about teenage boys.

New wind-shield for my bike day for me! I managed to crack mine and I'm picking up a new one this afternoon. I'm a little excited as i decided to go with a different shape and I'm hopeful it will cut down the wind noise. Hopeful because even though I researched for far too long and asked a dozen questions on motorcycle forums i never did get a definitive answer. I'm also hopeful due to the cost. i thought I'd grab one off of eBay cheap but NOPE. Oh the price was less ,listing from $70-130. Retail at the store it was $130 (with 2 day delivery) BUT shipping was STUPID ,REALLY STUPID.
The cheapest of any of the listings I looked was around $25. And the expected delivery date was about 3 weeks. And of course that was the expensive listings over a $100. the cheaper listings were $35-60 and ONLY UPS which tags a Brokerage fee on top. In the end I've paid a few $ more with tax but i'll get it quick and support a local business that long term i need around.

@ Mike YES very good news! I hope those pasters threatening to burn themselves don't . that kind of fanaticism is frightening.

I like you, I really do. But sometimes you are so negative in your posts and I find myself skipping them, a la Cheryl. But don't mind me, carry on!

Most important draft that I can recall for Leafs. A chance to land some key building blocks with the 4th and 24th picks and potentially move a star player like Kessel for more picks/prospects. Burke just said 'I think Kessel moves today' based on what he's hearing. Super excited for the draft. Just wish it was TSN still doing it though.

I prefer the terms sarcastic and/or cynical. But as they say, If it bleeds, it leads.

I do know what you are saying, and I do acknowledge my sense of humour skews towards the dark side, but I have often posted positive things here and on my blog too, including the post where I was giving some great tips about where to hide a body. Isn't that nice of me? And, on another post with a positive title: "I Like This" , I added this pic I found on reddit

June 26, 2015 @ 3:01 PM

OMFG that is awesome! I know a few people who would pitch a fit over that.

Well, how about those Orioles. They won again although it was a squeaker. Jimmy Paredes was back in the lineup. He went 3 for 4, two doubles and a single and only one strike out. Jimmy Paredes is so good. He doesn't strike out a whole lot. He can hit and has lots of speed. JJ Hardy hit a home run as well so that's great. My Diamondbacks lost though. That was no good. Anyway, they're going to make left turns illegalgoing onto Jarvis from the Lakeshore. That's happening tomorrow and it will go on until August 18. Boy, I can't wait until all this Pan-am garbage is over. I really don't want it. I hope that my trainer can find a way to make it. Well, I'm prepared to do lots of complaining if he can't. Hopefully this is the only time there will be Pan-ams.

CNN reporter reports 'ISIS flag' at Pride parade. Turns out to be giant white drawings on black fabricv of sex toys. Lucy Pawle has since deleted her tweets.

June 27, 2015 @ 6:50 PM

My Orioles got rained out yesterday. They play a doubleheader split admissions, a day game and then a night game. I hope Jimmy Paredes is in both games. I wonder if the same players can play in two games or not. I like all the players, but Jimmy Paredes is my favourite and I want him in both games. My Diamondbacks lost last night. Not good at all. They better start winning soon. They're really losing lots. Well, I don't know why they are starting the Pan-Am garbage a couple weeks before the Pan-Ams start. I know one thing and that is I'm not getting tickets and I wouldn't get them even if they were free. Anyway, if my trainer has to make a left turn from the Lakeshore to Jarvis, he's screwed. Well, I'll be ready to write my complaining letters. I'm prepared to do it. There should have been a vote on this where the public could vote whether we wanted them or not. I would have voted no.

June 28, 2015 @ 7:23 AM

How do I find out if a specific Artist/ Group (or specific song/album) is being played on radio in the Toronto market?

I found a couple paid services for the industry, but no quick easy way for the everyman to find out.

June 28, 2015 @ 5:37 PM

@ Cheryl

Pan Am games & the Blue Jays rule. WE have to support our country Canada.
Take pride in being a Canadian.

June 28, 2015 @ 5:55 PM

Well, my Orioles are in first place. Yes, they are as they won both games of a doubleheader yesterday. They won 4 to 0 and 8 to 0. That's great. Yes, the same players can play in both games of a doubleheader. Jimmy Paredes was in both games. He did well in the first game, didn't strike or fly out. He walked twice, and he also had a two run homer and a double. He didn't do so well in the second game as he went 0 for 3. Anyway, I love my Orioles and especially Jimmy Paredes and they're in first. My Diamondbacks won as well yesterday. That's wonderful so it's good. Anyway, say what you want. I am not going to the Pan-Am games. They are going to mess up traffic most of the summer. As I said, if my trainer has to turn onto Jargis from the Lakeshore, he is screwed. I mean there are people who have to go places. Yes, if it gets out of hand, I will be complaining. I am prepared to do that.

Leafs - Sign Mike Richards now being terminated contract from LA. He's only 30 years old & sign him for "low ball" as he is Ont. boy.

June 29, 2015 @ 9:36 PM

My Orioles lost last night 8 to 1. That game really sucked bad. Bud Norris is not very good. I hope he will get better, but he is not. Anyway, Jimmy Paredes did not play last night. I don't know why. He was not hurt or anything. He didn't play. Anyway, my Diamondbacks did win last night so that was great. Anyway, one of the maintenance guys in my building told me traffic is really really bad and he thinks it will get a lot worse when the games are on. Anyway, I will see my trainer today. He emailed me and said he made it fine so that's good. I won't be writing any complaining letters yet, but I am prepared to do that and if I have to, I will and nobody is going to stop me. Just imagine if Pan-Ams were in the winter and you had snow to contend with. Thank goodness that isn't happening.

June 30, 2015 @ 9:58 AM

Happy Canada Day, Guys. My Orioles lost last night. That was not a good game. Pitching was bad. They lost 8 to 6. Gonzalez took the loss. Chris Davis got a couple two run homers though and Manny Machado got one as well. Anyway, Jimmy Paredes went 0 for 4. My favourite player got no hits. Also my Diamondbacks lost. That was no good so I didn't get any wins. Tomorrow I see my trainer one last time before he goes away. Hopefully he will see me when he gets back. I don't know how bad it will actually be when the games are on. Anyway, I just can't wait until the end of the summer when all this garbage is over.

July 1, 2015 @ 10:59 AM

Great Orioles win last night. My Jimmy Paredes struck out, then hit a homer, then got on on a fielder's choice and then got another hit. I don't know what a fielder's choice counts as but he got on anyway. I will say 3 for 4. JJ Hardy also hit a two run homer. My Diamondbacks lost though. Anyway, I love baseball. I am now liking it better than hockey. I get to know how each player does. I can in hockey as well, but it's not the same. Baseball is easier to follow now that I got to liking it, thanks to my trainer. Anyway, last day before my trainer goes away. He is gone until the 10th and then he will be back just in time for Pan-Ams. As I said, I will be writing letters if my trainer can't make it. I mean what if someone gets really ill and they need an ambulance and the ambulance can't get through and the person dies because they didn't get to the hospital in time because of all this garbage, that wouldn't be good. Anyway, what's more important, these stupid games or someone's health? Obviously it's someone's health. Anyway, if my trainer makes it and things are better than I think, then no letters will be written, but once he can't make it, it will be letters and I mean it and nobody can stop me.
