Olli Jokinen had more overtime points with the Leafs than Clarkson.

thoughts on what the leafs did the last three weeks?

overall I think Nonis did good, didn't give away anyone for nothing and made some room for the cap..

Draft day will another big process for Nonis, assuming he still GM.

Argie 2

'They' are responsible for everything. The BP Gulf of Mexico blowout, The Fukishima radiation leakage, everything. You didn't know it but 'they' created environmental cancers also. I just want to make this crystal clear. You can think about their prayer rugs fucking up your morning commute too.

March 3, 2015 @ 7:49 AM

Wow that Argie 2 seems really angry eh?

My two topics today are Blundell and Co and the two "guys" who supposedly built the infamous tunnel.

Blundell: I've given it a shot but its nowhere as entertaining or informative as Brady & Walker. Dean sounds board already as he knows there's only so much he can say. Trust me, this experiment wont last long.

Oh and I lost count as to how many times his sidekick George Rusic addresses "Dean" when he speaks (i.e. "well you know, Dean, I feel....").

The two tunnel "guys": Why isn't the Police giving us more info on this bizarre revelation? So two guys in their 20s with the professional knowledge to build a sophisticated tunnel for um, "personal reasons". Really? That's it? That's all there is to it? I'm sure there will be more news to come on this rather "personal" matter.

I was going to ask if anyone heard Dean Blundell's new show and what they thought.

One person I talked to said they lasted 10 minutes before bailing. He said it's pretty bad.

I'm curious what you all think.

March 3, 2015 @ 8:44 AM

Its like they brought in the over-night guys to do a prime time slot. Its not terrible - its just not good. Ya know?

As a guy who didn't enjoy the old Dean Blundell Show on 102.1, it's safe to assume this show isn't for me.

But I'm wondering what someone who enjoyed the old show thinks of the new one?

Will the Dean fans be okay with AM? With sports-heavy content? With an assumedly kinder and gentler Dean?

Wanted: A fan of the old Dean Blundell Show who has listened to some of the new Blundell and Co. on 590.

March 3, 2015 @ 8:52 AM

I listened on Monday at 5:30am for about 10 minutes and then again for another 10 minutes this morning. I agree with Argie (gasp!), his George and Ryan keep addressing Dean as Dean in every conversation. I gather they are overcompensating so people know who Dean is but c'mon - it's really brutal.

March 3, 2015 @ 9:04 AM

Admittedly, I was a fan of the Dean Blundell show from about 2007 to the end of 2010 (when Jason Barr got the boot). When the show was Dean, Jason, and Todd, it was often hilarious, and I've always argued that this was due to the chemistry that the three had. By himself, Dean is terribly unfunny (towards the end of his run on the Edge, the show was basically un-listenable).

One only has to look at Dean's Twitter feed to see the type of guy he is - a bitter, washed-up old man who hasn't been relevant for years. I agree with Argie - I don't see him lasting very long at the Fan 590.

On the flip side, it's awesome to see that Jason and Todd have settled into nice little careers.

I'm sitting down with Jason Barr on Friday for episode 113 of my podcast.

@Toronto Mike

Looking forward to it. Can we expect him to provide any insight into the reason why the Edge dropped him?

March 3, 2015 @ 9:27 AM

I'll definitely ask the question.

March 3, 2015 @ 9:38 AM

With Dean Blundell taking over mornings on 590, is there any chance of Todd Shapiro joining the TSN team? I think he did great filling in over the winter holidays there and he helped carry the Blundell show when they were on the edge. Any rumblings of him making the switch from Sirius back to terrestrial radio?

March 3, 2015 @ 10:00 AM

I don't listen and never will listen to Dean Blundell. My Nets won last night. That was the only good thing that happened. My Habs lost, got shut out. My Suns lost and the Raptors won. Kean also lost to awful Jacobs. I hate Jacobs and apparently they cheated in that game and that sucked. Now Kean is 2 and 2. No good. They better start winning again. Well, Menard did win last night, the second good thing. I need my money so I need to win this pool.

Without a doubt, he'd entertain the offer.

March 3, 2015 @ 10:02 AM

I had a troll using my username here last year during the provincial election. They didn't take too kindly to my criticism of Kathleen Wynne and the Ontario Liberal Party,

It might be the same person. Only the IP address would know for sure.

I have a feeling one of the Toronto newspapers will dig up (sorry) the identities of the tunnel people. Although they might have gone underground. (I meant that one)

I don’t know why the tunnel is such a big deal. It was never going to be used for something nefarious. The media reports made it seem like it could be a threat to the Pan-Am games but that’s ridiculous. Who would attack those games? Don’t you want to attack an event that people will be going to?

