I knew Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" was heavily covered, but I had no idea how many artists have recorded the gem. This thorough list of Cohen songs covered by other artists reveals it's been covered 82 times. It's not even the most covered Cohen song. "Suzanne" has been done 146 times and "Bird on a Wire" 96 times.
It's a thorough list, but incomplete. It doesn't reference Gord Downie's version I wrote extensively about when I reviewed "Saint Ralph". Speaking of which, rarely a day goes by that I don't hear from someone who's scouring the web for information on how to secure a copy of Downie's "Hallelujah". I'm not alone, people all over the continent are watching 'Saint Ralph" and wanting to again hear that song. I now have agreements with dozens of people that if any of us comes across an MP3 of this song we're to alert the other.
I assure you, if I do stumble across a decent MP3 of Downie's "Hallelujah" I'll write about it here. In the mean time, welcome fellow fans referred by Google. I feel your pain.
