Alpha-Getti and Zoodles

foodHeinz bought Libby's about a decade ago, which means Heinz owns both the Alpha-Getti brand of canned pasta and Zoodles.

I used to work in a grocery store, and I used to do all the grocery shopping. At some point about five or six years ago, Taryn became the primary grocery shopper and she's been doing it all on her own ever since. I never see the inside of a grocery store anymore, and I'm not complaining one bit.

Today I found myself in a Hy & Zel's that's going out of business, and I saw how they market the Alpha-Getti and Zoodles. They're side by side and look nearly identical. I'm sure the only difference now is the shape of the pasta and the name. I had my camera with me so I took a pic.

Alpha-Getti & Zoodles!

I have an old Zoodles can from back in the day where the coconut tree is a quite graphic penis. does anyone remember when they were taken off the shelf? Now that's marketing!

That is so obviously a penis. Someone in the marketing department must have had a good time with that one!!

Now every time i eat zoodles i will do less sucking and slurping.

Good stuff - I'll post this as an entry unto itself.

Which Hy & Zel's? Is it the one on Islington or are there others?!

There are others, but it's the one on Islington by Norseman that's closing.

I think it's going to become a No Frills...

The real conspiracy here: what ever happened to Scari-Os?? Anyone who ate this pasta back in the day knew that Scari-Os had a distinct taste that was so good.

Holy Crap I just found this blog, The Alpha GHetti GObbler used to scare me when I was little. I used to have nightmares that the Alpha Ghetti gobbler was looking at me through my bedroom window!

Scarios and ufos were made at the time when heinz was competing with libby... So sadly when heinz overtook the brand it took away scarios. i cant remember if i liked them more or less but i think i remember them with rubbery noodles. i always did (and still do) like the denser noodles that you could find among the shapes. nowadays i prefer the store brand at freshco... Except for its saltiness.