It's a silly tunnel. Now if they were crop circles....

I'm still surprised it's not illegal to dig a bunker like that. It was more than just a hole, it was a development on land the developers didn't own!

Weird story about the tunnel.
My mind goes a few different places.
Truly puzzling. On public land?
Who wouldn't imagine they'd be discovered?

also wtf:
Bill C 151 appears to criminalize dissent.
As I understand it, our laws as they stand
can sufficiently deal with a terrorist threat.

Conservative Prime Minister John Diefenbaker said:
"The reading of history proves that freedom always dies
when criticism ends."

There was no urgency to trade Phaneuf, Kessel or Lupul. We'll get more for them in the summer.

So,in January it had come to my attention that i was carrying a few too many pounds. At that time i decided that i would eat only healthy and no libations from the Toronto Maple Leafs first playoff game of the year until their last playoff game each year.
I figured it could do nothing but good for me .
Looks like by the year 2020 i will have gained 25 more pounds or be stiff.

For the record. Was not a tunnel.

March 3, 2015 @ 11:20 AM

I listened to Dean Blundell and Company for about 15 minutes today. It sounds juvenile to me.

Regarding the Leafs....I expect nothing both on the ice and in management making any moves and am never disappointed.

Tunnels go places. This was definitely a bunker.

March 3, 2015 @ 11:33 AM

Blundell & Co is ok. They've had a few funny moments. Some good chuckles over the tunnel/bunker guys and also about the Dylan vs @MapleLeafs on twitter. Doesn't feel that much like a sports show though.

This article is a 'hoot.'
V. Menon in the Toronto Star:

Yeah, we made that tunnel. And we did it for “personal reasons.”
The explanation is as breathtaking as the tunnel itself.

That phrase once had defined contexts. You voted for “personal reasons.” You quit your job for “personal reasons.” You did or did not believe in a higher power for “personal reasons.” You bleached your teeth, joined a gym, left your spouse and revved around town in a new Jaguar F-Type Coupe for “personal reasons.”

But until Monday, those two words were not seen as a suitable response to law enforcement when questioned about the existence of a secretive structure you made on land you did not own: “What’s that, officer? Oh, those beams of steel and barges? Yeah, I’m just building a bridge to the islands. You know, for personal reasons.”

“There was nothing nefarious, there was nothing criminal,” Const. Victor Kwong told the Star on Monday. “It was literally them doing it for a place to hang out.”

I really wasn't interested in the tunnel mystery, but when did the cops ever, ever accept an explanation consisting of "it's for personal use"?

March 3, 2015 @ 1:42 PM

I've listened to parts of the new Blundell show and it's completely different from the old show but we knew it would be. I'm not much of a sports fan so listening to non stop sports analysis is tiresome to me! He has to play it safe but I really don't think many Edge listeners will follow him because there's none of the sexual innuendo or Dean talking about how much he hates his ex-wife.
But I disagree that it will be cancelled anytime soon. They've invested a lot into promoting him (tv commercials) and probably expect low numbers at the beginning but he's very good at what he does and Rogers will mould him into a money maker.
I won't listen much longer because I'm bored with the format!

March 3, 2015 @ 4:43 PM

I'm a fan of Dean Blundell, haven't had a chance to listen yet.

On the topic of the fan, when Tim and Sid go head to head with Bobcat who would you rather watch/listen to?

A few things:

1. The kid and TSN have been sent letters re: the tweet.
2. We need a better explanation than "for personal reasons"
3. Dean and co. Are in serious trouble. Considering it was trade deadline and I couldn't listen for more than 5 minutes before turning the dial.
4. Good on Kessel. There is far too much media focus on the Leafs. When they're winning, losing, whatever. Needs to be scaled back.
5. Looking forward to hearing what Barr has to say.
6. Had a long drive on Sunday. Really missed SRS.

March 3, 2015 @ 6:46 PM

Listened to Blundell at 5:30AM yesterday for 15 minutes & turned it off & again today for another CHANCE & turned off after 10 minutes.

Does any of them really know anything about sports? Rusic does a bit but constantly defended Blundell.

Prediction as all of them will be gone (like Andrew Krystal years ago) within 3 months. A MAJOR MISTAKE by Rogers.

Problem is TSN 1050 is almost as bad with Mike Richards discussing chicks & party's & booze.

Such is life in Toronto Sports radio. CRAP.

March 3, 2015 @ 7:00 PM

Kean lost again. This sucks. They are now 2 and 3. Come on Kean start winning again. I need you to. Oh well, Menard won today so that's good.

