Songs That Reference Canada

musicThere's an interesting discussion going on at Ask MetaFilter. Someone wanted to know "What pop songs mention Canada, or a place or city in Canada?" That question was custom made for me.

I piped in three times, suggesting tunes from The Tragically Hip, Rush, Neil Young, Guess Who, Barenaked Ladies, City and Colour and Maestro. Although someone beat me to it, I made sure to let this person know the two essential tracks are "Canadian Railroad Trilogy" by Gordon Lightfoot and "Northwest Passage" by Stan Rogers. They're both drenched in Canadiana.

When the discussion winds down I'll list my favourite songs that reference a place or city in Canada. Leave your favourites in the comments.

Mike, there is a song about Canada that I have been trying to track down for many years. It is from the folk-rock boom of the early 70's, though with the steel guitr opening the flavor is more country-rock. It was released in Us but never went anywhere. The lyrics go:

Chorus
Canada, Canada, you ever been there?
I've got more than one friend there.
Somewhere in the hills of North Ontario
There's a friend I know, friend I know.

The fist verse is pretty similar to the best I can remember.

Thank you for any help you can provide

One version of Huey Lewis' "Heart of Rock 'n' Roll" mentions Toronto and Montreal.

Falco's "Vienna Calling" mentions Toronto.

Dennis....I have also been trying to track down the album this song was on and have had zero luck. I had a copy in the early 70's that my sister got from a record producer friend. I believe the name of the band was Timber.
