Zoodles Are Animal Noodles

rewindWhen that Alphagetti Gobbler commercial entered my mind, it was the first time I thought about that ad in about 25 years. An ad for a similar product, however, never really left my memory bank. Who could forget the Zoodles song?

Zoodles, like Alphagetti, was canned pasta that we kids loved. The Zoodles television commercials had a catchy jingle that's impossible to forget. Here are the lyrics.

Elephants, Lions, Zebras, Giraffes
Zoodles are animal noodles
Come on tell all your friends
Tell a whole bunch
I just had a hippopotomus for lunch
Have you ever gone hunting with a bowl and spoon?
Get hunting, with Libby's Zoodles!

As I recall, that song was sung by a narrator with the "I just had a hippopotamus for lunch" line being uttered by a kid chowing down on his delicious can of Libby's Zoodles.

In our house, Steve was the biggest canned pasta fan. It wouldn't surprise me to learn he's still going hunting with a bowl and spoon.

I sing that song often. Although I have always thought Zoodles to be a second to the great Alphagetti.

Lori, have you really forgotten the tune?

I would record myself singing it for you, but that might break the interweb.

I'll record Ryan singing it and share that!

There's an actual Zoodles commercial uploaded on to You Tube.
I even remember the controversy which surrounded the Zoodles label when some half-witt mother wrote to the company and complained that the palm trees ressembled a penis when the can was turned upside down.
Anyhow here's the lyrics to the song.

Have you ever gone hunting
with bowl and spoon
well you can with Libby's Zoodles

Elephants Lions Zebras Giraffes
Zoodles are animal noodles

Come on tell all your friends
tell a whole bunch....
"I just had a Hippopuatamus for lunch"

Well have you ever gone hunting with a bowl and spoon

get hunting with Libby's Zoodles

Zoo Zoo Zoo Zoo Zoodles

I have what I believe to be a Canadian tin. The label is red and has a Canada stamp under the content amount. As soon as I heard about the label issue on the radio I ran out and purchased the tin I have today. I was surprized when I noticed the art work on the elephant because there was no mention of that on the radio.

Hey if you remember this old school tune, that's fantabulous. I somehow thought of it the other day and I had a great laugh along with other people who also remembered it. It is a great way to discover peoples real ages. If you remember this commercial guaranteed you rock and what ever happened to that kid with the jungle hat a spoon? Who was this kid and what do you think he is doing now. That would be funny to find out.

The guy who says, "I just had a hippopotamus for lunch" is Justin (I'll leave out his last name for the sake of privacy). He was in my class back in grade school (and he has the same birthday as me).

I just tried to look him on on facebook and on google - no results.

I remember that one, but I want the one that Richard referenced:

If you've ever eaten an elephant,
Or chewed on a kanga-roodle,
If you've ever bitten a buffalo,
Well then you must've been eating Zoodles.

Zoodles, that's oodles with a zed,
Oodles with a zed spells Zoodles--right!
It's a zoo full of animals,
Made of noodles,
That's why Libby's calls them,