March 3, 2015 @ 7:39 PM

Blind ell isn't bad really he's just blah at this point . Brady and walker are much better . They have chemistry and had it almost from minute 1 . I don't know if it's his support or if it's him but so far I'm listen to a lot more 820 in the car if I'm in the mood for talking

March 3, 2015 @ 9:28 PM

1) Dean Blundell: while it is still too early to judge, I did find myself going over to 1010 and 640 the last 2 mornings. I hope that it isn't the 2nd coming of Andrew Krystal as I don't rejoice when people fail, that was just plain ugly as I actually felt sorry for Andrew.

2) Leafs Suck: after almost 50 years of following the Leafs I have come to the conclusion that the team will not have success until the media backs off. Yes I know I am blaming the media but the type of crap that the team has to endure on a daily basis is just too much! Why would anyone want to come and play here is beyond me. The constant badgering, the innuendos, the stupid questions, the enormous pressure.....is just stupid. 2 sports stations on radio, 2 tv sports stations, 4 daily papers in addition to bloggers. All these people are trying to out scoop the other and get the story first when the rattle a player. The Leafs will not rebuild because the media will not let them.

3) Tire store: while I live in northern York Region now, I grew up in the Jane and Wilson area. I know there are nice people in that area, yes even Jane and Finch. In fact most if not all of the people are hard working and honest in Toronto and yes it was a feel good story.

@Handsome Rob

Let's say the two men who built the bunker and closeted homosexuals. Let's say the bunker was trysts, and they don't want this publicized.

If the cops learned this and believed this, wouldn't "personal reasons" be an appropriate response?

March 4, 2015 @ 9:38 AM

That's certainly a possibility but why not go to a motel? Why go to all of that trouble to build this thing? Bizarre as hell.

March 4, 2015 @ 9:42 AM

Well, my Coyotes lost last night and the Leafs won. It was not a good night and Kean lost so they are now 2 and 4 which is not good for my pool, but Menard is winning for me so maybe they will win and I'll get my money. I really really want Kean to win though. I don't know why they keep losing, but it really sucks. Baseball spring training started. My Orioles lost and boy did they ever 15 to 2. That sucked. They better start winning when the games actually count. Apparently spring training audio games are free. Then in April I will subscribe to game day audio. I hope it won't cost too much though. My trainer bought it for me last year, but he won't do it every year.

March 4, 2015 @ 10:11 AM

Hey Cheryl,

Please don't accuse a team of cheating if you don't know what the situation is or was. The Jacobs team was not accused of cheating, they were admonished for tapping the back of Matt Camm's legs, reminding him of getting up off the ice after his shot instead of sitting on it. I mixed that game, I watched all the angles we had in the truck and it was nothing.

Team Keane will not make the playoffs, however, they are having a lot of fun and enjoying the experience.

Menard might make them...

think it could be worded better If that were indeed the case. I'm going to start using that phrase now though! "Hey hon. Want to join me in he bedroom...... for personal reaons". I can see my wife rolling her eyes already. :)

March 4, 2015 @ 6:10 PM

i listened again to Blundell this morning & he kept saying having a phone interview with Russell from the BJays at 8:20AM.
He said Russell Wilson & then said another name & that's when I tuned out. 2 strikes now & then 3 XXX - you're OUT.

He didn't know Russell Martin (catcher for Jays) was his guest, until a few minutes before when Rusic corrected him for 2nd time.

Give it 1 month & Done Like Dinner - TERRIBLE

March 4, 2015 @ 8:52 PM

Toronto Mike Verified as the defacto Toronto Mike

I think they'll give Blundell much, much more time than that. He's not cheap, and they promoted him heavily... they'll give him time to deliver.

March 4, 2015 @ 8:56 PM

After the Andrew Krystal experiment, I am surprised they are trying this again. If I were TSN, I would bring in Landry and Hogan for the morning show. Hogan is already on TSN radio.

March 5, 2015 @ 6:10 AM

That is funny. I was thinking the same thing. TSN should take advantage of this opportunity. Their current morning show just doesn't cut it.

March 5, 2015 @ 9:15 AM

Well, Kean is now 2 and 6. That's terrible. I hope at least Menard makes the playoffs. If they don't, then I'm screwed. I don't get my money. Anyway, how could New Brunswick beat Kean. That was a shock. I thought they could at least beat New Brunswick. Anyway, my Orioles lost again. My Nets lost. Good thing my Suns won and Raptors lost. My Habs also lost.

March 5, 2015 @ 9:57 AM

Haha. He put the generator in another hole so there would be gas fumes. And was it Rosie DiManno of the Star (not sure if it was her or not) talk about 'the sophisticated hiding of the cable underneath soil.' Haha.
