Handsome Rob

Been waiting for a new podcast. Will be listening shortly on the drive home!

@ Mike

Just finished the podcast. I'm imagining Rick getting into his car and shaking his head - wondering how you got him to be so forthcoming. I gather he's a pretty private dude. Really enjoyed this one, Mike.

Also, listened to Jason Barr's podcast the other day. There's an unlikely radio guy! Low key and humble. Gracious, almost. I think we're so used to radio personalities being just that - larger than life personalities - and loud. Jason just seems like a guy who likes his hockey and like the rest of us, has to make a living somehow. He just happens to be on the radio.

Rick and I have an interesting relationship. It was great seeing him again.

As for Jason Barr, I wouldn't be surprised if he walked away from radio one day. I could see him moving the family to a small island and leaving public life behind.

Wasn't a RR&M listener (did hear them now and then), but surprising how aware I am of Rick Hodge.
Really interesting how many names overlap in all the radio podcasts, great bit about Maie P. I'd love to see one of those infographics that show all the connections between the people and places in radio.
Nothing about dating? I thought he dated or almost dated a close relation?

I called an audible at the line of scrimmage and decided not to ask the date question.

Btw, imho you did torpedo him

Nicely done Mike. I also wondered what happened to his Blog, but can see how the energy for it can be sucked out of you with a string of bad happenings that had taken place.
Can't blame him for ducking up north to get away from being recognized in public spaces, fans just thing you should be accessible at all times if your a public figure.

It feels he has found his place in St. Catharines, probably more appreciated there also.

Worst Leafs trades: Damphouse (sic?) for Kordic.

@Eekan Boo

It was Russ Courtnall for Kordic, and yes, that was a terrible trade.

Vinnie D landed is Grant Fuhr and Glenn Anderson, the start of the early 90's turn around.

Great episode Mike. I was out walking at lunch listening and when you two were talking about the worse Leaf trade, I almost yelled out loud COURTNALL FOR KORDIC!!!!!

Hey, Mike. Catching up on my Podcasts. Did Rick Hodge get you the .mp3 of the Sunday Funnies theme song?

He did not. :(

@Lorne/Toronto Mike

Sorry to revisit this so long after. I think the music was by David Sanborn in the Gord Johnson Days. I actually have it somewhere (and I never even realized it). What I would like to know is where they sourced the return back from break music - it's completely synthesized and plays for seven seconds maybe.

October 31, 2018 @ 4:26 PM

Jody Thornton

Actually - the music I'm referring to plays at 1:57 on this CHUM-FM aricheck

October 31, 2018 @ 4:28 PM

Can't help with naming the music from that ancient Chum-FM aircheck, but I can confirm that it was
indeed David Sanborn's studio recording of "Hideaway" (1980) that was used as the theme of
the Sunday Funnies for quite a long time.

November 2, 2018 @ 11:47 AM

Jody Thornton

Definitely that was it.

November 2, 2018 @ 12:16 PM

Jody Thornton

By the way, why was the link to the aircheck removed?

November 2, 2018 @ 12:17 PM

@Jody Thornton
Perhaps if the link had still been up, I would have been able to be of more assistance!!
Maybe that particular aircheck can be sourced elsewhere on the Interwebs?!?

November 2, 2018 @ 12:20 PM

Jody Thornton

That's OK - I found it again. Downloaded and kept it this time.

November 2, 2018 @ 12:22 PM

@Jody Thornton
Well, please do let us know if you figure out where that other piece of music originated from!
