My dad phoned in to Hebscher's radio show one Friday night in January of 1984 during the trivia
segment. He thought he had an impossible to (quickly) answer baseball question from 1956
or so, and much to his chagrin, Hebsy answered it in mere seconds ( very pre-Internet, LOL!!).
Sadly, despite my so-called Eidetic memory, I can't seem to recall what that particular question was
from nearly 35 years ago!!

Public service announcements: That Gowan song sung ever so beautifully by Mr. Hebscher
was "Cosmetics", and Mike, it did indeed have a concept video heavily promoted on MuchMusic
in late 1985/early 1986. And, yes, the Faux-Styx have started playing "Mr. Robot" again live for
the first time in the nearly 20 Gowan era about a month ago. Truthfully, they shouldn't have
bothered, as it doesn't hold a candle to Dennis DeYoung's still-definitive modern-day live take.

I listened to Cosmetics and I do remember it. At that time, I was getting my videos from Toronto Rocks and Video Hits. I remember plenty of Criminal Mind and Strange Animal and less Cosmetics.

Has Mark ever discussed if he and Bubba O'Neil are on good terms. I cannot recall him ever talking about him on his appearances...1hr into this podcast and you guys are talking about CHCH but he wasn't brought up.

I've asked Hebsy about Bubba in the past, and when Bubba was on, I asked him about Hebsy. It seems to be all good there.

Here's the Bubba ep:

Well, "Cosmetics" was the fourth single/video, and it did come after the underwhelming "Guerrilla
Soldier" video filmed at the Kingswood Music Theatre (strangely enough, I never managed to see
a concert there!). And we were certainly spoiled in the mid-80s with an abundance of afterschool
music video programs. Those gosh-darned kids of today sure do have it easy with their 24-7 on
demand accessibility!! Ah, the days of waiting by the radio to tape a new favourite song on a cheap-
assed Woolco 60 minute tape or a video on a grainy VHS!!!

Ah yes, the days of making mixtapes and recording songs off of the radio. Recording off the radio was a pain in the ass too. You had to hope that the dj wouldn't talk over your song, be ready to hit record as soon as the song starts, was fun but I don't miss those days lol. Also, I could totally do without Gowan.

But he had that nice hair with that colouful streak!! And there was that Ominous Spiritus mascot
dude from those early videos!! I still have nightmares about that dude. In fact, I think that a bro
or a cousin of his might have made an appearance in a mid-period video from Our Lady Peace!!
P.S., the hard rocking combo Moonlight Desires from Hamilton perform a wicked guitar-heavy
version of that tune and many other 80s classics!! Toque (featuring Todd Kerns from Age of
Electric) are another act doing much the same thing.

Sorry, I got ahead of myself in my previous comment. Moonlight Desires are named after that
particular Gowan track, but their indie CD contains an awesome version of "A Criminal Mind."
They can be checked out on Bandcamp if you're at all interested.

Someone has to find out if that story about Marty York hiding in a stall in the Blue Jays washroom is true.

I saw Iron Maiden, B.Ö.C., Aerosmith, and Tony Carey (he had been in Blackmore's Rainbow for a while in the 1970s, before Blackmore replaced him with David Stone from Toronto) at the Kingswood Music Theatre. I think it was about 1983-84 (might be off by a year or two), during the first three or four years it was there, and I haven't been back since. I vaguely remember some years later buying a ticket to see Deep Purple there months ahead of when it was going to happen, only to check a week before the date to find out it had been quickly cancelled after the initial announcement, and I recall having to argue with the guy at the Ticketmaster in the Sunrise record store to get him to refund my money. Anyway, it was an outdoor amphitheatre, something like the one now at Ontario Place. Does the Kingswood Music Theatre even still exist?
Now that you made think of it, I kind of want to go Canada's Wonderland. I haven't been on a roller coaster since then, more than 30 years.

Tony Carey! Wow!! Those first two solo albums and the early Planet P albums were great!!
As for Kingswood, I think it is still used for religious group activities and other such festivities.
At least it was up to a couple of years ago. Haven't been to Canada's Wonderland since '95,
but last time I checked it was still operational in some capacity.

^ should have been "made me think of it".

and "want to go to".
I should try reading these things in 'preview' before I hit 'post'.

No worries! I make similar kinds of mistakes all the time, even after solemnly promising to
do a more thorough job of editing my posts beforehand!! Didn't even notice!! Always glad
when I encounter someone with similar musical tastes (to a degree), even if it is only in
the digital realm!! Now I find myself down a Tony Carey rabbit hole on Youtube. Good
way to pass an otherwise boring and uneventful Tuesday Afternoon (Moody Blues, Yes!!).

Hebsy is always a great spirited guest, going to subscribe to his podcast, as 30 minutes is easy to squeeze into my listening schedule.
