GWG = Great Western Garment or Great Wayne Gretzky?

GWG = Great Western Garment or Great Wayne Gretzky?Confession time...

When Wayne Gretzky was promoting Great Western Garment jeans in the early 80s, I thought GWG stood for Great Wayne Gretzky.

I believed this for quite some time, actually. This ad from '82 shared by Retrontario brought this memory roaring back.

The Great Western Garment Company was founded in Edmonton in 1911, was acquired by Levi Strauss in 1961 and was shuttered for good in 2004.

So then, Scrubbies were just another Levi's jeans brand? Damn.

Had the GWG jean jacket in the early 80's. Forgot about the pathetic pants with the elastic waist band in the 80's. Thanks for pulling this up Mike, reminds me of the era when i had a full head of hair.
