=( My condolences

Cancer blows.
Remember all the memories.
Everyone that says it gets better with time is full of shit. I miss my mother every day. Cherish all the great times you had - keep him in your heart where all good people belong.

April 12, 2014 @ 11:19 PM

It never gets better - you're right. I don't know what to do with people who say it does. I echo all you wrote.

Your buddy Mike treasured you - and you him. That part is a priceless. Now his wife and small baby need love like never before.

Taking James and Michelle to visit yesterday was exactly the right thing to do. You, their mother and Monica are continuing to show them how to live, love and lose - as best as any of us could hope to.

Thanks for posting his story. It has been five months and a day since you first posted about Mike Kic, a short time in most of our lives.

My condolences Mike. Nothing challenges the human spirit & soul like facing what he did. When you're told your future, the first reaction is disbelief. It can't be me. What did I do? Then, as time passes, you decide you'll stand up and fight it. Unfortunately, you don't always win.

Your friend went down fighting Mike. He found a strength few people could even understand. My condolences to him, you and all that were close to him.

April 13, 2014 @ 12:29 AM

So sorry for your loss, Mike.

My condolences for your loss of friend and blessings to his wife and child.

Life, eh?

April 13, 2014 @ 1:23 AM

34. Not Fair.

I was going through Cancer treatment when my son was born in 2010. Having grown up without a Dad my biggest fear wasn't my pain or death, but my son not having me around to protect, guide and love him. Every so often I worry about the big C returning and stealing me away from my boy...

My condolences Mike. Do what you can to share your memories and love of your friend with his child as they grow. My thoughts are with MIke Kic and his young family.

April 13, 2014 @ 1:56 AM

So sad. There are no other words.

April 13, 2014 @ 11:13 AM

Mike, I am so sorry. Cancer is a big pile of crap.
Having been in his wifes' shoes 10 years ago, I can tell you it doesn't get better, it gets different. Life goes on, especially if you have children---even if they are adult children as mine were. Eventually you smile, you laugh, you get up every morning and go to work because you know that person would want you to go on (just as I would want if it had been me that had passed away). But, their face is never far, especially if something triggers a moment. Music, TV shows, a phrase or joke that one of the kids says can bring it all back like he was still in the room.
I agree with Tim---share your memories with his child. As the days go forward his wife will need folks to lean on---just let her know you are there---sometimes that is enough.
My thoughts are with you all.

Great that you made your goal for Ride For Cancer. It's really heartbreaking that Mike Kic wasn't here to see all what you have done. His memories will live forever with you & you must cherish that.

Go for $ 5000.00. You can try & do it for Mike Kic & family.

My thoughts are with the Kic family & Keep Strong.

Sorry to hear about your friend. I lost my brother to esophageal cancer in November, he was only 48 years old. The entire process was devastating to watch. A great man reduced to a shadow of himself. It was almost a blessing when he passed. Good to know that you were able to say goodbye, as was I. That disease sucks big. A sad time for all.

Celebrate Mike's life with me this afternoon at 2pm at Philthy McNasty's at Yonge and Eglinton.

This is immediately after his funeral and burial. Wear a jersey or shirt promoting a Toronto sports team. I'll be donning my Doug Gilmour #93 in honour of Kic.

Last weekend I went to Mike Engell's 40th birthday party. It never felt right that Mike Kic wasn't there.

I quit Raging Storm when Kic passed. I didn't want to play third base without my left fielder over my shoulder.

Take care, my friend.
