Why This Leafs Fan Is Rooting For Chicago

Stanley CupYou've no doubt heard that the Chicago Blackhawks haven't won the Stanley Cup since 1961. That's significant because it's the longest current drought in the NHL.

You've no doubt heard that the Toronto Maple Leafs have the 2nd longest current Stanley Cup drought in the NHL. My Leafs haven't won it all since 1967. If the Chicago Blackhawks beat the Philadelphia Flyers in these Stanley Cup finals, my Toronto Maple Leafs will be the answer to that old bar trivia favourite.

Maple Leaf haters, namely Habs fans without a rooting interest, are cheering for the Blackhawks for this very reason. They think it will hurt us to hold this streak of futility. They think it will crush our spirit and break our hearts. They think it will sting.

I'm a lifelong, loyal and devout fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs and I want the Chicago Blackhawks to win the Stanley Cup. I want my team to hold this record. I want it to feel all that much better when we finally do win it all and hoist Lord Stanley's mug.

Go Blackhawks Go!

As a Leaf fan, cheering for Philly, Ottawa and Montreal is a non-starter (unless either Philly or Ottawa is playing Montreal).

There is no debate here.

Hawks in 5.

Fredericton Steve

There was a time when I hated the Flyers with a passion however the new era flyers have won me over. With the exception of Dan Carcillo, of Course.

Toronto Mike Verified as the defacto Toronto Mike

I want the record! I want my team to having the longest current Stanley Cup drought in the NHL.

And I hate the Flyers.

Go Hawks Go!! I remember the night when Dick Duff scored the winning goal in 1962 against the Hawks as the Leafs won their first cup of the 60's. The Hawks were amazing back then - Bobby Hall, Stan Mikita, Pierre Pilote, Moose Vasko and one of my favorite goalies, Glen Hall who was known to regularly throw up before a game. So in honour of one of the original six, I'm rooting for Chicago. They've also still got one of the best looking uniforms in the league IMHO.

Loyal, hardcore fans who finally said 'enough!' and stopped going until the product and customer service improved (hmmm....). They're back in record #'s of course, yet their AHL team still draws 8,000 a night (double what the locals do). Pat Foley back behind the mic and games on WGN TV & radio the last 2 years - I get both at home. A real live organist, not MP3's from 1978 and they DON'T play "Zombie Nation". THE most classic jersey in pro sports. No Scott Hartnell. What's not to love? As there's an outside chance I may be there next Sunday, 'Hawks in 5 please.

Although, if they do win, I will no longer be able to say I played a couple of seasons with the son of the last 'Hawk captain(Eddie Litzenberger) to hoist the Cup.

What? You mean we DON'T have the longest Cup drought in the league? Beats me.

Couldn't agree more about the uniform comments...the best in sports. Also, how can you not pull for a team that introduces the team to Ted Nugent's Stranglehold?
