Malt Whiskey Tasting: Elixir, Ben Nevis and Glen Keith

Malt Whiskey Tasting: Elixir, Ben Nevis and Glen KeithI spent the last two days on a retreat of sorts with Chevrolet as they showed off their new Impala. I'll write about the Impala later, but right now I want to write about the malt whiskey tasting.

I'm not much of a drinker. I enjoy a bottle of Heineken (or two) during a hockey game, but that's about it. I don't even keep malt whiskey in the house, so when Chevrolet brought in Ed Patrick from the International Order of Companions of The Quatch, Canada's premier malt whisky society, I knew I was going to learn something new.

Ed's extremely passionate about malt whiskey, and held my hand through the tasting of three single malts: Elixir, Ben Nevis and Glen Keith.

By the third glass, my eyes were watering and my throat was burning. I have no idea how you acquire a taste for whiskey, but until I do, I'm sticking with my Heineken.

No insult intended Mike but what a waste of fine single malt, on you. I love single malt whisky. I love its warmth as it goes down your throat. I love the smokiness and the different flavours from different regions but it is definately not for everyone. Try it again, take your time and sip.

Toronto Mike Verified as the defacto Toronto Mike

I did exactly as instructed.

I looked.... I smelled.... I sipped.... then, after letting it swim around my tongue for a while, I swallowed.

But I agree, some fine single malt whisky was wasted on me. But it was fun hearing about them and trying them out.

Mike, a bigger waste would have been you playing Pebble Beach or Augusta National with your golf proficiency...

Actually, 56 is pretty good for someone who has only played twice and not at all in recent years.
