The Forgotten Soldier

The Forgotten Soldier

I just read an article from yesterday's Globe and Mail entitled "The Forgotten Soldier".  Feel free to have a glance yourself.

The article is about the life of 84 year old Alfred Finley.  In one of my D-Day entries, I shared a picture of Al and shared my memories of the man, a gentleman I used to chat with on a regular basis.

It's an extremely sad article.  He lives in a room that is less than 100 square feet and without running water. He cleans himself with a sponge and a basin. His toilet is a ceramic bucket.  All of this after surviving some of the great battles of the Second World War.

If this is how we as a society treat our heroes, what do we do with those who act cowardly?
