The NBA's Devastating Pill

NBA BasketballThe FBI is investigating Tim Donaghy for allegedly betting on games he officiated during the last two seasons. NBA commissioner David Stern is holding a press conference this morning and he'll hopefully tell us what they knew and when they knew it.

Refs intentionally influencing the outcome of games is a devastating pill to swallow. It's sport poison, for without integrity, sport is theatre.

Check out this footage of Tim Donaghy's final game, a round two playoff game between the Phoenix Suns and San Antonio Spurs.

Mike (Buffalo Boy)

My only fear after watching that is that it is not just the NBA. How many times over the years have we seen horribly officiated games in the NHL? Especially in the PLayoffs where the whistles will go away for a period or two and then all of a sudden on team gets a key power play with the score tied or something. This to me can open up a whole can of worms not just on the NBA but sports in General. And if you truly think about it, its not just the NBA and NHL it happens in Football and Baseball. It makes you start to doubt all of professional sports. The money is there and the money speaks loudly to anyone in the shoes of the officials. They have great power over the result of games. This could seriously put a big black eye on the NBA and all of sports...
